BS. There were a LOT of people who questioned his ability to play DE in the NFL and a LOT of people who thought the Dolphins had a bigger need at O line.

Ireland's last draft is a ****ing nightmare. No wonder he's still unemployed.

I know you never wanted to draft him...but this isn't about that. This is about everyone here who told me "after he gets in the weight room he'll be fine!" ...everyone who just assumed he was going to take this giant leap from year 1 to year 2. a lot of players improve, but it's extremely rare to go from downright horrible as a rookie to good in one year. CK and I were one of a very few who doubted him going from literally one of the worst tackles in the entire league to even decent status in just one offseason. But everyone else thought he'd take that step, that lack of strength was his only issue. Ireland sure thought he'd take that step (although I can't say he had 100% faith in him on the left side cuz he made Jake Long an offer, he made Bryant McKinnie an offer, and he almost traded for Brandon Albert.)

When people say this it clarifies their lack of common sense. So you don't have a job? You don't pay taxes? You don't hand the cashier the money when paying for your Big Mac? Plenty of people tell you what to do everyday son, and you obey.

Like Marshall, Ricky, and Bess, I think this kid needs help. There's more than a lack of judgement and discipline going on. And I think his career and more importantly, his life can be changed and end up productive. As a fan, I am disappointed by this, but there is more going on here.

Of course its serious. You honestly don't think we have a leadership problem? Is your post serious, I mean there is being a homer then there is just living in lala land, how many issues have to pop up with our players and how many big games do we have lose, how many young players can we not develop, how many draft picks can we waste until we start questioning leadership? You think if we had a really strong infrastructure that maybe this might not have happened to Jordan or perhaps we might have not drafted him at all? I mean seriously, how can anyone be even questioning the notion that we have leadership issues?

I had no idea how he would do after we drafted but after watching him during his rookie year I thought he was a complete waste of a draft pick, I mean he looked so bad it was scary. I dont know why anyone was actually optimistic about him going into his second year. I kinda shocked he's still in the league, maybe it was our coaching staff, maybe he will get better in San Francisco.

If Jordan isn't playing on the field by now, in his second year, in which he's already behind from last year's late start and now the suspensions, he's only going to get further behind. Not to mention he hasn't shown anything special in the little bit of work he has put in. In addition, he's a player without a position. He's got bust written all over him. It didn't make sense when we drafted him and now we're paying for this bad decision. If you can't see Jordan is on a one way ticket to bustville, then yes, that's blatant homerism. I mean after all this, do we seriously think he's ever going to develop into something useful?

Leadership has nothing to do with this. At all. Some guys make mistakes and some guys have issues that they need to correct themselves. This kind of thing literally happens everywhere. Every sports team, every walk of life. It's not a leadership issue, it's demons. Everyone has them and sometimes they aren't easy to control. The Seahawks had how many players suspended last year? A handful?

Just wow, Dio is going through it, not sure what his issue is, he is making a serious problem for his career.

What does interest me about this is whether it is South Beach/Miami lifestyle, or his circle of "old friends", one is solvable, the other a bit more thorny

I posted a thread awhile back about trading Jordan for Alex Boone and a 3rd and 6th round pick and I was summarily crucified for the suggestion.

Now it appears Jordan may be worthless and Dallas Thomas is starting again.

I agree with this. Hes a solid STs guys. He's a Jason Trusnick with more speed. We have to forget that we traded up to get him...water under the proverbial bridge now. He is a limited player with a limited skill set but very good at what he can do (chase down kicks).

Going forward, he needs to know that hes a league minimum guy, because hes a piss test away from being Josh Gordon, so we will never put him in our long term plans. But I have no problem sticking by him to let him help cover kicks. God knows we need it.

Perhaps I am missing something. I am not a scout, just a fan. But I don't know where all of this, "be the player you could be" talk is coming from, other than his draft status. He has never dominated...not in preseason, against the scrubs even, surely not in the regular season. McCain and Mike Thomas have made more splash plays than this guy.

To the extent that I care about him as a person (not being crude, but I care about him as much as I care about a plumber in Miami), sure, I hope he gets his life straight. That is what is important. But "come on, show the world the inner superstar" talk to me is folly. There IS NO SUPERSTAR in Dion Jordan. He's just a guy that can run fast. And who I am sure wishes he was drafted by Denver.

Not trying to troll...just asking, why does he deserve the fans support? McCain deserves fan support, Michael Thomas deserves fan support, Damian Williams deserves fans support. Why does Dion? As a person, yeah, ok, whatever. I support everyone everywhere to have a good life. As a football fan, to hell with someone who had it served up to him on a silver platter and smoked it away. He should have gotten help to kick this habit long ago, if his dream was to play in the NFL.

I care about him as much as he cared about all the Fins fans when he was smoking and got suspended. IMO, we (fans) don't owe him anything.

He's a Miami Dolphin. He deserves your support until he's released/traded. He's probably hooked on Molly or something. Party drugs don't have the loser heroin in an alley effect, so drug testing is what drives it home that he has a problem. Like Mary, it's hard to know when u have a problem.

Do we no longer have a Dir. Of Player whatever who is essentially everyone's handler?

The cost of a first round pick, plus the second rounder we gave to trade up to get him, are sunk costs. That particular mistake is behind us. There's nothing we can do to get those picks back, or to get out of the cap hit we will take if we cut him.

Jordan's value is now his (presently minimal) trade value and whatever he can do to help the team. Forget all the expectations. When he serves out his suspension, put him wherever he can contribute more than everyone else on the roster can at the same spot. If there's no such place, take the hit, wish him the best, and move on.

Your missing the point. The PED rules changed so Jordan had his suspension lifted as a result of the new deal with the players. But, he then tested positive for Substance Abuse that led to an additional 4 game suspension. I think, had he not had the substance abuse charge, he'd be back on the roster now.

I bet you supported Brandon Marshall or Randy McMichael when they caught touchdown passes. You're way too consumed to social media reaction.

Dion Jordan's trade value just went all the way down, all we can hope for is that he turns it around, because no one will offer more than a 5th round pick for the guy now. So yes, he needs the support from his fans to turn this thing around.

I get that it sucks that he is suspended until October, but why all the talk of trading for low value or cutting him? Last year he was playing injured, but showed a couple flashes. This year has been one big bump in the road, but he still will have 2/3s of the season to try and redeem this year. Why is he out of chances?

So you are saying that it is better to be critical and arrogant and stay with the popular views on things than to think a little deeper with some insight and stray away from the sheepfold. Is that it?

As far as what I was I was saying......I was saying I was right about Jordan and you, and those who follow your close minded way of thinking were wrong, as usual.

Neither DJ or Ricky did anything wrong. They made a 100% acceptable choice with their body knowing the consequences. Society needs to stop telling people what is acceptable to do with their own body when it isn't harming anyone else.

I blame the NFL and society, not Dion.

Under the new rules, its implied he had to attempt to manipulate the testing to equal 6 games though.

    http://www.nflevolution.com/article/...p3000000396175

Key revisions to the program on performance enhancing substances are:
    * HGH testing will be fully implemented this season. Information on testing procedures will be sent to clubs and players within the week, and testing should begin by the end of this month.

    * Appeals of positive tests in the performance enhancing drug programs (including HGH) will be heard by third-party arbitrators jointly selected and retained by the NFL and NFLPA. Appeals will be processed more expeditiously under improved rules and procedures.

    * Discipline for violations of the performance enhancing drug policy (including for HGH) will be modified.
-- A first violation will result in a suspension without pay of up to six games depending on the nature of the violation. Use of a diuretic or masking agent will result in a suspension without pay of two games. Use of a steroid, stimulant, HGH or other banned substance will result in a suspension without pay of four games. Evidence of an attempt to manipulate a test will result in a suspension without pay of six games.
-- A second violation of the steroid policy will result in a suspension without pay of 10 games.
-- A third violation will result in banishment for a minimum of two years.
-- Players who test positive for banned stimulants in the off-season will no longer be suspended. Instead, the player will be referred to the substance abuse program. Players who test positive for banned stimulants during the season will continue to be suspended without pay for four games.

    * In cases involving discipline for violations other than positive tests (for example, a violation of law), the Commissioner will retain his current disciplinary authority. A player will have a right of appeal based on due process issues or a claim of disparate punishment. This appeal will be heard by a member of the existing CBA Appeals Panel.

    *******************************************************

otherwise it would still have been the same 4 (since his first suspension was lifted) but this 2nd suspension (treated as 1st time as 2nd time would have been 10 games) couldn't equal 6 unless he attempted to manipulate the results?

    In theory, I totally agree.

However, as it impacts a person's employment, in which they've signed an agreement to conduct themselves in a particular way, it's HIS fault if he chooses to do drugs, negatively impacting his bottom-line and opinions of him throughout the sports world. Nobody MADE him accept his draft and enter the NFL.

That said...I hope he gets straight and moves on to be a solid NFL player, if that's what he REALLY wants to do.

That would be for PED violation. Jordan has two different categories. First was for PEDs (reduced to two games).

This is different. He is suspended for "Substance Abuse" - that's a different category than PEDs under their new policy. He had the two games for PED. Now he has four for Substance Abuse (e.g., drugs like marijuana, cocaine, etc.).

And, it took multiple violations for a suspension as well as higher thresholds for substance abuse (e.g., Marijuana).

    http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000397242/article/dion-jordan-suspended-4-games-for-substance-abuse

The video on this link is informative.

And Jordan has checked himself into rehab - so it is likely this is not a PED violation but perhaps a marijuana or cocaine, etc. .
