Due to our injuries at the RB position...hypothetically speaking, If he won his appeal and was able to play right away, would you want us to sign Ray Rice?
I believe everyone deserves a 2nd chance once he or she suffers the consequences for their actions. Rice needs to sit out far more than two games for his actions and probably the entire season. So no, I really wouldn't have any interest in the Dolphins signing him this season at all.
Coach Grouper-mouth won't be able to handle the thought of controversy. That would require uncomfortable conversations and feelings. So, no. Coach Grouper-mouth would nix it with a shrug and head-toss.
My issue with Rice is this. Why should his wife be punished? She's losing a source of income because she got decked. What Rice needs isnt any suspension. Its intense anger management.
At the time of the incident, they weren't married. Not a divorce attorney, but I think that makes a difference?
Maybe, but what I'm trying to say is that now his wife has to suffer twice. Physically and financially. Rice obviously deserved a suspension but now his career has been threatened which impacts her as well.
I'm not sure how his wife is being punished. She married him for better or worse and not because he was an NFL football player. They are both free to go out and get jobs just like everyone else and enjoy their married life. The fact is that Rice really has regressed as a RB in the NFL and he probably only had one or two years at most left in the NFL. I do agree though that he needs to attend an anger management course. This should happen whether he he ever plays another game in the NFL or not.
She gets punched. She loses a source of income. Maybe its fair because you can't let Rice get away with his actions, but I think a 4 game suspension and required anger management classes would have been more appropriate. I agree though about his decline and the fact that he was degrading as a HB. Hes a small HB with a boatload of touches. It piles up.
If she had been married to him prior to this incident, I could understand your reasoning. Yet she married him after he had knocked her out. So it isn't like she can now claim that she shouldn't be penalized for his actions. Also reports are that she hit him prior to him knocking her out. If this is true, she isn't without some fault in this incident. That being stated, I still blame Rice for his actions entirely because even if she did hit him first, that was no excuse for Rice to hit her.
Too much baggage for such little talent. On the other hand if Adrian Petersen would become available .......................
Good player, would improve the team...but too much of a PR disaster so from a business point of view it will not happen.
Couldn't you make this argument for any domestic violence case where the aggressor is also the bread winner?
He's going to play again in this league. I don't know when, but he will play. He's appealing the indefinite suspension apparently, so he's likely to play again. Hell, if Dante Stallworth can get loaded, drive around and kill someone and come back to play, I'm sure Ray Rice will unless the NFL really tries to set an example and a new code of player conduct and chooses not to allow him back. Then you almost need to do the same with Peterson though. They wont though, too much star power. Whether we agree with it or not, both will play in this league again. Very very soon. (obviously with Peterson likely to play next week)
Let's go ahead and ignore the elephant in the room and move on to a football question: What about his 3.1 yards per carry last season says he has anything left in the tank? The guy has been done as an NFL running back for a while now. We may as well bring back Cecil Collins while we're at it.
I had him in Fantasy in 2012, and he was a consistent point getter. He, Doug Martin and Spiller were my 3 main backs that year and I led my league in points scored, largely because of all 3 of them. Last year, he really fell off though. He went from 257-1143-4.4-9, in 2012, to 214-660-3.1-4 in 2013. As a receiver, he went from 69-566-8.2-1 with 8.9 YAC avg in 2012, to 58-321-5.5-0 with 6.3 YAC avg in 2013. That is a terrible drop in production.
Well, la-dee-frigging-da. If a little woman her size hit old me, I would not be able to tell it from a skeeter bite. How much more a finely tuned young pro athlete? I suspect there was a good chance liquor was involved that evening, but even so it's not like he had to protect himself from a mortal threat, like if maybe one of those MMA women hit him or something.
