That's a bit of a shocker to me. At least, this early. I thought Jensen would push for the #3 job. There was obviously something there they did not like. Personality? Work ethic?

a little surprised he was cut so early, not even getting a chance to play in the preseason. Labato was worked out by the Dolphins predraft.

    made four other moves today...

Tony Hills had some potential back in the day.

**There is some video attached, but I did not have time to watch more than a minute. Also read he was recruited by D1 programs for basketball out of high school. Good athlete?**

Miami also waived/injured G Davonte Wallace and waived LB Derrell Johnson. In addition to signing Lobato, they have signed TE Brett Brackett (in camp with Miami as a rookie in 2011) and DE D'Aundre Reed who has spent time with Minnesota, San Francisco and Jacksonville.

Per Omar on Twitter and Press Release on team website.

According to D'Aundre Reed's Wiki page he was with the LA Kiss Arena League Team...wonder if he'll be on that new show on AMC?

I really have no clue why we even had interest in that stiff.

Seems so early. Would've liked to see him against some live preseason bullets. Didn't they go after him fairly hard as a UDFA?

He was a priority UDFA of Hickey, didn't they give him a pretty high signing bonus for a UDFA? I think that got a lot of fans intrigued. Pity that it's not worked out and we'll not even get a chance to see him in pre-season, but it shouldn't be too surprising considering he was a UDFA and from a lower level college team.

He didnt impress in college eiter until they gave him a chance to start. Some players are like that .Better game players than practice players. This is the NFL and there is no time to take a chance at his possible potential.

Probably a mistake to cut the cord on him so quickly.

If they need someone to chase Tannehill and light a bit of a fire why not give Tebow 2.0 a chance - if a scout confirms the reported improvement and quality of his throwing skills? Surely he's be available for a low contract, plus he'd be good for the new and improved, 'Stronger Together', no bullies, Phins.

You got to wonder is there was something OFF the field that perpetuated this cut - unless he that much of a disaster as QB

Seriously bad move IMO. You were fortunate enough to be able to sign the," winningest," QB in college football the last 4 years and you don't even give him a real chance.

There must be something about this that hasn't been divulged.

The guy has elite character, elite leadership abilities, was an academic award winner, and was known to work on his game year round.

My wild guess; he ends up in Tampa Bay competing for the #3 with Kafka.

    Lovie loves guys like this.

One of the down sides to this is that the Dolphins probably can't get away with rostering only two quarterbacks this season now.

Pat Devlin is ineligible for the practice squad and this Lobato dude only arrives now a week into training camp so I doubt you can be satisfied that he'll know the offense well enough to function as the third quarterback from the practice squad.

With Labato signed so early I don't see much difference in the odds of him (vs. Jensen) being our emergency practice squad QB. I'm not saying that b/c I'm a believer in Labato. I know nothing about him. But assuming that they like Labato about as much as they liked Jensen and to whatever extent they believed that Jensen could be their practice squad QB, then I don't see the odds of potentially rostering two QBs having changed much. Maybe they were low to begin with (who knows?), but whatever they were, they probably haven't changed much.

Brock Jensen has had the Miami playbook in hand for 3 months. Seth Lobato has had the Miami playbook in hand for a day.

Yeah I think there's a difference there. They took a stab on a UDFA quarterback they liked, for whatever reason they felt like that didn't work out, and as a result they probably can't afford to try and get away with rostering only two quarterbacks.

Tried using old google stuff to dig up possible rumors or anything to hint at what could have led to any off-the-field reasons for release. Didn't find anything.

I did find that the Packers were very interested in Brock. Brought him in for a workout in April. Packers scout even told him he'd done a great job and they'd be in touch. And apparently Brock, who is from Wisconsin, is a Packers fan. He even went to a Packers game where Aaron Rogers signed an autograph for him last season saying "see you in the NFL".

But as far as any clues why he would have been released so early and abruptly, I got nada.

It's also pretty clear he is a man with a very high degree of Christian faith. Which seems to be an increasing theme with Dolphins stuff (Tannehill... Hickey... Lazor... Jensen).

I remember when he was signed, there were several individuals on here who stated that his signing would elevate Delvin to the backup QB position, Jensen would take over as the third string QB, and Moore would be cut or traded.

I never thought Jensen would be anything but another arm in training camp and I expected he wouldn't make it past a few exhibition games before he was cut. I guess with the Dolphins installing a new offense this year, Philbin decided that the top three QB's in camp need all the work and that Jensen wasn't going to beat out any of them for a spot on the roster, so they might as well just let him go sooner than later.

There was a reason Jensen wasn't drafted by any team in the NFL. No one thought he had what it takes to succeed in the NFL. It only took the Dolphins a few practices in training camp to come to that same conclusion. I wish him only the best in next profession, but I don't see that profession being as an NFL QB.

Had a feeling Gerald Ford would get released. Wasn't much of a president either.
Just imagine putting up with him for 4 years, sheesh...

Watching the video I got the impression almost all the passing plays were rollouts to the right side. Nonetheless Labato looked very calm and effectiv while throwing on the run. As ckparrothead argued it's late for an UDFA QB to join the team. But lets see and hope (as always) - maybe there is something special about this kid.
