so by my unofficial count, I'm only seeing Brenner, Streeter and Lobato on our practice squad so far.
Be serious, will you? What the hell do you know about this situation and their roster plans and/or interactions with the players recently brought on board?
there were a lot of dumass questions in his presser, and you could tell he was agitated...he started prefacing every response with the word " again" at least 6 times..then his answers started getting very indescript...he's gonna have to show more patience with these local guys.. What I did like was that he just refused to take credit for anything, always using his staff and "we"..and went out of his way to protect the players.
Glad to see Hazel and Garrison Smith. David Hinds is a guy I remember. And the corner from Tulsa can play safety as well.
I'd guess both Seamster and Ross will play STs. I don't think we can know yet which of them, if either, will play the same spots on STs as Jones did. We really have not seen much of Don Jones at safety to know how good he can be, but in his one season starting, Ross was awful. He is a converted corner, so that may have something to do with his struggles at safety. He hasn't been doing it that long. The best thing I can say about Ross is he went to the same school as Ed O'Neill aka Al Bundy. Ed was a good enough football player in his day to sign a free agent contract and go through one training camp with the Steelers. I think it was in 1969 or thereabouts.
Dez is allowed to express his opinions like anyone else. Honestly, I've read much worse stuff on this forum than his recent comments about Hickey.
Mhm..and to be honest...Dez has gotten alot better with his posts as of late. For me....and Im speaking for myself....I could care less if you love or hate the Phins. I could care less if you love Tannehill or Hickey. Just dont say....he sucks....or...hes awful...and not bring something to the table. In the past....Dez has been negative....but he didnt support his thoughts...he just stated them as fact..and you end up sounding like a troll after that. Lately...hes backed his opinion up some, and in the end thats all any of us can ask for. Doesnt matter what game the Phins bring....if WE bring our A game here....as fans...we can only win. And thats the fact JACK!
Though it is premature to write Hickey off by any means - I do think those last two moves (Jones/Williams for Ross/Seamster) were not great moves. My best guess is they are not real pleased with special teams and hope these can fill a void (though Ross could compete with Davis/Taylor for dime back coverage). But, Don Jones was a pretty solid special teams player - I just don't see any reason from replacing him with a marginal, untested UDFA like Seamster. Williams might have been a #6 WR but that's on a team where the difference between #6 and #1 is minimal at best on a receiving corps that really has nothing special (though Brandon Gibson, if he stays healthy, is a very reliable #3). I saw very little difference between Williams and the starters Wallace/Hartline. I thought he had a very good pre-season and proved that he could get playing time. Given that you have two players who have proven themselves on the field already and in areas of need (Jones STs; Williams WR), these moves were rather disappointing. Let's face it - you have a DB who was cut by the Raiders, for crying out loud. And a UDFA cut in camp as well. If you wanted to replace Jones with one of those - understandable, though a bit disappointing.
Aside from that one awesome tackle he had last year, Jones wasn't very good on ST at all. Had a lot of penalties and missed a good amount of tackles. Edit: Did poorly on ST this pre-season too.
When a person devotes this much time and consternation over the practice squad of their favorite team, maybe its time to step away for a bit and re-prioritize.
I find it pretty funny that people were salivating over the thought of acquiring Lache Seastrunk through waivers and yet he was NOT claimed by anyone and Washington did not even attempt to put him on their own practice squad. As always..there is more to what goes on with these players then what we read and see in a video clip
He was talking about swapping out Jones and Williams for Ross and Seamster, on the 53 man roster. Not the practice squad.
What was seen on film seemed to be confirmed. He averaged 4.8 YPA running between the tackles and had a long TD on a screen pass. He had vision, speed and tackle breaking ability. He lacked pass pro ability and didn't play STs (not sure why?). Basically good as a runner and as a receiver but not an all-around guy. Some coaches value that all-around ability more than the explosive offensive talent. And I don't think Washington did all that great of a job of getting him in space outside of that one screen pass. In Miami he would seem to be a nice fit since they seem to be using the backs in releases more often than in pass pro. Short of some attitude issue that hasn't been made public, he still seems like a missed opportunity for Miami. It kind of reminds me of the two times we passed on Brees. We'll see if Lache makes us regret passing or if he'll just fade into obscurity.
Seastrunk has unreal burst and he moves in unnatural ways to avoid contact. I heard he had some foot issues, so medical could be the reason he is not signed. I honestly think that Miller is done in Miami. And Darkwa is not better than Seastrunk, and neither is Miller imo. Seastrunk has more power and is more elusive. I can't speak about the vision on Seastrunk, but Miller and Darkwa are not great either. Dude is 100% worth getting, barring medical issues and such.
My point, the other two are on a roster. As I said, I don't know enough about the dude, but 32 teams say he is not worthy right now for whatever reason (injury or talent).
So according to your brilliant analysis, no other team in the NFL has needs at RB or even on their practice squad. Miami deserves to be bashed because they alone are in need of his services due to your armchair analysis. I'm glad you have went through all 31 teams and their practice squad, any observations you would like to share regarding RB depth?
I don't know about y'all but I'm tired of watching edge rushers blow right past the line and get to RT...Moreno helps that, Seastrunk wouldn't.
I am not following your logic. You know the other teams evaluate talent out there during cutdown time. Forget about what running backs we have. The issue at hand is whether Sistrunk should be on a roster. I think the league as a collective is saying they don't have a need for him relative to their own roster. I like what I saw from him, but I am not a NFL talent man.
