It's becoming a beautiful skyline..this stuff can really help with changing the perception, the stadium upgrades should help, and hopefully they're gonna move some concrete in the building..even a little bit would be awesome.

I'm pretty sure that even at our biggest crowds the last handful of years, we had like 67-68,000 tops. If we're around 73,000 tomorrow the place is going to be packed.

This is going to be an awesome crowd I think. Along with the boiling heat, we may actually have a true home field advantage.

First game of the year + underdog at home + full stadium + division rival atop the division for years = upset and Dolphins win.

like I ways do I was studying Seattles fanbase in the game, one thing we can learn is that when the pats do make their plays because they will, to not let the air out if the bag and go " here we go again, Seattle fans would take the hit on the negative plays and you would hear them get right back into it..it was all about competing every down and they would do their part even on long third down conversion, even on multiple conversions, long drives..

Our fans need to remember it's a long game, their gonna score points, if we lose energy on a drive and choose to sit on our ***, it affects the players, they feel that...and this is our vicious cycle that we've had here for a very long time..

Don't worry if they score, it's about stopping one drive at a time, every drive counts..every new set if downs is a chance to stop, forget the last series or set of downs if it didn't go our way.

If we wanna set the tone and start to build something players can be proud of and play for something then fans will sacrifice their tail gate festivities and get their beer inside and get to their seats, main problem is that at 1 o'clock fans will wait til the last minute to take their seats, the sun in Miami at 1 o'clock is like no other in the league, and it pounds people, it deflates people, it puts you on your ***, it surely doesn't engage you into the game, only the diehards like myself can handle elements like that and still do what I need to do, this is why the roof should help us tremendously with fans at least feeling more comfortable sitting down early at 1, sitting in the shade watching will be a much better experience..bottom line, it will give the fan more energy so they in return can give it to the players.

The vibe is they know they can play with anyone if they get their minds right..we beat the pats 6 out of 8 quarters last year..we beat the steelers in their park, we beat the bengals, we beat the colts in their park, we beat the chargers, those five teams happen to be the consensus favorites to go to the playoffs over us..we know we have improved our team talent wise, we know we have have better coaches..and I'm sure they have seen ryan improve in camp..bottom line they know they fu@& ed up last year.

And it sounds corny, and I've fallen for the banana in the tailpipe before, but their pretty serious about following the credo.

I believe the fans affect the refs too. I boystrous crowd that calls the refs out for their BS makes them think twice about BS calls at crutial periods of the game. I think the opening shot the media uses is a tape delay about 20 minutes early and it always looks like the stadium is empty. Or everyone is at the concession lines because I heard they are really slow or it's so hot everyone watches from the concourse. Either way, the stadium will not look full at the opening shots.

Im one who gets motivated by symbolism. Actually..if you look back in history..symbolism has always been hugely important. What was interesting about that shield..is it represents the 53 players who made the team. Its just something that binds them together...I really like this team. Maybe we dont win enough the playoffs..but I know we got a team that is gonna be fun to watch.

it's exactly what happens, fans are in the corridors delaying the beat down the sun is about to put on them, problem is that's not good for the team..it's why I love four o'clock games.

When you have a venue that doesn't impact the game you've got to find ulterior motives.

The symbolism that's relevant to tomorrow's game is that the Dolphins stand a good chance of feeling like the same ol' team if they pack the stadium, start the season by getting highly motivated as a home underdog to play a division rival who's dominated the division for years, and come away with a loss, and I don't think they're going to allow that to happen. The "here we go again with another mediocre year" would be too much to bear.

On the other hand, the game has little if any similar meaning for the Patriots (it's a comparatively mundane game for them), which is why I think this one will be an upset for the Dolphins.

Pretty much... Was super lifeless when the Rams were only winning 1 or 2 games a year. I believe they are trying to either get a new stadium deal or renovate like miami is.

I'm as diehard as it gets... and I literally almost died at the Bills game last year with my seats facing the sun. I had to watch the 2nd quarter from the concourse.

Super hot baking sun + drinking don't mix. You can get wasted and rowdy in Seattle b/c it's 70deg and overcast. In Miami you pass out...

    Marketing campaign.

Incentive based give aways ( like if your in the building before a certain time you get a free _____. If not you don't.

PA announcements...really just have to go there..

Volunteers outside walking around the building with megaphones urgings fans to get inside and in their seats.

Signs put up outside the venue where we have the club zone as reminders..

Signs put up inside the corridors..

    Radio announcements.

Emails to season ticket holders stressing the importance..also telling them to tell their guests.

I'm sure I could go on.

To change a culture you have to go all in..you have to shake the fans a bit..you have to start a snowball to have one pick up more snow.

Absolutely bro, it all plays a role, the venue is and has been a major problem in this organization..that's why I don't blame our fans most of the time, its why I lobbied so hard for a new one, and at least grateful for the renovations, even though their missing out on a new one by not building one from scratch to intimidate, now that you know the power of the link, with smart people we could do better..seriously..ob2 for both programs would be the right way to go, but I must digress.

I've seen people get pounded by that sun in the first and just sit there like zombies, just battling..lots of them are hungover from the night before, some are drunk from tailgating, then bam, heat blast like no other..

This all plays a role in the emotion and mindset of the players..you can't tell me that players aren't affected negatively or positively by the energy inside the building.

You should send this list of ideas to Tom Garfinkle (or at least the Dolphin's marketing department or whatever) stating how important it is for the fans to be in their seats on time. You can state that it's important for the team but it can also be a marketing tactic in and of itself.

If the fans are in their seats early in the game, the early shots of the stadium will seem as if the stand are full, and in turn creating a snowball effect...people who are watching from home will feel like going to the games if it seems like the stadium is filling up regularly.

Man do I wish someone would listen..

I just hope that they don't spend the whole four hundred million on bells and whistles..they really need to understand the importance of actually moving the stands closer to the field, which requires true concrete relocation, from everything I've read, reread, listened to, and I've read and listened to every possible word, from what I know I only think their gonna add four rows along the bottom row that's already there..I heard one comment about some shifting but it was grey and not clear..

Did you notice that they painted the whole club section aqua?... Check it out, it looks good.

I think the main problem is that the team hasn't had an adequate quarterback (save for Chad Pennington's year) since about this era:

Notice there doesn't seem to be any problem with the stadium in that clip.

I think you're dealing with a chicken-or-the-egg issue here. Does the stadium seem like a problem because the team hasn't been competitive since the mid-1990s (other than in Pennington's year), or has the team not been competitive (at least in part) because of the stadium? How could one ever know?

I think Deej's point about the layout of the stadium is a great point. Yes, having a great team helps as well, but you can NOT beat the effect 12 has in Seattle...

I'm not sure you want a stadium that gives you such a tremendous advantage at home that you suffer as a team a potential tremendous let down on the road. For example, since 2002, the year Seattle started playing in its current stadium, its home win percentage is 71%, while its away win percentage is 41%. By contrast, New England during that period (2002-2014) won 84% of its home games and 69% of its away games.

Comparing a recently successful franchise to the Patriots over the last 12 years doesn't really tell the story though.

I'd still rather they had Seattle's stadium.

It's the discrepancy between home and away win percentage that tells the story, regardless of how successful the franchises were overall.

Having a home field advantage shouldn't give you a disadvantage in the road if you're properly coached. Winning on the road often takes superior QB play which the Patriots have had an Seattle has not.

If you look simply at teams with elite QBs I'd imagine their home and road winning percentages are very good regardless of venue.

Seattle's win percentage at home since 2002 is 5th in the league overall, at 71%. Its road win percentage during that period, on the other hand, is 18th in the league, at 41%.

  39. PhinFan1968

Certainly a big part of it...the team's gotta be good. But why wouldn't you want any advantage at home you could get, if it even makes the difference of winning 1 or 2 games more than you would have? I think Seattle's type of stadium and crowd gives that type of advantage.
