Recognized the subtle insinuation that the Team making it to the AFCC game has nothing to do with the play of the QB, in fact is assumed by the second choice that it is the QB as reason for the loss. Typical.
B. We'd be sure to get one of the best coaches available if we miss the playoffs and Tannehill shows superstar type ability.
A and it's not even close I'd rather have a good team than just a good QB. I would think the Marino years would have informed this decision. Been there...
ah..no. It is early stated, there is NO DISCERNIBLE REASON for the team reaching the AFCCG. and NOTHING is assumed by the second choice. They are separate hypotheticals.
Damn! You let me know too late bro. Don't know what it was, but I would have liked to check it out. I'll look for it on the website. I choose A. LOL!!!!!
So in the second scenario to clear things up possibly: Is it a given that the team around Tannehill is bad?
Not for sure at all. Going 9-7, no playoffs, but a big stat year for Tannehill, could very likely be enough for Ross to keep Philbin and staff intact.
Its a different league now. You need the elite QB or the QB to be elite for a year. In this era if we had Marino we'd be in the AFCCG every year.
A lot of those Colts teams after they let go of Edjerin James were really, really similar to the Fins teams of the 90s. Annual contenders.
A team that gets to the AFC championship game is by definition a good team. If there is no "discernable reason," then it's a whole bunch of reasons at the same time this is scoring points and preventing clearly talented teams from scoring.
I'd rather have B. It's a quarterback-driven league, and having Tannehill establish himself in that way would provide the team cornerstone around which to build for the next 8 to 10 years. Reaching the AFC Championship game by contrast, while not having established Tannehill in that way (i.e., "no discernible reason for why they are so good"), would be meaningless.
Seahawks 2010 were 7-9 and ranked in the bottom for every major category. They made it to the divisional round. If cutler somehow how has his customary 4 int game they're in the NFCCG. It's entirely possible to get there without a good team. It is 10x easier to build a contender if you have a prolific qb. As bad as Belichick had been drafting a few years ago the Patriots have only missed one playoff since 2002. And that was 2008 when they lost him for the year. With a prolific QB you only need an average defense and you're deep in the playoffs. You don't even need to invest in offensive weapons. You already have a prolific qb! Sure, you might get a Stafford where he's prolific one year and sucks after. But the probabilities are still on your side.
I will say that if the comparison here is with the Jets and Mark Sanchez, there was certainly a discernible way they reached the AFC Championship game in one of those years. In that year they had the number-one rushing attack in the league, and the number-one defense in the league. That's pretty discernible. That said, I'll still take the Tannehill option.
I am stoked after today's game... I love the way the team played... The energy Moreno brought... Wake being Wake... Brady frustrated on the sidelines... Wallace lowering his shoulder... McCain's blocked punt... Clearly the turnovers sucked, but was a much cleaner 2nd half. What led me back to this poll was Tanne wasn't "prolific" but in general he made good decisions with the ball, did a nice job throwing it away when necessary, and using his legs to get out of trouble. Not trying to be a troll, but really curious if those who voted they preferred a Tanny prolific season are disappointed in the game today. Phins up!
Why would people be disappointed? The poll question wasn't "which scenario would disappoint you less?"
I think a number of people read this poll differently than others... In my overly simplistic view the poll was would you rather: A) the team play well B) Tanne be a stud That being said... I think my post can only cause negativity and not what I want so I won't respond further... Just want to enjoy the win...
