Na, just kidding. But i was impressed with philbin today. I thought he kept his composure well during the first half meltdown. Also, great adjustments were made at halftime. I am sure they have been game planning vs.NE for a while tho. No reason to lose next week.

Philbin is the one. The Neo. The savior. The one who delivered. The new sheriff of the AFC.

It's much more likely Philbin staying out of Lazor and Coyle's way than it had anything to do with him

Based on what? Your supreme knowledge of what transpired in the locker room? Even if your thesis is correct he should get credit for delegating power. Of course if they lost you would be blaming Philbin for not staying out of their way.

Not speaking for Disgustipate but I dont have much confidence in Philbin as a HC, he doesnt get the team fired up and they don't seem to be as prepared as they should. Alot of the same mistakes from 2012 carried into 2013 and then into the first half of this game. Id give credit to Coyle and Lazor for halftime adjustments over giving Philbin much credit. At this point I think Philbin is just managing and not really having much of an impact on this team coaching wise. But this is just my humble opinion.

Its the first time in Philbins regime than I can remember when our second half adjustments were the differenco to the game. The way those second string LBs played was just superb.

Overvalued trait IMHO. Carroll and Rex Ryan get their guys fired up. At this point, if grown men can't get their OWN units fired up for this type of game, I'm not sure a coach should be the fault.

One other thing I'm not sure Philbin's been given enough credit for is the talent level of this current team. Hickey goes out of his way to say their pickups in draft and free agency were "group" decisions between him, his crew, and Philbin.

We're deeper than we've been in a LONG time...as evidenced by today.

your basis for giving credit to everyone but jp is kind of ridic. Just like the rest of us you dont know how the gameplanning and adjustments go. Hell in his first season i remember people complimenting his great halftime adjustments in a few games. It sort of disgusts me when people think we win in SPITE of the HEAD COACH of the team. It even sounds ridiculous to just say. I also 100% disagree with getting the team fired up. They have bought into him. Its apparent.

I know he was more of an assistant head coach/executive secretary than coordinator in Green Bay, and I know there's quite a bit of deference to his coordinators in Miami. Philbin isn't a scheme guy. He's a pick up the garbage, tuck-in the players guy.

Finnegan, Delmas, Davis, and the rest of the defense looked pretty fired up. If Moreno would have been anymore fired up, he'd have hyperventilated.

Youre entitled to your opinion. I know several packers fans who hated to see him go and felt the loss almost immediately.

Well Rex got his team to the AFC Championship game TWICE and did well last year despite having crap for a roster in all instances. He had Sanchez as his QB and backed into the Finals TWICE. He got the team to play well even while having Geno Smith as his QB. They won today despite Smith playing like crap.

Carroll won in college and then won a SUPER BOWL last year.

Its not a necessary trait, but its certainly not overrated either. I'll take it over Philbin's deadpan anyday...unless Philbin proves to be a championship worthy coach.

Those Packers fans didn't actually know what his job involved and were generally afraid of messing with success than expressing a well-founded opinion.

How much can that be attributed to Philbin though? We don't really know, but Im going by past experience. Philbin has never gotten the team to come out fired up. IMO I think the players hyped themselves up, Wake and Moreno mostly leading the charge. But I could be wrong.

We're both entitled to our opinions and since neither of us is in the locker room, we wont know. But judging by how last season went down, you can forgive me for being a little jaded on our HC. I wanted him initially in 2012 but I was a little worried when I read what his role with Green Bay was. After last year I was beginning to think those suspicious were justified. But hopefully he'll prove me wrong. But those last two games last year coupled with bullygate(not all his fault) really soured my view on him. Maybe this year will be different. But Im not completely sold yet that Philbin is a "leader of men" and get guys to play inspired.

Was that Philbin? Or Lazor/Coyle? Or individual players(Wake, Moreno)? We dont and wont know for sure.

That's fair. The game plan and playcalling were superb. The execution was lacking at first but we got it together. Kudos all around to the staff and players.

Packers fans who are operating under the assumption Philbin had significant creative control in the Packers offense?

Yes, yes I do know more than those people. Because I read and pay attention.

You dont know its just an assumption. Thats YOUR assumption. At the end of the day, he can have zero involvement or can be the only person that givea the nod for anything. We just dont know. But hes the head coach man.

Yup. Finnegan and Delmas brought a much needed nasty attitude to this defense to compliment Starks, Wake, Vernon, etc.. It kinda reminded me of watching the Seahawks, 49ers, and Baltimore/Pitt circa 2008.

And Moreno....let's just say it's nice to see what a legit NFL starting RB looks like.

No, it's not. It's an educated hypothesis that barring someone saying "yes, that's totally true" is impossible to prove but the preponderance of evidence certainly points to it.

The one area of schematic expertise Philbin had isn't being used. Miami didn't run the offense Philbin was the coordinator for in Green Bay with Sherman, and they sure as hell aren't now.

There is more to being a Head Coach than play calling. They may not be using his play book but that's hardly an indictment on Philbin.

You don't have enough information to comment on his coaching job outside of that aspect.

I remember reading that Philbin was responsbile for game planning and sequencing plays but McCarthy was the de facto offensive coordinator. With Sherman, we ran a version of the WC offense that was ran in GB previously before McCarthy. These guys all come from the Holmgren coaching tree in some way, as Sherman worked for him, then McCarthy was Sherman's QB coach and Philbin was mentored under Sherman. So I can see the first two years us running the Green Bay offense from the late 90s/early 2000s opposed to the one that is being run recently until now.

Yes, there's are multiple aspects to it, and we're really discussing one. This thread is giving credit to Philbin for schematic elements, which is unlikely to be deserving.

That being said I don't want to give you the impression that Philbin really does any of the important head coaching jobs well enough that he should be an NFL head coach because I don't think he does.

I'm willing to give Philbin the benefit of the doubt especially after embarrassing the Pats in week 1 and shutting them out in the 2nd half.

However, I do think today proved a huge indictment of him in retrospect for being forced to fire Sherman and Turner. The running game, and OL were a significant factor in our offense being horrible last year. Benton and Lazor came in and made a rookie RT, backup C, backup LG, and average RG look like the 90's Cowboys. If Philbin had his way, we'd still have Sherman and Turner and about 3.3 YPC (and almost assuredly a Loss)

Ha. I can feel the hate you have for Philbin through this post. Honestly you just sound scared that Philbin might not be as bad as you thought and that you might be wrong. Too many posters on this board are too obsessed with being right rather than enjoying a victory.

As for your last paragraph, that's what I was eluding to with my earlier post. You don't have the information necessary to make that conclusion. Schematically he's delegating, yes. That's literally all you know regarding Philbin.

The article that said that also says it's broken down among staff members(which is generally how NFL teams do it). More realistically, given the rest of what is discussed there Philbin contributed on a level in line with the rest of the staff and his job was to put the information together. Sorta like the spell-checking powerpoints thing.

It's not the same thing, though, it's just somewhat related.

That's great. And I'll give him credit for that.

But was he, or was he not forced to? If he had his way, who would be the Offensive coordinator and OL coach?

He can run practices well, and I'm sure he's great on the scheduling/logistics issues and other assistant head coaching stuff.

If you were to grade him as a motivator, as a schematic guy, as an on-the-field decision maker, etc. and so on I'm not sure you are left with someone who really should be an NFL head coach.

Then Olivadatti is an indictment of Shula. Wannidiot is an indictment of Johnson.

Many coaches have coordinator blindness. As long as they get along, you won't see many coaches jettison their coordinators unless they are forced to, ESPECIALLY when those coordinators are former mentors to the HC.

Philbin brought in a man who was a successful HC in the NFL whom he trusted to help him transition into being a HC for the first time, months after his son died. We need to stop acting like this was the most egregious thing he ever did and colored his entire future. Most of you are so gung ho in harping on this that you neglect to realize he brought in Lazor. He brought in Benton.
