Brett Favre is a great QB .... as a Packer! I wouldn't want Favre purely for the same selfish reason that I wanted Dan to retire/forced into retirement than see him in another teams jersey

to be honest, if henne is our future, then hes not ready just yet. i rather have him sit his first year and what better teacher than favre? i would not mind favre coming to miami to be honest. Depends on how much he wants and the contract.

in all fairness to Favre, he hasnt missed a game in about 250 starts, if we did sign him, at least we know we'd be getting a healthy guy who can finish a 16 game season... (When was the last time we had that? 2001)

PS...This is not a "for nor against" Favre post

Tampa Bay is the best fit IMO.

Even though Gruden's offense is unnecessarily complicated, it's still a WCO. And that's all Favre's ever played in. Not to say he couldn't excel in another system. But after 17 years, it's not the easiest thing to do. Especially when you're joining a team only a week before training camp.

They're pretty convinced here in Tampa that he's coming. Gruden coached in Green Bay Favre's first three years and is already drooling at the prospect. But it's hard to image Favre coming in 'cold' and beating out Jeff Garcia, who was outstanding last year.

Which is why Miami and Baltimore are reportedly in his sights. Much less competition.

Muck, Favre has said he doesnt want to learn a new system before so yeah
TB would be a better for for him.

Oh God, no no no no no no no no no no no no no no no.

Its not about staying healthy at this point for him, its about him remaining an elite QB which he wont be, he can only decline at this point. It would be like having the Shell of Marino playing for us again.

Well, if he's not coming back to GB it's going to be a new system. I'm guessing he said that pre-"release me".

True. But it's possible that he could still be a very good QB next year. Chris Landry said Favre graded out at an All-Pro level last year. Guy got an MVP vote to boot. When he's got a running game, which he did last year, he plays very well. Miami will have a running game.

Still, you can get old fast in this league. And at 39 (midseason), he ain't getting any younger. But 4,155 yards, 28 TDs and a 95.7 QBR is pretty incredible at any age. And he only threw 15 INTs and had 15 sacks.

He's physically in much better shape than Marino was at the end. Dan's body was done.

Favre also had his highest completion percentage of his career.

it wasnt so much his body as it was his legs and knees... He looked like a robot running out there. He could still sling the ball with the best of them, just couldnt run and avoid the rush for anything...:cry:

i can agree with that.. my point is, we havent had 1 QB post Marino finish an entire 16 game season, Favre would do that.

Yeah but wasn't it the deal when Aaron Rodgers was drafted that Favre said he wouldn't mentor him and that it wasn't his job to do that. I believe Favre said he would help Rodgers when needed but wouldn't mentor him and show him the tricks of the trade. So Favre probably wouldn't be the best teacher but he would be a solid QB for next year or the next but long term he will be a hindrance and I would prefer he go else where but I won't complain if he goes to Miami.

I would think that he is coming back to WIN, not to suffer through a losing season. Yeah, sure we will win more games with him, but we wont make the playoffs PERIOD! IF we were in the NFC we would have a much better chance. He is not coming to Miami.

Much worse than Joe Montana. At least KC had a playoff caliber team when he signed with them.

While I love what Farvre can bring to a team, he just would not be what the Fins are all about now, and that is BUILDING for the future. How can we possibly want to spend $ 12 million this season, and cripple our ability to sign other FA's ? I would much rather go after a WR like Horn than sign Favre.

Maybe, maybe not. He is 38 and the Miami OLine is not exactly pro-bowl quality.

For a trade to be executed, my guess is that we would ask him to renegotiate his current deal that pays him $13 million over the next three years.

As for the Horn over Favre comment, I wouldn't. I'll take Favre 10/10 times over Horn. Horn has been a good receiver in this league but he's washed up. Favre is still playing at a high level. He had his highest completion percentage last year.

That said, I don't want Favre at all. This is a rebuilding situation and I want to see what the current QB's can display for us.

I would welcome Favre with open arms. He's got one or two good years left. At a minimum, he's a hell of a lot better bridge to the Beck/Henne Era (whichever it may be) than Josh Flippin' McCown.

You do know that Joe Horn hasn't been any good since 2004, right? Favre was excellent last year.

sigh... since Tuna/Ireland are supposed to be "close" with the Packers' GM Thompson, whom Favre supposedly has a rift with, it doesn't make sense... let alone the fact that Miami is not going to be a contender this year even with Favre.

Is this a serious comparison? Last time I checked, Favre has actually won a few games, has a few records and has won a ring.

Oh and he's one of the best QBs ever.

When was the last time a veteran QB on his last ropes was successful here? We dont need to do this again, we have plenty of decent-average QBs to work with and hopefully improve. All Brett Farve can do for us is fall on his *** a few times behind an inexperienced OLine with no decent WRs to throw to.

I flip flop more so much on this. I love the idea. I hate the idea. I really want John Beck to step up . . . but if he does not, then Farve would be a heck of a lot better than throwing Henne to the wolves or McCown.

I just don't see how Favre is the answer for us...

He'll be 39 sometime this season, and even tho he's been healthy, his body has to break down sometime. Do I want that to be in the middle of this season with him here ?? What then, we throw another unprepared QB into the fray like we did with Beck last year ??

13 million dollars...anyone suggesting he'll play for much less is crazy...why tie him up for 3 yrs when it's obvious he won't be around much longer....all we get out of that is two years of dead cap space....one year of getting knocked on his can here and he'll want out......again.... So then we have another JT distraction to deal with...no thanks...

The man has played in the WCO for his entire career...are we going to suddenly throw all the work done bt the rest of the team thus far this offseason out and switch to the WCO ?? Does any coach on our staff have any WCO experience ?? Ok, we'll have Favre change...anyone remember the Harrington experiment ?? How about Steve Young struggling those years in Tampa before he was put into his natural spot in SF ?? How about Garcia in Cleveland a few years ago ?? Moving WCO QBs, even great ones just doesn't have a good success rate or history...

The expectations for this team, realistically is somewhere between 4-8 wins. Does anyone really think Favre would satisfy his ego here with that record ?? A suspect OL, suspect WRs (experience), suspect RBs(injuries and dope), suspect TEs (a journeyman and a backup)....

Let's just suppose that he comes here and plays well enough that we get back into the playoffs this year. Ok, what then ?? Will he want to play the following year ?? Of course we go all offseason wondering and then suddenly we're a decent team with no QB experience to speak of...no thank you....Tuna, develop this team as you have intended to do all along...You've got you man waiting in the wings (Henne) that you can throw into the fray if Beck and McClown can't pull it off. Continue on the road that makes this franchise compete again for real....not with smoke and mirrors...
