If it makes so much of a difference, why doesn't every coach in the NFL do the same thing? Of course Belichick is the smartest HC in the entire league, so I guess I answered my own question.
They've missed one playoff since 2003, and that's when they lost Brady for the year and still tied us for first place. Whatever he does, it works.
To be honest, I think most of the reason they've been so damn successful over the previous 15 years (besides Brady) is they play VERY disciplined fundamental football. At least, it comes across to me that way. Staying on assignment, fulfilling your blocking spot, holding coverage as planned, stuff like that. I'm sure those years they were videotaping didn't hurt, nor does the annual download, but it's much more than that.
Armando Salguero @ArmandoSalguero · 17m Bruce Gaston isn't joining the Dolphins in time to help on the field Sun. But he stayed in NE long enough to know their def. game plan so...
"However, the acquisition of Bruce Gaston off waivers likely was not motivated by the desire to get information about the Patriots defense, as I'll explain below" The Phinsider "While it's true that Gaston was waived the Patriots, it's far more likely that he was claimed by the Dolphins due to his athletic talent rather than to give the Dolphins' coaches a chance to interrogate him about the Patriots' defense. The reason for that is that Gaston had only been a member of the Patriots for roughly 48 hours. He was claimedoff waivers on Sunday afternoon by the Patriots after he spent the entire offseason up to that point on the Arizona Cardinals roster prior to being waived. Gaston joined the Patriots on Monday (3 days ago), then he was waived on Wednesday (yesterday). That sequence of events really doesn't give him much time to learn a lot about the Patriots' defense unless he's a savant who learned the entire Patriots defensive playbook in under 2 days. It's also unlikely the Patriots would have waived him if they had already clued him in on their specific gameplan against the Dolphins offense. Otherwise, the Patriots easily could have kept him on their roster until Saturday."
It may not be cheating, but it's shady. And anyone who thinks he doesn't gain anything, even if it's just a psychological edge, by doing these things they're underestimating Bill. In the very least it gets our coaches thinking a little about it which in turn takes at least a little time away from them thinking about the next weeks game plan.
Wow, Thig on their PS...I guess we are going to get killed on Sunday because of that signing. I hate Belicheat as much as the next guy but who seriously cares.
I think Thiggy will fit well with them. He has talent in places they lack. I would not be surprised at all if he is on the 53 and makes some plays against us in our second meeting. I think he is a keeper for them.
I think Seattle and Sf went back and forth at one time doing it. Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk
except for if they keep him on the roster past week one they owe him his entire annual salary (not that he was making much in the grand scheme of things)
I am very sure this is why. Last year he claimed AJ Francis and Chris Barker off waivers from us, and won the division. This year it is Jones and Thigpen. That dude Brady playing QB has nothing to do with it. smdh.
No they wouldn't, because he is a rookie. That only applies to vested veterans. 4 accrued seasons or more.
Philbin's W-L record after his first two seasons as a head coach was better than BB's was. Give the man a chance. I swear, some of you all think any coach we hire should be instant Vince Lombardi.
I remember back in about 1998-99, on Curt's email group, I suggested Belichick as a good choice for our next head coach, and that dude Keith Ellul (sp) who thought he was such an expert on everything, stated with total certainty that BB was not head coaching material and should only be a coordinator from then forward. I wonder whatever happened to that Keith.
They went 11-5 against tougher competition than we faced in 2008 when they lost Brady. Sure, it was a drop off but that's pretty damn good. See Indy after losing Peyton. Brady + BB is domination. BB + half decent QB is still pretty good (Cassell). We better hope Garappolo isn't all that good. Belichick runs one of the most well disciplined teams out there. They do not step out of line. He'll bench a 1,200 yard over 5ypc running back in the very first game for fumbling. He's constantly testing his players with situational football. They're not perfect but they probably have the lowest number of boneheaded plays out there. Meanwhile didn't we fail to send someone to receive a punt last week or something?
My bad, your correct. For some reason I thought he was around during Anthony's final year coaching us.
Which two Miami waived players did BB claim at the end of training camp in 2008, to enable him to go 11-5 even without Brady?
