why is the mallet for the bass on the outside? odd smiley you got there.

 

Because the bass drum heads are clear, duh...

 

not uhhhh, the shaft is on the exterior of the bass. thus, the mallet is on the front of the bass. silly smiley is playing the drums on the wrong side of the drumset!

And I doubt the mallet would reach around from the back of the bass to the front just to hit it.
Its more convient to have the mallet on the inside, since the pedal is there too.

 

I dont think the artist of that smiley Griddles had knew what they were doing.

I don't know... I've played drums since I was 11 and I've never seen anything like it. Then again, I really didn't examine the smiley that much when I searched "rimshot smiley" on Google and copied the first link that Google gave me.
