My first live NFL game was that year at Indy. Down 17-7 at half. My father and I spent much of the game surrounded by delirious Indy fans, some of whom were good-naturedly rubbing it in. Up 35-17 at the final gun. Got to see 4 of the 48 TD's. Left the stadium surrounded by subdued Indy fans, who were grumbling and looking forward to the next one.

Although I love going to games (and I have seen some exciting ones), there has never been another one that felt (or looked) like that.

Solid post. I think you're dead-on about the field awareness thing.

I got into some friendly arguments last year that Tannehill was holding onto the ball too long. I think it is possible to have a historically bad o-line and still be responsible for some of the sacks. It's the nature of the position: you must make quick, good decisions in order to get the most out of that arm. I'm hoping that the problem with Tannehill is simply a matter of inexperience. He hasn't played as many games at QB as Luck or Wilson, for example.

I remember seeing a thread about Tannehill's deep ball numbers in comparison to just Mike Wallace and among the rest of his receiving targets? I'm having an argument with my friend about Tannehill's "deep ball," but I feel like I need the graphic or article itself, to convince him otherwise, while he's just spouting off Mike Wallace as his main point. Any help would be much appreciated!

I think it's tough to tell at this point what of all that is attributable to inexperience at the position and what of it is attributable to a ceiling perhaps on his overall ability.

Well in my opinion there is a difference in feeling the pressure and feeling an untouched defender closing in.

Last season I thought Tannehill actually felt the rush well. One issue was that he would slide up in the pocket only to find that there was another defender beating his man for the sack.

I don't have much issue with his field awareness on normal plays.

The free rusher thing he could certainly improve but I'd say its mainly instinct. If his biggest issue is that a completely free interior rusher causes an occasion fumble....ill live with it.

Watched it several times and then watched it again. Yes, RT did a fake but while he was doing the fake (he knew he was faking the pass so he should have been aware of the rush up the middle) he had no clue the rush was coming up.

The reality is - it is that way regularly. He needed to react quickly to the rush and, if necessary, forget the fake and scramble. All he had to do was scramble to the right and forget the fake.

This is exactly what I'm referring to. RT is so locked into running the play that is called, that he has very little improvisational flexibility. He is just not - at this stage in his career - comfortable enough in the backfield. I hope he improves but that sack and certain plays during a game really hurt. If he plays at the level he has this pre-season I think the Dolphins are again a borderline playoff team at best. There are still serious question-marks to his ability to move beyond a mid-level, 12-18 ranked QB.

Marino would be number 1 but he didn't start until week 6 his rookie year.
