Predictable. Called it as soon as our mystery man told them he might be able to get them in. The bull masks later on were a dead giveaway if you still hadn't figured it out. Obvious what was coming next. And it wasn't all that interesting, tbh. I also didn't like the way the film transitioned from "documentary" to a sort of found footage film. It was very dark and grainy as well. Cheap tatic to induce suspense. The Kennedy speech was the last interesting part in the film, IMO and a nice touch.

eh disagree. I thought the suspense was excellent. One of the best found footage films I've seen even with the predictable ending. When it's predictable and still leaves me thinking holy ****, that's a good movie. To each their own though.

Watched Man of Steel last night, and it was better than expected. I don't typically like Superman, but this was better done than the others, IMO. I'd give it a 5 out of 10.

Got around to watching Gangster Squad recently. Man, that could have been a really good movie. Considering the actors... But the writing was terrible.

well... it didn't have to be as good as the Untouchables.. which is an all time great... but again, given the cast, it should have been better. Some of it was almost comic book like.... the action scenes... as if that is supposed to carry the whole movie.

I just watched the Purge. I agree. It's a decent premise here, but just a lazy and weak effort. It's as if a couple stoners were like "dude, what if we could do whatever for like 3, no 6...no wait, 12 hours a year man? Killin n all. That'd be crazy riiiiight?"

Just an awful 80 minutes of nothing beyond the concept. A couple prissy frat boys chase a homeless dude into Ethan Hawke's house? That's all it took for the studio to green light that? And I shouldn't be shocked by our Deal or No Deal lovin society, eating up this nonsense...clamoring for a bland sequel.

I could write a more thoughtful 80 minute movie, just based on insurance reps, and the claims made the day following the Purge.

    Very disappointing.

lol What? I don't like Cage much at all but he's very good in that movie. Leto isn't that bad.

And how was the writing bad? Eamon Walker kills his well-written role as well.

Saw Lucy last night. It's alot crazier than I was expecting...and a lot campier too. Kind of like Snowpiercer in some ways. Entertaining though.

It has a Kill Bill/Tree of Life/Matrix vibe to it. Lucy herself is kind of an Ubermensch/Dr Manhattan type.

Saw this a few weeks back and pretty much felt the same way, although I'd ding it more than 3.5 points just for the final act.

Until that point I was loving it and then when it played out I was so disappointed. It took a great premise and some good execution and then just, I dunno, "Hollywood-ified" it.

Just saw Rush with Chris Hemsworth and directed by Ron Howard. Really good flick, I don't give a crap about Formula 1 racing but I was fully into this movie. It was enjoyable to watch a competent film with fleshed out characters after the garbage that was Transfomers 4. The scenes from Niki's POV in his first race after he comes back made me feel uneasy for him to be driving.

Korean film about a former big shot news anchor who uses a terrorist act to win back his old anchor job. Little twists and turns along the way ensue. Good film.

I am coincidentally watching this movie right now. Pretty ****ing creepy. Kubrickian so if you don't like Kubrick don't watch it. The pace is slow and deliberate, but ScarJo is still sexy in it even though she's essentially the villain.

    Captain America: Winter Soldier

7/10. Better than The Dark Knight they said... el oh el. 100% Ripped off TDK's plot and beats and didn't execute them nearly as well. Then again, all superhero sequels are doing the same exact thing. TDK has become the new Superman II in terms of ripping off a successful model. Still. it was a decent summer flick. Nothing more.

Just back from seeing Guardians of the Galaxy. Absolutely loved it.

It's a good mix of comedy and action, with a surprising amount of heart.

The core cast are good, with Chris Pratt turning in a top notch performance.

Perfect summer movie. Will eagerly be awaiting the inevitable sequel.

What? How did it rip off TDK's plot? Never once did they ask, "What does it mean to be a super hero?" or have anything to do with quitting being a super hero.

I don't see it at all. At least in my opinion, completely different movies.

I was really surprised how I was fighting back the tears in the first 10 minutes. What an interesting way to start off a fun action comedy.

You are why nicer to Lord of War than I am. I would give that movie 3 out of 10.

I really liked Edge of Tomorrow. Better movie than I thought it was going to be. I can see why you wouldn't like the ending, probably should have been shorter since its tone didn't fit with the rest of the movie.

Seriously? The plot outright steals the plot points/formula of the The Dark Knight. From the fake death of a main character in order to bring out the villain, destroying the ability to gather intelligence because it's too dangerous in the wrong hands, The villain similarities (outside of personality, obviously the Joker trumps Bucky), the famous truck flip, etc... Hell, they even nolanized the film to the point of stealing the inception fog horn  I could go on and on.

If you can't see how much the Winter Soldier was Nolanized from a formulaic standpoint, then you're either consciously or subconsciously ignoring it. That doesn't make it a bad film or anything... It's just doesn't do anything better than TDK did.

Fake death wasn't in order to bring out the villain. Joker and Bucky were completely different villains. Joker couldn't fight to save his life, but had a weird complicated plan without having a plan. Bucky was a puppet who was an amazing fighter. They both had hair.

TDK was not the first movie with a truck flip.

All films are stealing that stupid inception fog horn. I am getting sick of that damn inception fog horn.

The Winter Soldier was a spy thriller, the Dark Knight was a coming of age story.

Sorry dude, I still don't see it. I love the Dark Knight, I love the Winter Soldier. I don't see many similarities between the two.

It does do a few things better than the Dark Knight. The ending is a lot better than the Dark Knight. The ending to the Dark Knight is pretty weak. The plot makes a lot more sense in the Winter Solider. The Dark Knight is a movie that the more you think about it, the more it doesn't make any sense. Like how complicated Joker's plan was to break that dude out of prison. That is a lot of precision for an anarchist. The action is so much better. Nolan is not good at shooting action. There are zero scenes in any of the Nolan Batman films that is half as cool as the elevator scene. One more thing it does better, the most interesting person in the Winter Soldier is Captain America, who is the star of the show. The most interesting person in TDK is the Joker, and Two-Face has the most interesting story arc, which does tend to be a problem in Batman movies. Which they fixed in TDKR by making the bad guy so boring.
