Just some quick thoughts on the game from a Dolphins perspective. In order for Miami to win, I think the following things need to occur:

    1) Make someone other than Gronkowski beat you. To me, if I'm the Patriots and I know that Jimmy Wilson is starting this game, I'm going after him. He didn't look particularly good in the preseason as a S and his best work in the NFL has come as a slot CB. Plus, with Gronkowski's size, that's an automatic mismatch. I think Miami needs to do whatever they can to limit Gronkowski's impact on the game...which is easier said than done with no Dion Jordan and Reshad Jones. But I think if you can get Delmas matched up on him and get a solid game out of Wheeler and Ellerbe covering him, you can force Brady to try and beat Miami on the outside. Make him beat Grimes and Finnegan with the Patriots receiving corps; don't let the obvious horse crush you from the start.

    2) Shorten the game. Miami needs to keep Brady off the field in order to improve their odds. To me, that means eliminating the Patriots running attack and forcing them into bad 3rd down situations. Miami also needs to run the ball efficiently. I don't think they're going to run for 150+, but if they can get key first downs and sustain drives, it's going to help them. Those drives need to end in TDs though.

    3) Special teams. I know this may seem obvious, but look at the last 3 games against the Patriots. Miami had the botched FG attempt that cost them 3 points last December. Caleb Sturgis missed a FG in New England during his rough patch earlier last season, and back in 2012, Miami had a penalty trying to block a punt which gave New England the ball back and they subsequently scored a TD. Miami also had a botched snap on a punt and turned the ball over inside their own 20. The Patriots scored off that and those scores helped keep that game out of reach at the end. Miami needs to eliminate special teams mistakes and with a host of new special teams players both covering kicks and returning kicks and punts, that makes me a little queasy.

If Miami are able to do those 3 things then I think the game is more "winnable". IMO, Miami needs to keep this game low-scoring, think 24-17, 20-14, 17-13, something like that as I think it'd be pretty hard to go score for score with the Patriots in a shootout game, especially given the 1st team offense's issues in the preseason. Until they prove they can sustain drives and score TDs instead of FGs, I just don't think a shootout "W" is in the cards.

Brandon LaFell - underrated at a big body who is versatile and can actually line up at TE, picked up the slack when Steve Smith was hurt, showed good play in the preseason specifically in the redzone

Julian Edelman - emerged as an elite slot receiver who is one of the best in the league at getting open, finding soft spots in the zone and slicing it up in the slot, had over 1,000 yards last season, a bunch of touchdowns and 4th in receptions. No matter how you cut it, that's very damn good

Aaron Dobson and Kenbrell Thompkins - each had at least 100 or more yards and 3 more touchdowns then both underrated receivers David Givens and Deion Branch did back in 2002 and those two turned out just wright. Additionally both are at least 6'1 and bring size and athleticism to the position as well as upside that their predecessors didn't have.
Both have had excellent preseasons this year, specifically beyond 20 yards down the field. The one thing they both did extremely well last year is consistently get separation, I think they grasp for concept now with much better hands.

Danny Amendola - when healthy, essentially a younger Wes Welker that while in St.Louis, had over 60% of catches for over 15 yards and 55% outside the hashmarks which indicates that he is just more then a slot receiver but can be a vertical threat as well. He played with a groin injury the ENTIRE season last year and STILL had impactful games when he did play. Healthy, he will be a big factor this season

Brian Tyms - big body, looked great with the 1st and 2nd team offense, Moss-Like game, 6'4 athletic, quick, fast and catches with his hands, serving a 4 game suspension right now but can make some noise specifically with Tom.

How receivers are extremely underrated and are all smart, with a smart QB, smart staff and complex but excellent system that will benefit tremendously from good receiving backs behind them and tremendous tightends between them.

I honestly hope Wilfork's achilles can take his weight. Grimes is one thing, Wilfork is two of Grimey.

I've watched all your receivers, don't really need the breakdowns, but when you start to compare years from the past from other players to make your points you lose me..who is the other tight end that is "tremendous?"...you lose steam there as well.

Our corners match up well with your receivers..

Your running game produced a 4.3 average..not bad...our Dline is our strength.

Yes they are, but they all feel great according to trainers, staff and themselves and look ready to go. The only one I'm hesitant on is Wilfork because of his weight. But so far so good, as far as Revis, he let nothing happen on his side of the field vs the Panthers and dropped an INT.. he looked great. Gronk I think after the first initial contact will feel like he never left.

I cannot talk smack because imo were missing three of our most athletically talented players..so you should have the advantage..

If y'all were missing your best Olineman, your best safety and chandler jones you wouldn't be here I don't think.

There's a high probability that he is a lesser player..the amount of time off your feet with that injury, the atrophy, the lack of offseason training..the age, the weight..

He should be deemed inconsequential in this game with Lazor's intelligence.

Tannehill should have 4 boots, and 3 to 4 read options that he should be on the field for because they should all happen On running downs.

I'm waiting to see how aggressive the refs are at throwing flags on the new rule. That may take Revis out of his comfort zone if his mauling style turns him into a penalty machine. CB stats may be different this year. Guys like Grimes may thrive. We saw Davis being favored over Taylor in preseason because of his style. I'm concerned about the refs being consistant.

    On Tim Wright from cbslocal.com
    - He appeared in all 16 games for Tampa Bay last season and made eight starts, hauling in 54 receptions for 571 yards and five touchdowns. He caught one pass for six yards against the Patriots in Week 3.
    - Wright caught three touchdowns over the final four weeks of the 2013 season. New Orleans Saints All-Pro Jimmy Graham was the only tight end in the NFL who caught more touchdowns (four touchdowns) than Wright over that span. In those final four games of the season, Wright caught 18 passes for 188 yards.
    - He is one of just eight tight ends to have 50+ receptions in their rookie season, joining a list that includes Mike Ditka (56 receptions, 12 TDs for Chicago in 1961), Jeremy Shockey (74 receptions for NY Giants in 2002), John Carlson (55 reception for Seattle in 2008) and Keith Jackson (81 receptions, six touchdowns for Philadelphia in 1988).

And I think that with Ridley's fumbling issues going away and Vereen back, our running game will kick back up again. Especially with OT Sebastian Vollmer back.

It will probably be one of two 2013 UDFAs, Jordan Devey, or Josh Cline. They were first and second in offensive snaps for NE this preseason, and both started and played an entire game at LG. Devey in Week 2, and Cline in Week 5. Whichever one it is, when combined with Ryan Wendell at C, and Dan Connolly at RG, their interior 3 will be made up of all UDFAs.

If he is healthy, he is a very good corner. For a long time, the Patriots offense has facilitated separation and yardage through creative schemes. Lazor's offense has achieved this during the preseason. If he achieves this verses the Patriots, he can limit the impact of Revis.

Clay is probably still our best offensive weapon given his matchup flexibility. This will be emphasized by the scheme that Lazor employs. Wallace is going to be better in this scheme. Lining him up in a single position took away his strengths and allowed defenses to attack his weaknesses. The motion, spreading the field, attacking the defense is going to look very different. Your defense will have to think more, have good communication, and be ready for a very, very different offense.

As I mentioned earlier, I am concerned about the interior of the offensive line. I am not concerned about three and outs due to predictably. Those days are gone.

Earl and Randy should be able to penetrate and allpy interior pressure..I think Mitchell is going to be better for us in this defense than Solai..I didn't see anything to deter me from that feeling in the preseason, he's active, non stop and quick off the ball..their interior oline better be on their game handling those three because Mitchell is comin Every down.

Our nickel last year Jimmy Wilson will take the safety spot

PFFs lowest rated center last year Samson satele takes over for the pro bowl player Pouncey, and we will have a few guys like Shelby and McCain (preseason star) subbing for Jordan, problem is, when you saw Dion blanketing Gronkowski last year forty yards downfield that will not be happening anymore, he is now a 275 def end instead if a 245 lb amazing prospect.

"I'm ready to go," Gronkowski said, according to the Boston Herald. "I'll be playing."
"(I'm) definitely not (playing) every single snap," Gronkowski added, via ESPNBoston.com. "But just get out there, get my feet wet, whatever we game-plan this week, will be good."

    My bold prediction for 2014:

First play of the game Gronk and Amendola attempt a horribly executed pick play and they become infused in the impending collision going to the turf in what can only be described as a "human mash." Worried they are too brittle to be separated, for the first time in the history of the game both players are strapped together and hauled off the field on the same stretcher.
