The challenge has been issued to Dolphins running back Lamar Miller — be more productive. That was the message from offensive coordinator Bill Lazor on Monday when he was asked what he expects from Miller http://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports/...rss&utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter I took so much grief here and was called a Miller hater but I never really thought he would amount to much. Lazor apparently holds a higher standard for his running backs than Sherman. It's about time Lamar Miller got called out.
Well, when one goes from having McCoy to Miller, I would expect some letdown. I still have hope for Miller, but I think Moreno will get the bulk of the heavy duty work this year.
I know thats the headline..but I wouldnt say he got called out. They expect more production. Its just saying it like it is. Why the media takes something and turns it into something else is kinda lame.
I've never been sold on him either. With all that speed he's supposed to have, he should be FAR more productive. Our line hasn't really helped him at all, but even then, his vision and decision-making stand out to me as below-average. Hopefully Lazor can trim some of that away and help him to excel. Jury's out.
No offense, but I'd think that they were total idiots if they told him to be less productive...or even equally as productive. Do we really have to "call out" running backs to make them work harder these days?
Miller blows. Last year I found it hilarious how people were drafting him in the second round of fantasy.. What has ever done to merit the hype? Drop a wide open TD pass against Atlanta last year? Break a single tackle or juke out a defender once? Heck, Daniel Thomas looked better at times. Moreno made him look like an amateur two weeks ago.
He can break a big play but is more likely to make a bad cut or get bumped and go down by a defender he should have juked.
Calfishman wants Miller to be more productive this year. Calfishman wants the Miami Dolphins to be more productive this year. He wants Philbin to coach better this year. He wants Philbin to either inspire or teach his players to play better or at least assemble a group of assistants to do so. He would like a coach to play the best players not just the ones hes most comfortable with. He wants the coach and staff to create a system and plan maximally utilizes the strenghths of Miamis players or aquire the appropriate talent to exucute their offensive/ defensive philosphies, not a half assed square peg round hole hybrid of the 2. He would like an owner to aquire coaches , managers and staff who do these things or replace them with competent talent when they fail. He would love to look forward to March and April as a time build upon last years success rather than rebuild and fill glaring holes. He would really like to drink in January maybe even in Febrauary in celebration rather than frustration and depression.
Miller would be a good looking back if he had a great run-blocking line opening holes so he could maximize his speed without making a cut. other than that, he's what we saw last year. I think he's fine in Lazor's system as change of pace back from Moreno. we just have to hope Moreno stays healthy.
In my opinion he would be great in a *gulp* Tony Sparano type run game. Don't give him too many options. This is your hole, hit it hard. IMO He can be a good back but I don't think he fits our system. He's the type of back you don't want picking a hole but once he hits that hole or gets past it he's more than capable.
I'm totally with ya on the Gurley to Miami juggernaut, but you might want to change the 25th pick thing. We will have to trade up to get him if he stays healthy. Oh, and BTW, I agree with some of the other posts, none of our current RB's are true feature backs of the future.
Ya, that's all subjective, the key is I want them to draft him. I'm fairly sure Lazor, barring a break-out from somebody on the roster (come on Knowshon and Damien!!), isn't happy with our RB set going forward. He's going to want a beasty.
While I find this a little harsh, I had the same thought against Dallas. Moreno looked like a long lost "pro" at running back. Played at a different level.
While I believe Moreno should get the bulk of the carries as of now, I still like Lamar as a Wild Card type player this year. He clearly has the great speed but his vision is questionable, there was no single play that pissed me off as much as that run against Cincy where he had what looked like a great TD run but inexplicably ran towards the Bengals defenders and fumbled. Hopefully we see more runs like these: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6oOHSvKknQQ
Lazor touched on it...Decisiveness...tempermeant..Moreno showed it, miller hasn't shown it, he needs to catch up..when you get the handoff, you need to attack, press, and finish...with an attitude..every player needs to have this mentality, you here me Brian Hartline, I wanna see your white skinny *** finish..lol
I've mentioned how I feel about Miller many a time. It's ok because I think we have a decent stable of backs. I like the potential of Moreno, D. Williams/Darkwa.
