he probably should be playing more, he's our most physical receiver and Hartline, Gibson, and Landry haven't done much of anything so far.

This passing offense sucks right now, have a perfectly good strong wide receiver with great hands that can't get in the action because the Qb is playing like sh"'

I got an idea, whoever drops a stinking ball loses 5 reps on the field, next guy moves up...freakin Hartline has been dropping passes since preseason..

Gibson should be playing more based on what he did last year. Rishard Matthews has a right to be unhappy based on how he did in relief of Gibson last year. And Landry, while talented, is a guy who should not have been drafted given the depth at the position and other needs. Now you have a team that is playing a young guy too much to justify his draft position while leaving a TD making guy like Gibson (who I was wrong on BTW), and a young up and comer like Matthews not getting enough playing time. Just more mismanagement of player personnel that's becoming all too familiar with this coach in my humble opinion.

while I agree Gibson should be getting more playing time, I don't agree that you don't draft a WR given our depth. We have a bunch of #2's at WR. You draft a player if you think he can become a #1. I don't think Landry's a #1 either, hence our problem. We have Wallace who is playing OK and 4 #2's.

Such is the legacy of Ireland. We've been stocked with #2 type WRs for a long time. When we've brought in a #1 it hasn't worked out so far (Marshall/Wallace)

Actually that's not just about Ireland. I'm not trying to excuse him(i'll never do that) but those kinda problem existed for quite long time. We had Chris Chambers, Marty Booker, David Boston, Ted Ginn.jr and Devone Bess etc...And i believe none of these guys are the #1 type wideout but #2 or so.

Matthews makes plays, and deserves more opportunities. I'm a Hartline fan too, but he's basically a possession receiver in an offense that needs playmakers.

Just thinking ahead to next season, Jarvis Landry is a lock, but other than that...I personally think Rishard Matthews fits this offense, and I'm interested to see what they do with Mike Wallace if he keeps upping his play and keeps it consistent. I could do without both Hartline and Gibson though.

I wouldn't say these guys are #2s. Hartline maybe production wise the last few years but certainly not for most legitimate offenses. Honestly I like Hartline but he's a terrible fit for this offense…he offers no RAC and tries to body catch balls in traffic. I think we would be better off starting Matthews on the outside opposite Wallace…but thats not going to happen.

Well...I seem to recall they TRIED to trade Matthews before the season started, but they didn't get what they wanted.

Gibson I'd like to see more of because he was money for us last year. All he does is catch 1sts and TDs...what's not to like?

Everybody from Ross on down in the organization is in love with Landry...I don't expect his PT to go down any unless he really rooks it up bad.

Hartline, to this point this year, hasn't shown he deserves more PT than these three guys IMHO. Drop % too high.

Good post. This sort of underpins my biggest fear of what will happen to Miami. I think that by the time they start getting guys like Mike Pouncey, Reshad Jones, Knowshon Moreno, Koa Misi...maybe Dion Jordan...back they'll start to pick it up as a team. But you're going to go through some growing pains trying to figure out who fits Bill Lazor's offense and I think it spells an 8-8 record, or thereabouts. Does Mr. Ross think, yet again, ooh, we're close so everyone stays? Does he, also yet again, remove Joe Philbin but keep Dennis Hickey in place - his classic half-measure? Or does he clean house? And, unless Miami gets a 1st year Jim Harbaugh with the 49ers type of coach and season, you're probably still treading water finding out what you really have.

IMO, there's already dead weight on this roster - Daniel Thomas, Jason Fox, Jonathan Freeny, and dead weight contracts - Ellerbe, probably Wheeler, Hartline (let's face it), and probably Mike Wallace. You're also looking at possibly extending Mike Pouncey, Jared Odrick, Knowshon Moreno, and Charles Clay. I'm excluding Tannehill until his play warrants an extension.

All of those things, just surface level mind you, are somewhat daunting and I do not trust this coaching staff to get all of that right...not sure what to think about Dennis Hickey just yet as I liked what he was doing until Daniel Thomas reentered the building.

You're right, the problems existed before jeffy but he did a masterful job of adding to them. I think the main argument is about acquiring #1 WRs and that means drafting them so Booker & the roided Boston don't apply.

CC had his frustrating moments but I would take him in his prime over ANY Wr on our current roster. 11 TDs in two different seasons, contorting his body always giving effort to make awful QBs look competent.

I would be unhappy too. Why is Hartline on the field? He's probably the 5th best playmaker in the WR group.

Green Bay makes things work with a bunch of solid #2 WRs. That's what their system is based on, but the difference is the play at QB. If Tannehill were slinging it right now, there would be enough balls to go around and these guys would be happier.

It goes hand-in-hand. None of Miami's receivers are very good route runners. Ryan Tannehill isn't as accurate as he should be.

Wouldn't say none...but when the only one running tight/clean routes is the rookie, then there's definitely issues.

It's the kind of situation that needs to be tabled for this season, I think. Philbin already had his issues with Matthews, I don't trust him to make anything close to a good decision in this area and I'd love to see a different coaching staff have an opportunity to work it out.

I think the fact the receivers you mentioned haven't done much so far this year has more to do with the play of Tannehill than it does with any of these WR's.

I wouldn't have any problem with Hickey trading Matthews if he can get a mid round draft pick for him. He obviously is the fifth WR on the roster right now and his playing time will continue to be very limited unless one of the WR's in front of him are injured.

Seriously lol Everyone keeps saying because of chemistry... I don't see this amazing chemistry. The comparisons to Jordy Nelson is so off and only used by those trying to defend that ridiculous contract he got. Jordy is a freaking playmaker, I want to see the day that Hartline makes a play like Jordy did last week on his GW TD against the Jets. It won't ever happen. I also know Jordy is much faster off the snap and a better route runner. Hartline might have him beat on 40 speed but not on game speed.

and for some unknown reason, Hartline still falls to much after catching passes...

Has anyone figured out why? and it's not all on RT...

Matthews should make the most of the opportunities he is getting so that the coaches put him out there more. He had a rough game last week IMO. I think he's a bit like a running back, in that he gets better with more and more reps. He'll wear a defense down.

Landry is going to be better than both Gibson and Matthews (Matthews is extremely overrated) so it most certainly was the right choice. Hartline should be the odd man out, he doesn't fit this offense.

I think our passing offense is suffering overall, not just Matthews, I don't think he's played well enough to take reps from the other guys. Hartline has been our leading receiver for a lot of years so obviously he gets the benefit of the doubt from the coaching staff after TWO games so far.

If we don't make the playoffs , do you keep Philbin?

Time to address the HC properly imo , just seems inevitable that he gets replaced , why flounder longer than needed? Much like it took FAR too long to make the decision on Ireland.
