I've been disappointed with his play the past couple years but vs KC he was as decisive and physical as I've ever seen him in the NFL. Hopefully he keeps it up bc the blocking should continue to be good or even better considering the opponents he will face over the next few weeks. Honorable mention to Dallas Thomas, he stepped in and did OK, not great, but good enough. When 51 gets back in there, with 71 and 70 outside, the OL could really be a team strength.
Yeah Miller was awesome Sunday. 15 carries, 108 yards. multiple catches out of the backfield. Great game.
I know we mock Hartline for his well-deserved "help, I've fallen and can get YAC" routine. But anyone else notice that Miller ends nearly every run where he makes it into the secondary with zero-movement to juke the last defender (often a Safety) and instead runs his last 4-5 yards straight into the safety? Can he atleast one-time try to mix it up and try to avoid the contact and pick a side to try to juke and stiff arm, etc?
Indeed. He does it every time LOL. I think his coaches/teammates will get in his ear about it, if they haven't already.
Even DThomas had a nice run and a big gain on a screen pass. When Moreno gets back we will have a nice rotation, run hard or not at all!!!
He can't, and that's why he'll never be great. He's good enough for now, but I can't wait till Moreno gets back (since they're not going to play Darkwa or Williams any more than they absolutely have to)
Cmon now, of course he can, he's just choosing not to for whatever reason. I believe that as his confidence grows he will start looking to go to the house, in the meantime 15-20 yd chunks in the run game ain't bad. Especially after last season...
I was hoping Moreno could point it out, and teach by showing Miller other options exist. I think there is still a chance once Moreno returns, but Moreno knows how to do it and even if tackled its on a slant where 1 or 2 additional yards at minimum are picked up by not trying to TRUCK the safety, and often you actually break the tackle for even more chunk yards by deflecting off the slanted tackle attempt.
The holes were there on Sunday. Miller is not a play maker. If you can drive a truck through it Miller can run through it. Thats about it.
He ran hard whether there was a huge hole or none at all. Put his shoulder right into Houston's chest just to get back to the LOS and took on Hali and Poe for a one yard gain very early in the game. O lineman respond to that kind of effort, defenders take notice too. It certainly seemed to pay dividends later on in the game. Unfortunately his carries were limited, while KC stuck to the run with 40+ attempts for 170+, that's how you lose games.
I agree. A couple times he was bracketed and didn't have a choice though. That said if he picks up 7 YPC and ends rubs by punishing the defense I'm not going to complain.
Miller should give this effort every week. That is what you should hope to expect from a starting RB.
The problem is he runs too fast to the point that he doesn't allow himself ability to cut or juke, etc. In the college game it worked because he would blow by defenders, but here the safeties are sounder tacklers and better athletes. It's definitely annoying though.
I'm not too fond of Miller at all. He goes down way too easily and almost never generates yards after contact. Knowshon Moreno showed what a good NFL back is capable of. Consistently gained yards after contact and wore down New Englands defense. And it seemed like the whole Miami team fed off that intensity.
