The NFL is not like other businesses. For example they have a college draft, they've been given special dispensation.

Can overcomplicate this if you want but essentially we've had de facto public confirmation that Dion Jordan tested positive for amphetamines, just like Orlando Scandrick and Wes Welker, which will now go on the drug policy because the way you test positive for amphetamines is by taking drugs that are tainted with them such as molly.

Jordan's story had been that he took supplements that were tainted. That story is pure BS.

On the other hand, I will say that if Reshad Jones is not covered right along side Jordan, then he deserves a break. I had previously been told under confidence that both of them did the same thing but that may not be true after all.

There is a problem with supplements being tainted with amphetamines. It is a very unregulated industry.

Hell we dont know that these guys arent doing crystal meth however unlikely, or aderall (generic name: mixed amphetamine). When i hear a guy gets popped for amphetamine, i dont go straight to MDMA or GNC supplements, although it is a possibility. Its just as possible they were doing actual speed (meth, aderall, etc...), which could give an edge.

    http://www.si.com/nfl/2014/09/12/cleveland-browns-josh-gordon-suspension-drug-policy

"Gordon, 23, was suspended for the entire 2014 season for a repeat violation of the NFL's substance abuse policy after a failed a drug test earlier this year. He appealed the suspension, but it was upheld by the NFL in late August.

The new drug policy will reportedly immediately reinstate several players whose positive tests arose as a result of stricter measures under the old policy, including Denver Broncos wide receiver Wes Welker, Dallas Cowboys cornerback Orlando Scandrick and Miami Dolphins defensive end Dion Jordan, among others."

    Could be good news.

I don't get how Gordon is eligible for a reduced suspension but not for it to be completely overturned.

If they apply the new rules, he would never have tested positive.

If they apply the old rules, he's gone for a year.

Chris Mortensen @mortreport 2m Players who will be immediately reinstated upon expected approval of revised drug policy, can play this weekend, per sources. @ESPNNFL

So Jordan could be activated for the Bills if this thing gets done!

Once player reps vote within hour or so, names of those reinstated players will be made public. In double-digits not expected to exceed 20

Josh Gordon tested positive during the '2013 football year'.
Welker, Jordan, Scandrick and the rest tested positive during the '2014 football year'.

The new drug program will be retroactive for the start of the '2014 football year', so Gordon's doesn't apply.
Also Gordon still faces 2 game suspension for DUI.

Sure, that's my point I guess. He was suspended under the 2013 league year rules. So how does the change allow for him to get a reduction in his suspension?

Possibly a meet in the middle kind of agreement. NFL gets their discipline, Gordon gets to play in 2014. If the NFLPA had any power, he'd be reinstated immediately.

Yeah, seems like a tough deal for Gordon. He doesn't get the immediate return of Welker et al, but also is subject to the 2 games for DUI if and when he gets convicted. The timing just sucks for him I guess.

If anyone still cares, the rationale I've seen about this seems to make some kind of sense.

He gets a pass on the failed test, but the DUI violated part of his Stage 3 treatment programme and therefore he gets moved to Stage 4. That carries a ten game ban under the new deal.

Reshad would have been the big help in this game, not Dion. A thumper to help attack their run game. Let's hope we get then back for the Cheifs.

I think with the dearth of good Linebackers the team has right now, having Dion Jordan on the team will be very helpful.

This 5-2 that was used after Ellerbe and Misi went down is just really a modified 3-4. Faster DE's like Jordan only be helpful because he may be asked to drop into coverage on occasion.

There are similarities to a 3-4 however the major difference is that the two DTs are lined up in the three technique. A one-gap 3-4 can be punctured up the middle. This one essentially eliminates the middle of the field. Wake/Vernon/Shelby/Jordan are too strong to be beaten easily on the outside. A 3-4 on the other hand would force one of the LBs to take on interior linemen quite often. An additional note I hadn't realized about the 5-2 is that it's tough for the OTs to help out on the interior pass rushers if the outside guys decide to drop into coverage. In the 3-4, one of the tackles is almost always going to face a 3-4 DE.

In this one you could literally have both DEs drop into coverage, the two DTs shoot the three technique gap and your NT provide pressure up the middle. Essentially you've occupied all five blockers using three guys. You could easily send the Mike on a delayed blitz.

It's not a 5-2 at all... don't let dumb comments by Omar fool you. It varies between a 1-gap 3-4 and a 4-3 Under...

Jordan and Jones officially still suspended, which means that they were both almost certainly busted for PEDs.

They can come back after the London trip. Team should be stronger after the bye.

    Actually I think it is.....

Hes calling it a 5-2 alignment.....3 Defensive tackles...2 Defensive Ends.

"In American football, the 5–2 defense is a defensive alignment consisting of five down linemen and two linebackers."

Which is exactly what they ran out with...correct?

It's very possible that during the negotiations the earlier offer that the NFLPA voted for included Jordan and Jones, and the counter offer from the league does not.

It also could very well mean that they were both tested before the 2014 league year began (March 11th if my memory serves me)... too much assumption here....

  38. vt_dolfan

Which makes more sense...Jordan said he tested positive for Amphetamines. If he had been tested after the new league year...it would be classified as substance abuse.

Thats at least how I understand things.....not saying its right...just how it seems to me

No... B/c when they were in a 1-gap 3-4, Wake and Vernon were not playing defensive end... they were playing outside linebacker. And when in the 4-3 Under... either Starks was playing DE with Wake at OLB, or Odrick was playing DE with Vernon at OLB (pending on the strength of the offense's formation).
