We already went over that so not getting into it again. But hey if the Rays still have issues with it and want to throw at Ortiz again that's fine, its not going to solve anything and will just put one of their players at risk. Like I said they seem to be the only team bothered by it. I just don't see what the big deal is, especially when their own players have no problems showing up other teams too. Perhaps its little brother syndrome like FinYank says.
That's actually pretty good/quick for him. The Rays' issue was with Ortiz this time was the bat flip though not how quick he got around the bases. It's always something with them, they sure are a chatty bunch. Yeah I get the feeling Lester is a goner and won't be resigned in the offseason either.
And it actually was the bat flip that got Archer mad. So just so we have things straight, Price doesn't like Ortiz watching his HRs and Archer doesn't like Ortiz flipping his bat. Maybe next series Cobb, Odorizzi or Hellickson will complain about how long it takes Ortiz to get around the bases.
http://espn.go.com/boston/mlb/story...-rays-continue-war-words-david-ortiz-home-run I finally got around to watching the video of the HR, besides from the bat flip I'm not really sure what the Rays beef is as I didn't really see anything Ortiz did differently there. I just think it's them complaining because the HR cost them the game and they lost.
Not the headline, this quote from the article: Either way, the Rays need to grow thicker skin. The showboating, whether it's from Ortiz, themselves or some other player on some other team, isn't going away. They need to stop obsessing about what Ortiz does/doesn't do and worry more about getting him out because that's the only way it's going to stop.
Chris Archer confirmed it himself, it was the bat flip that mad him angry: http://deadspin.com/chris-archer-continues-to-be-annoying-and-hypocritical-1612625628 Again, hopefully for the last time but I somehow doubt it, the Rays really need to get over this stuff.
Lol just give it up. Ortiz thinks he's bigger then the game. Archer said something about the bat flip in regards to the situation. The rays say something because we are the only one that has the balls. Ortiz is a joke.
Can we agree that it's time for the Rays to just let it go? Ortiz has been doing this for over 10 years now, he's not going to change. If the Rays don't like it, they should just figure out a way to get him out because that's the only way he's not going to showboat or think "he's bigger than the game"? The whole situation is just beyond silly. The Rays should be one of the last teams to be the moral and ethic police of the MLB.
Agreed. If a team really has an issue with a player and want to send him a message by all means go for it. Not something I really agree with though. Regarding the specific Price/Ortiz thing, the only issue I had with it is that Price went out of his way to call Ortiz the day after Game 2 to apologize for his comments and say they were cool with each other. That's kind of BS he would apologize and then throw at him, it makes him look two faced. But whatever we talked about it already. I wonder if the Rays will throw at Ortiz again. Personally I think they would be foolish to do it because it could only lead to something bad happening to their own team. Would having Longoria get thrown at and possibly getting hurt or another player getting hurt in a brawl really be worth it? The Rays sent a message to Ortiz and in their eyes he apparently is still doing it so it's not going to change anything. Time for them to just deal with it and move on.
My gut tells me this, the dreamer in me says they have a deal worked out and Lester wants to really help the team.
Seems there are some things going on behind the scenes i doubt he would come back however massive contracts seem to change peoples minds!
He isn't taking his scheduled start tonight, Workman is pitching in his place. At this point I'd be shocked if he was still with the team on Friday. He says he would come back if he was traded but like you said money, as always, is the biggest factor. If the Sox have the best offer he'll be back. If they don't he won't. I get the feeling the Sox simply don't want to go 6 or 7 years on him.
That being said why any GM would give up the boatload of top notch picks for Lester after he said ALREADY he would go back to the Sox after the season is beyond me. At that point go get Price, he is younger and you have him for one more year. Samething for Hamels......
Agreed but the Rays would want an even bigger package for Price and they're less likely to move him now since they are seemingly back in the playoff race. As far as Hamels, it's because of RAJ and the Phillies stubborness to sell.
I'm pretty sure if you were a GM your team would be so far out of the playoff race you wouldn't even have to bother talking to Cherington about Lester in the first place.
Ok I hope Cherington can play the Dodgers off the Cards and get a nice haul for Lester. Time to pay up Ned.
I actually think he'll get a pretty good haul for Lester because of Lester's post season numbers. I still stand by my guess of Lester for Ethier, Seager and Peterson.
Never won a ring for all the cunning and stats and smartness he has.....he has proven that his method makes a good team so far, not a championship one though..... FWIW I really do hope he wins one, he deserves it....
The playoffs are a crapshoot, only the Moneyball haters point to his lack of championships. His team always had a low payroll and limited resources yet he continues to field good teams. Much respect for him and the A's (and the Rays too for that matter) for being able to even reach the playoffs. I hope he wins one too. I've been rooting hard for the A's the past few years and this year will be no different. I really wonder what would have happened to both the Red Sox and A's if he decided to stay on as the Sox GM before the 2003 season.
I am not Moneyball hater, it is a fine system I am on the level with him where the draft is king and development is too, at some point you need some valids in there too, something I think they tried to get with the Cuban but it hasn't worked yet...
Oh I wasn't saying you were a Moneyball hater, more talking about people and the media that bash him because of that book but obviously never read it. The problem is the A's simply don't have the money to sign big time FAs so they have to use their limited funds on undervalued guys (Coco Crisp) or guys coming off of injuries (Brandon McCarthy, Barloto Colon) and hope for the best. I do love how Beane has no problems trading away top prospects though. It seems like 95% of baseball GMs are scared to do it yet Beane has no issue if it makes the MLB team better. Perhaps that's the new Moneyball?
Probably because they don't have anything of value in their already weak farm system after the Huston Street trade.
Doubront to the Cubs for PTBNL. Also Lester possibly to the Orioles, word is the two teams are close.
