He probably just threw the tape in the same incinerator as the Spygate tapes. Worked then why not try it again? Ive always hated that prick since Spygate and the slap on the wrist he gave the Pats.

 

My point exactly. Most agree that Rice should have gotten more..but he didnt. More importantly though is it caused the NFL to take a harsher stand from now on. She got knocked out..how the **** you think she got knocked out. To be honest..I imagined it worse. His wife has repeatedly asked to be allowed to get on we with their lives..but the media refuses. They do this not as a public service..but to generate revenue. They dont care about up domestic violence.they care about clicks and commercials. If they didnt..then they should donate any revenue generated as a result of this to a battered womans fund or a shelter.

As for Roger, the guy is trying to lead as though he lives in a different era. A couple of decades ago, you could get away with lying and trying to suppress information. Today, information is pretty much uncontainable. If you are leading a large organization, you need to be up front and you need to be out in front, i.e. tell the truth before it gets out. Roger is lying, reacting and trying to do the impossible: hide information in an age when information is everywhere instantly.

I am amazed that the NFL thought the video wasn't going to come out. I assumed since day 1 that the NFL had seen the whole thing and that it was only a matter of time until everybody saw the whole thing. I guess $44 million a year doesn't get you much of an executive these days.

 

It's crazy that people really don't like Roger Goodell AND his salary. People really expect a CEO of a billion+ dollar company to make 250k and ride coach. A lot of CEOs make equal or more than Roger Goodell before we even get to shares they are given as well. 44 million is about right for a CEO of a company of the NFL's valuation. If you don't like Roger's salary...you don't like how much CEOs get paid...period. That's something you should take up with Big Business. Then people say, "Well Roger shouldnt make more than JJ Watt." Why shouldn't he? You think Steve Jobs didn't make more than his lead software engineers and hardware guys? Balmer got paid more than anyone at Microsoft regardless of what they develop. I really just don't get it. If you don't like rich people...just say you don't like rich people, but sheesh.

 

Abusive relationships are the toughest to quit, apparently. They went from engaged to married right after this thing started to blow up, so I just made an assumption. Good luck to the Rices, though.

Well...to be fair..Goddell cant say to Payton..your suspended for a year with no pay because you were head coach and should have known your coaches were paying for hits..and not hold himself to the same standard.

I wasn't trying to comment on how much the salary is so much as I was commenting on how stupid Goodell is. If you disagree, please defend Roger and don't worry about defending big business and rich people; they're doing just fine.

 

They are..but theres also no evidence hes ever done this before. They both went at each other. Who knows what led up to this..it doesnt make what he did right...but it doesnt mean she doesnt love him..or their lives cant move forward

The incident happened in New Jersey, so Maryland law wouldn't matter. And they don't need to get married because this is Ray's first criminal offense....he's not going to see jailtime especially if she's not pressing charges.

 

I'm glad noted wife beater James Harrison feels like the moral grounds here to talk about someone who just covers up other peoples crime.

 

TBH, I think it all depends on how you view Goodell. My personal take on it is, none of these big decisions are made in a vacuum. I don't think for one minute that Goodell suspended Payton before Bobby K and Jerruh could chime in. Not for a second. I don't believe Irsay was suspended without the rest of the country club knowing that they are now opened to suspensions. Everything Goodell does that is high level is blessed. I find it hard to believe that micro managers like Jerry Jones who won't even hire a real GM lets Goodell drive the whole ship without being in his hip pocket. I say that to say, Goodell is good at what he does. He's a kevlar vest for ownership. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of these decision aren't even his ideas. But he's good at what he does and just look around...who are we mad at? Who are the pitch forks drawn at? It's not ownership. Goodell is excellent at what he does and is worth every penny. All ownership has to do is decide the kevlar vest has too many holes in it and toss it to the side, and find a new vest. The people will be appeased and ownership can go back to being racists, bigots, and misogynists. People really think that Goodell sits in a room by himself in front of a box of cuban cigars with his feet kicked up and comes up with this crap all by himself.

And guess what.....it only costs them 44 million bucks.

Team execs are always paranoid about NFL favoring some teams/owners over others, heard a couple tonight wonder about Ravens favoritism.

I wonder what kinda deal Goodell gave the Ravens, "Look Balt, we boned it, so we gotta cover it...cut him...we'll suspend him...and we'll get your back later on with special consideration" etc etc.

 

Ray Rice's attorneys had the tape. In a prosecution, defense attorneys must be given all the evidence against the accused.

EVERY first year law student knows this. Anyone who saw "My Cousin Vinny" knows this.

 

Boy this sh*t's really piling up on The Emperor...I wonder if we'll see any owners start to balk a little.

 

It is going to take a lot and boycotting has been pretty successfully drummed out of the American consciousness.

 

Sponsors aren't going to pull advertising. The political statement wouldn't out benefit the actual advertising.

How can Goodell say their evidence was ambiguous? Everyone saw her out cold. He said he hit her. Before this new tape came out. I hit her..shes knocked out.

Kinda clear to me..but what do I know.

 

Goodell will go Eric Holder on us and stick around till the end. Doubt he gets ousted over this.

 

He said he smacked her and she hit her head on something that knocked her out.

 

And that tape was burned before he even got a look at it.

 

So Thursday Night Football is going to open with Rihanna as the featured performing artist.

That's not a joke, it's a thing that is scheduled to occur.

 

Mixed feelings (I'd call it negative towards Goodell though)

1) Don't want to rush to judgement in case someone in the NFL didn't actually pass the video along to Goodell. It's possible he hadn't seen it, though that's unlikely. Still, I didn't think the **** that went on with Incognito behind the scenes was likely either.

2) Goodell is a lawyer and you cannot trust most lawyers.

3) What makes me mad is the hypocrisy. Goodell says one of the most important things in his life is the book "Profiles in Courage" that his Dad loved. It's JFK's compliation of examples of real life stories of leaders doing the RIGHt THING even when it was hard and cost them personally. Roger says he always looks at it to remind himself to be that way. Well, he clearly has not been looking at it in awhile.

 

As I said in the club. I wonder what Roger did to piss off Frank Underwood.
