Ray Rice is not a CEO. He's an employee. High money making employees get away with **** all the time. Just google "bank corruption"

Exactly. Look at Colts owner Jim Irsay for example. Dude is high as a kite with drugs (hard drugs, not pot) in his car with him....gets rehab and a slap on the wrist.

The black gladiators making you dat cheddar have some pot, and they get the shaft! Thats life as a white ceo. Its good to be an NFL owner.

You're probably right. It's sad state of affairs when violence against against women is more likely to have a suspension reduced than violating a drug policy, be it pot or PEDs, does.

Who am I kidding, this is the same guy who fined Brian Urlacher 100k for wearing a nonapproved sponsor hat during Super Bowl Media week.

    Another angle in this article:

    http://www.foxsports.com/college-fo...two-games-for-knocking-out-his-fiancee-072414

"And don't even get me started on the NFL's absurd drug-testing policy suspensions. If you smoke too much weed you can miss an entire NFL season. That's the equivalent of knocking out eight women. (Ten if your team advances deep in the playoffs). How in the world is it eight times as bad to smoke too much weed as it is to knock out a woman? Is there any person on earth who agrees with these disparate punishments? Keep in mind, weed is not even a performance enhancing substance, it makes you worse at the game. Here's what the NFL's drug policy should be -- use any drugs you want if they don't improve player performance. That's your risk, we don't care. But that's another column, this one is about stupidity, the NFL's in particular. Somehow we've reached the point where violent acts are much less severely punished than mean words or texts or tattoos or bad jokes about gay people during practices."

That's even worse. He gets a mere 2 game suspension after the NFL watches film of him publicly beating his wife in disgusting fashion. Meanwhile.....
    hmph, NFL player caught on film beating his wife- 2 week suspension;
normal employee caught talking on Facebook about hypothetically beating his wife- termination. :confused2:

Clean, what did Harbaugh say that made you lose respect for him?

What's gross about rice, besides the fact that he's a loser and a punk, and deserves some bad sh&$ to happen to him, is the way he physically handled his wife agpfter he knocked her out...like a dead dog..

The NFL suspended him but what about the ravens, If I'm the owner I Cut that mother or suspend him on top of the two

Ravens lead the league in arrests.

Getting an edge and committing a crime away from work. Who gives the punishment? That is an interesting slope to walk on. If I were involved in an altercation with my wife would I get fired? If I fudged data on a research project the resulting consequence would be evident. I realize the hypocrisy of the NFL. I guess if I were a player I sure would know my contract and exactly know what constitutes violations of it. A contract should be quite clear, and to save future confusion, reviewed by the player's association and the league office. And of course there is an appeal process. A team should spell out behavioral expectations in contract. A player should have little question in regard to what warrants action, either by the team, the league, or all of the above.

The issue is the application of punishment. And that too can be defined ahead, and save a lot time and heart ache. However, all of us would want an appeal process.

Ultimately I think you're right. I'm giving them WAY too much credit for that.

Dupree had a good point too that the punishment is for damaging the NFL brand. Evidently they don't feel knocking your fiancee out cold in an elevator damages the NFL brand more than taking PEDs.

They punish for what the evidence shows a player did. They don't have to care whether the evidence is enough to convict the player of a crime. In Rapistberger's case there's plenty of evidence of wrongdoing, just not enough evidence to lock him away in prison beyond a reasonable doubt for rape.

This is true. Evidence of wrongdoing at work often doesn't lead to any conviction, but it certainly leads to termination of job. However, conduct clauses are interesting. Behavior away from work could affect your job and not affect your freedom. Could affect your freedom, but not your job. Can get confusing.

Rice in a statement after the "incident":

"I am a role model and I take that responsibility seriously."

Guess he meant should be a role model. Or would like to be a role model. But let's face it, the term role model gets used far too much. Why should every young man with special physical conditions and an exeptional talent in sports fits the bill to be that? A real role model should be an example. I wouldn't like my sons to look up at someone like ... let's say Ray Rice.

He actually has been a great role model up to the point it hit his woman, as a Rutgers fan and season ticket holder I can tell you what happen that night in the casino was absolutely out of character for him, he never ever got in an ounce of trouble or brought negative publicity on to himself.

But he still should have gotten more than a two game suspension.

Except for special people, you can't change yourself and make yourself a role model. Most people's real personality & behavior pattern is formed by the time they hit puberty. You are either a good person or a moral person by that time, and if not, you can "fake" it for a while, but eventually your old true nature comes through in ugly ways.

People that are role models, are usually people that have been given an exceptional gift of being a leader, and people that can INSPIRE others. Most of the people that are society's versions of role models are not true role models, because this isn't a behavior that can be forced. Zach Thomas, Dan Marino and Jason Taylor were REAL role models.....people that make others better. Mike Pouncey, while a great individual player is not a role model.....I've seen nothing out of him that I should have any of you guys have your children or grandchildren emulate and want to be like.

I'm wondering if Goodell is going to start punishing players because of the team they play in. It's something to watch.....if that pattern develops it's a horrible sign for the league and just yet another reason to get a lot better, as the Dolphins are an anathema to Goodell and we seem to be a special target of his wrath.

I mean....it's out of character from what you've seen or heard. Most grown *** men don't ever hit a women. And the ones that do....do more than once. The fact it was on camera is why he was caught. And to be honest, he makes a lot of money.....the chick married him after being smashed the **** out....who knows how many times hes beat on her, and shes kept it hush hush....its def a normal personality for a lot of abused women to keep it quiet, or blame themselves.

Except that Roger Goodell has made a huge point about "protecting the shield" which includes the reputation of the league and its players. The constant mantra of commissioners is "conduct detrimental to the league" - and Rice fits that category. I think the comparison you make is ultimately too narrow in scope (in a narrow sense it's valid but ...). In the broader scope of the NFL culture and the product it wants to present (a significant long term element of that is "goodwill") - what Jordan did is less damaging to the league and its reputation than what Rice did, in my view. Especially given the fact that many fans and even reputable media (e.g., Dan Patrick) think use of PEDS is widespread in the NFL and it's only a slip up or stupidity that leads a player to get caught. That is not to condone what Jordan did (I think PEDS should be outlawed and players should be suspended when caught because they create pressure on all other players to use and as a result potentially cut their life short or hurt their family in the long run).

    The way he downplayed things:
Yeah, no big deal. Good lesson for kids. Knock your wife or GF the fvck out, get a slap on the wrist. Smoke weed, get punished much more severely. Domestic violence is not as bad as smoking weed. Wonderful lesson for kids. SMDH

Like I said before, if it were up to me, Rice would be sitting out the entire season.

I honestly think after letting Irsay go with a warning and the surely upcoming Jimmy Haslem stern lecture that Goodell is going to have to go soft on some of the player suspensions. Ray Rice should have been suspended for the season and basically had his career ended over this. I would like to see the video from inside the elevator, listening to some people on the radio that saw it they said it was even more damning than the video we've all seen. Amazing.
