I posted this back on May 13th.... My early prediction of the 53 man roster/depth chart: QB - Tannehill, Moore, Devlin RB - Moreno, Miller, Gillislee, Williams WR - Wallace, Hartline, Landry, Gibson, Matthews, Williams TE - Clay, Sims, Lynch LT - Albert, Garner LG - Turner, Brenner C - Pouncey, Larsen RG - Smith, Thomas RT - James, Fox DE - Wake, Vernon, Jordan, Shelby DT - Starks, Odrick, Mitchell SLB - Wheeler, Tripp MLB - Misi, Trusnik WLB - Ellerbe, Jenkins CB - Grimes, Finnegan, Taylor, Davis, Aikens FS - Delmas, D. Jones, Kovacs SS - R. Jones, Wilson, Thomas K - Sturgis P - Fields LS - Denney Nothing has changed my opinion so far, except Fede will take Damien Williams spot. We don't need 4 RBs and Fede is beasting. Colledge will have to be added too.
The problem with this is most teams that keep only two quarterbacks manage to have a third on the practice squad that knows the offense and that they're actually fairly comfortable with. Miami has Pat Devlin but he is ineligible for the practice squad. They just fired the guy they had targeted as a UDFA and now they've switched gears and signed some other dude a week into training camp. Circumstances dictate whether that would be a good idea or not, and it's probably just not a good option for Miami because of their circumstances.
Caught the Sportscenter segment on the Dolphins Training camp. It was after 2 separate segments on the jets first talking s**t about how good they are and Geno's progression, then a segment on Decker and their receivers. The Fins segment was opened with the host talking about last season's bullying BS and the disappointing finish, then James Walker talking to a rambling Mike Wallace who proclaimed the Fins a playoff team, then how much fun he's having this season. When asked about Tannehill, he rambled about Ryan just needing to keep on doing what he's doing. Walker concluded the segment hyping Wallace for being the last to leave the field after practices. Silly me, expecting something more substantial from the segment concerning our OLine or rookies or offense...
I rather keep more defensive linemen than a 6th receiver. You can NEVER have too many defensive linemen.
Agreed. The guys in the trenches are constantly making physical contact, increasing the likelihood of injuries. We're also in the age of a passing dominant NFL era where rotating guys in and out is of the utmost importance. In addition, having a talented defensive line gives the team versatility schematically. Look no further than that speed package. ours could rival the NYG nascar package a few years back. The one that destroyed a 19-0 season. I'm really hoping Anthony Johnson has a great camp and makes the team. The guy has so much potential be a difference maker in the future.
- Receiver Mike Wallace continues to ignore the critics who are predicting a rough season for the Dolphins. “To hell with them,” Wallace said. “They’re not out here in this heat with us.” More rambling by Mike Wallace. LOL he complains about the heat as a retort to critics predicting a bad season. I'm not expecting much.
I think there is a good chance of it. Barring injury, the first 4 spots seem set, and IMO, Binns is most likely the 5th. If Damian Williams can show something in the return game, then Matthews could be the odd man out. Unfortunately, because I like him. The most likely PS WR is Matt Hazel or possibly Rantavious Wooten.
A few years ago, the teams stopped putting first initials with any identical last names. So it won't be an issue when it comes to uniforms.
Dion Jordan won't count for the first 4 games. That is what could open a spot for Fede as the 4th DE, then we shall see what shakes out by the time Jordan can come back. I expect the position numbers to break down something like this: QB-3 RB-4 TE/H-Back/FB- 4 WR - 5 OL - 9 25 offense DL - 8 or 9 LB - 7 DB - 10 or 9 25 defense
You only usually have 7 OL active on game day, so 10 on the roster means 3 will be inactive, and limited flexibility when deciding whom to dress or not dress. Seems to me like 9 OL on the 53 is the most common number, with 2 more on the PS.
That's for sure...Espn is actually better imo.. I like what Espn is doing today with the world champs, complete coverage of a practice with Gruden, Woodson Mayne, Clayton providing commentary for a strait hour, no Interruption. It's very cool, and I believe is a trend that shoud continue. If I was rich and powerful I would start looking Into maybe having conference tv networks with 24 hour coverage..I think you can literally make tons of money filming camps with instruction, offseason front office workings, (draft, combine, free agency) and players training for their craft and other endeavors.. Just a more Inside approach to everything franchise related to the future..the NFL is to big for one official network providing a surface level narrative, there's too many inside stories and happenings..
This is brilliant by Espn even though it's just practice. Their showing one on ones with no sound, just that of the players and coaches interacting. The future is now..start the conference network revolution.
What would stop opposing teams from tuning in? I think you'd have to have some limitations... like no meeting rooms. And limiting field stuff to postional and one on one drills, not team scrimmages etc. Even then, a guy like Belichick doesn't want you seeing what he sees daily in terms of each of his own players strengths and weaknesses.
I agree with some limitations in the meeting rooms, but there isnt much to pick up by watching, if your trying to hide something then I'm sure they would object, its why I mention the future, I think the game overall should go in this direction, the thirst for the nfl is not just for the normal nfl fan, it's folks like us who are even more thirsty and are willing to tune in.. Times are changing, I think blasting the nation with average superficial coverage of their favorite teams need to go away, time for the coverage to evolve to fans like us.
LB/DE Chris McCain and DE Terrence Fede are confirming what some of us saw on those youtube videos back in May. They've got McCain working at backer, nickel and doing some pass rush stuff. Fede has been consistently good apparently. Each player will make the second half of these preseason games interesting to watch. This team really needs someone like McCain at the LB spot to flourish.
Abramson... #Dolphins players Charles Clay, Philip Wheeler and Cam Wake showing off the team's new "credo" shirt http://t.co/XUOlCwKxvG
So Dallas Thomas demoted to 2nd team RT. Billy Turner promoted to first team RG. Nate Garner promoted to starting C... Shelley Smith and his poor snaps now on 2nd team line at C. Last play of practice was a fumbled snap from Smith. I think the experiment of him at C is over. Expect Satele to get a look shortly.
Dreads Mcdoucher Jordan Tripp with a nice stop of Damien Williams' outside run. He's playing faster finally.
Wouldn't think of any of this as demotion or promotion. Think of it as rotation. They weren't going to go all of training camp and not see what Billy Turner looks like blocking with the 1's. Same with Nate Garner at center. REALLY jumping the gun declaring the experiment of Shelley Smith at center being "over".
Andrew Abramson @AbramsonPBP · 1m · Philbin on Ellerbe/Wheeler: I like what they're doing. Wheeler has really improved, very good offseason program, solid here so far.
Andrew Abramson @AbramsonPBP · 41s · Philbin: Randy Starks is practicing better than I've seen him practice since I've been here. Earl Mitchell is a nice addition. Miami Dolphins @MiamiDolphins · 29s · Coach Philbin on Delmas: He shows up quickly and plays fast. Chris Perkins @chrisperk · 57s · Philbin said "believe it or not" some players thought he was a little stiff in the past. Then he smiled.
