So, as far as I know, here are the major injuries and vacancies we are dealing with after the Week 2 loss: RB Moreno RG Smith C Pouncey TE Clay RE Jordan DT Starks LB Ellerbe LB Wheeler LB Misi FS Jones By my count, that is 9 starters out or playing injured....going into Week 3. I know Starks and Wheeler played, but they were still injured and ineffective. Also, Clay is still clearly not 100%. It is very hard to win in the NFL with this many starters out. It will be interesting to see if the coaching staff can get their stuff together, provide leadership, and steer this team through this injury storm. What do you think?
I've said this before. This season is not about the record. Injuries happen and can cripple you, and so can playing a bunch of young guys in key positions like we did today. This season is about building consistency, from coaches first, Lazor being a rookie, and then from players as well, and finally as a team. Luckily for us, the injuries are mostly to vets, and we do not need to see consistency from them individually, but they are needed to to build the team consistency. The offensive coaching failed today. Lazor failed. Failed at the most important task this season, which is to coach consistenly. We established the run last week, and had the balanced offense with inside running. This week we hardly ran the ball. We did not establish it from the get go. We had an unbalanced offense, 53 passing attempts to 21 runs. For the sake of building consistency, roles for players, winning, building a system, evaluating, we cannot have arrogant selfish playcalling that goes up and down like it did the last two games. Offensive coaching must get better quickly, to use Lazor's word, and do what is in the best interest of the team this season, which is to build consistency. This was the biggest fail and disappointment today.
