Lower amount of Dolphins pre-season hype than normal?

Is it just me or does it seem like the Dolphins are garnering significantly less interest this year at the start of training camp? I wonder how this bodes for attendance and fan excitement to start the season. Anyone have a clue how ticket sales are doing? I hate going to JRS when it's half empty.

This is Philbin's make or break year and it does seem a large majority or betting break. And can you blame them? So far his two first years have been less than satisfying and really disappointing.

Yeah seeing "experts" rank as either worst or next to worst team is surprising, I didn't expect any of them to predict us to win the AFC East but I thought they at least realize were better than a Browns team who is going in with Hoyer and a candy snorting rookie.

Season Tix sales are up 17%, the real problem is we ended last yr terribly

Our main offensive weapon, Wallace was mismatched to our young Qb, if you have a Game Breaker you have to make it happen

I can agree with this, especially from a personal level.

I've NEVER had such little interest, seriously. I grew up in a time when Dolphins information was difficult to get, especially living in Vancouver. I'd wait at the newsstand on Friday's for Pro Football Weekly and The Sporting News. I'd cal the Miami Herald sports department and hope I got someone on the phone in the sports department who was in the mood to talk Dolphins for a few minutes (75% of the time I'd be rewarded).

Now, with every bit of information available for me at the clock of a mouse I....just don't care?

They have beaten me down. I hope I have a reason to care at some point. Until then, Bruins hockey it is.

If the team isn't playing in New York or Dallas, the media doesn't give much credence to teams who have been merely mediocre for as long as the Dolphins have been. Heck, a couple of years ago the Seahawks were never discussed by the national media and they really didn't get much notice nationwide until they appeared to be a legitimate Super Bowl contender.

That is just the way it is if your team isn't in a major media market or they have been irrelevant for so long that they are just expected to be irrelevant again this season.

If the Dolphins want positive comments from the national media, all they have to do is win on a regular basis. Based on their record over the past five years since Ross because the majority owner, I certainly understand why the mass media doesn't think very highly of the Miami Dolphin football team or the organization as a whole.

Even in Vegas, this team is seen as just another mediocre team in the NFL. Until that changes and the team starts going to the playoffs on a regular basis, the Dolphins will not get a lot of positive comments from the media types who report on the NFL.

Miami Heat and LeBron hangover. It snuck up on me this year. Normally I'm dying for football by the time training camp hits... but with all the bball stuff, it came out of no where. The fact that the HOF game is less than a week away is mind boggling to me...

Problem is 4-12 and 8-8 have one thing in common. No playoffs. You're just going through the motions of getting the season out of the way to start again next year. It's not a terribly exciting prospect. Given that 2014 is shaping up to be a continuation of 2013, given the same problems and issues exist, can you blame the fans for apathy? Hoping for the best, but I'm prepared for the worst. Whatever is coming is coming.

First off it's 100F outside and the first two practices were during the weekday. Many.... (I hope) people work.
Today's practice was for the prissy season ticket holders, so most of the ones that have Club Level tix were not present.
    Just my imo, lol.

I live and die Dolphins football; it's my most passionate sport in my life. Follow this team like no other. I am excited for the season, but I think I am pumping the brakes for getting too excited, and am more or less "waiting and seeing" how we'll do....cause I am tangled in all the traps from the last 5-10 years of "this is the year" talk...and am just going to let it ride this year with whatever happens, happens mind-set.

As it relates to the national perspective, the Dolphins are still "that team" coming off a "bullying scandal". How many articles, blogs, etc. have you read this year that started out, "Coming off a bullying scandal in 2013, the Miami Dolphins..."?

I was expecting more optimism, borderline giddyness, now that what's his name is no longer the GM. I heard a million times that he was the reason we weren't winning, now he's gone and people are looking around like "now what?".

Jeff Ireland's failed tenure lasted six years. No one expected his failures to be undone within one off-season. Failed drafts, inability to acquire and then retain talent, failure to predict roster shortcomings until after the fact, isn't something you come back from quickly. Unfortunately and worse yet, Ireland handed guaranteed money out to FA's like it was candy on Halloween night in 2013. And you're assuming his replacement was guaranteed to be successful. Which we all know isn't true. Especially after every qualified candidate turned us down.

So no, your attempt to make yourself seem smarter for having known Ireland was a great/good/average/qualified GM all along, while the rest of us were too blind to see the truth isn't working.

Thank you for so perfectly expressing what I feel too. I'm disappointed that it's come to this, but there are plenty of other things to get excited about. Maybe the Phins redeem themselves in my eyes somehow and I get excited again, but right now just finding myself less emotionally attached to this team than I've ever been.

After last year's 3-0 start...and subsequent self-implosion...it'll be tough getting excited for anything less than the same starting record or better.

Only game of the first 3 I'm worried about, right now, is Buffalo. I fully expect to see 6-2 at mid-season, 5-3 at the worst (some will say I'm bat-s*** crazy, IDC). 3 losses in the 2nd half. So I'm currently calling 11-5 or 10-6...9-7 bottom basement. If 10-6 and no playoffs, it would suck, but definitely the right direction.

Disclaimer: I fully expect them to be, but if the O-line isn't at least as good (&*!@%&*#%) or slightly better than last year's line, early on, I hold no responsibility for my claims :)

I'm not optimistic, but I wasn't very optimistic the last two years either. I also think getting New England week one is a disaster. They will probably be untouchable for about the first month and I fully expect them to run up the score on us.

The end of last season was disappointing for sure, but I have a hard time saying Philbin's first year was disappointing seeing we went into that season with a rookie QB and a poor receiving unit.

Lol clearly I'm not as smart as you are. I can't create strawmen or alternate realities devoid of fact on a whim the way you can. Please tell us how many years it's gonna take to produce a winner after Ireland royally screwed things up. Two, three, four seasons? Or will people be calling for Philbin and Hickey to be fired if they don't make the playoffs in 2014?

Myself and 8 of my friends have all bought season (multiple) tix for this season - the reason why ?!?!? Jeff Ireland was fired. That alone gave us all enough hope to once again become season tix

But you like to pretend to be, amirite? :shifty:

Yes... alternate realities. Devoid of facts.

It depends. Too many variables to determine the true measure of the aftershock that is Ireland's failed reign. Assuming that Ireland's successor(s) are going to be successful, simply because they're not Jeff Ireland is faulty. We do know of some of Philbin's disagreements with Ireland. We know that Philbin was right and Ireland was wrong. That's encouraging, but not definitive.

Probably. And those people may be right. Maybe they won't be. Philbin/Hickey may not have the time necessary to fix Ireland's mess, even if they're capable. And really, that's Ross's fault to being with. Ross bungled the whole situation by forcing Ireland and Philbin onto each other instead of hiring one and letting that person pick their own Coach/GM, and giving them both equal time to build a winner.

Now, we have a GM & Coach situation that is exactly the same as 2012, only the roles are reversed, with the embattled coach on the hotseat with a fresh new GM (that was given the job only because because everyone more qualified/desired declined it). People mocked Cleveland for hiring and firing Chud after one year. Really, we're no better off. Worse maybe because the waters are so muddied. What can I say? Miami is a cluster**** of an organization.

Of course, the excitement and optimism don't often last long once the games start.

NE doesn't concern me. Last year they got bailed out of one loss by the refs and we totally thrashed them in our second meeting...

Jest and Bills worry me far more because they seem to come out of nowhere, from zero to hero (only when they play against us, of course) and have their best games of the season while we have our worst.

NE should have Wilfork Mayo and Gronkowski in Week 1.

None of them played Week 16 last year and yet Tom Brady was still throwing passes into the end zone to win the game in the final seconds.

To not be concerned about NE is foolish.

Well, you admittedly aren't hardcore about other sports or teams. As a huge Heat fan... it kept me occupied this offseason. Even in past years, where we went to the Finals and/or won... after the Finals were over there was a sports lull and I was begging for football. This year, with the LeBron watch and important FA offseason for the team... it kept me occupied all the way until camp broke. I can't believe it's already here. It came out of no where...
