I didn't say anything about throwing the asset away for nothing, and my question won't be answered until his contract is truly up. Of course, they might have to let him walk in free agency, but it would be foolish to let him walk a year before free agency, bad apple or not.

 

His contract was up after this season, the team extended it for another year, at 7.4 million, which becomes guaranteed if he's on the week 1 roster. It was one of the first things Hickey did, probably after consulting with Philbin.

It it seems like the people who coach, play, work with Pouncey have one opinion and the people who just hear about him on the news have a different one.

 

7.4M is not a lot of guaranteed money.

Picking up a team option is not the same thing as giving someone an extension.

Maybe this conversation is too nuanced for you, but it is possible to think that the team did the right thing by picking up the option while at the same time thinking that the team may want to think long and hard before giving the guy a big contract.

I assumed this stance would be pretty easy to grasp. Perhaps not.

 

Only reason why I said that is because people were saying "Oh, we should have traded Pouncey because of this" when he wasn't even charged yet.

I guess what I should have said was "You know Pouncey's not even being charged, right?"

 

So, the team should think long and hard before giving out a big long term contract? Lmao. Cmon Captain Obvious, break me off with a few more nuggets of your great wisdom.
