I see the Raiders left yesterday to go to England for the game so they could get used to the time difference, but the Phins are not leaving until Friday. I'm not sure who's call this is, but it smells to me. Our team never shows up ready to play as it is, now this.

    Well away from here
I like the Raiders idea better to be honest. I've made that trip several times and it takes more than a day to feel 'right'. Should have left today to be honest with you, get a practice or two in over there and then you're good to go. Now, I'm not so sure. I could see us being in a sleep walking state on game day.

Something tells me we lose this game this week. Badly.

Well the Raiders left early because they were at New England Sunday and weren't going to fly home before going all the way to England. So, it made sense for them to leave early.

But yes, I agree about leaving earlier. To only allow, what, 24-36 hours to handle a 6 hour time difference? Maybe this is something Philbin asked the players?

I think i read they are sticking to US time for the whole trip, so while its 6pm in the UK, the Dolphins will treat it as 1pm. Sounds like a dumb idea, meanwhile the Raiders are here, doing PR, expanding their fanbase, gaining support for Sunday while the Dolphins sit on their arse.

Forced to eat kippers for breakfast would convince me to stay in USA another day.:wink2:

Seriously do we have to microcriticize everything this team does .There may be a reasonable explanation .

It's a "home" game for the Raiders, so that makes sense...they essentially are losing a real home game in order to play in London, they should make the most of it.

You can take your adjustment on the front end or the backend. You still have to come back to the US. So if you go to UK and begin to adjust...when you get back for your US game you have another adjustment. Raiders even more so because they have the East Coast Adjust + UK Adjustment when they get back to Oakland.

I read that Philbin is trying to treat this as much like a normal "away" game as possible, with the only difference being that the flight to get there is 9 hours.

It makes some sense I suppose. If they were flying to Seattle that would be a 6 hour flight.

I doubt Philbin would make this decision without some sort of backing to it. Just because it's different from what you'd expect doesn't mean it's just picked out of a hat. For instance last year when he decided that the practice week would call for Thursdays off, Philbin made that decision based on the data from a special consulting company that installed RFID chips on players practice equipment which measured their workloads and exertion, etc...and that company determined for whatever reason that you would save the most injuries if you gave the players Thursdays off. Of course, this year they're now doing Mondays off like the Eagles do, so I guess they didn't feel like that Thursday thing worked out for them.

Even if you ultimately disagree with the research and decide it should be done another way, you should still acknowledge that there is most likely some research behind this decision.

I lived in England for three years and made the flight over from Florida (out of Miami and Ft Lauderdale airports) several times. Going over isn't the hard part, its coming back that takes more time to adjust (at least for me and the wife). The first time we made the trip, we were out until 10 for a going away dinner. Went to bed and woke up just fine the next morning with no issues.

philbin said they do this because they don´t want to break the routine of a regular game week in one of his pressers monday or tuesday, but guess what this is not a regular game week, you are traveling
10000 miles with a 6 hour time differential...its another idiotic move

How? Is there evidence that leaving for a London game on Thursday has a negative impact?

I'm not happy with Philbin either but this just seems like another excuse for fans to ***** about anything they can get their hands on.

You're right about the adjustment period, and you're probably right about the result of the game.

However, what if Tannehill plays the game in a dreamlike state and plays out of his mind because he's not thinking?

While I agree it's an excuse, f they do show up flat for the game and lose, then it could and probably should be used as another example of Philbin making a poor decision. The decision is definitely outside the norm.

Jet lag from leaving Thursday evening won't be the reason they lose. It'll be piss poor execution like it always is.

Assuming they lose of course... Hopefully they don't.

  28. its gonna make little difference when they get off the plane. The Raiders are due for a win and the Dolphins will accomidate them.

This week is a hell of a matchup to send to London.

It would raise the stakes a little bit if the loser were forced to relocate there and become the official London franchise, but I realize England didn't do anything to deserve that.

Considering we have 20 people on the injury report...I'd say the Raiders certainly have a shot. They were a Fat Man catching a floating chicken wing away from pushing the Patsies into OT at Foxborough last week...they're at least gritting it out.

Whereas the Raiders have been in London since Monday --- six days before they play the Dolphins --- the Dolphins will not travel to England until Thursday evening.
Philbin decided his team would be better served by having a normal practice week and flying to London at 5 p.m. Thursday.

The team will have a light practice on Friday in London.

“We are going to jump on the plane and feed them a big meal,” Philbin said. “Hopefully, they’ll sleep, get to London and make it a normal Friday. That was the thought process.”

Philbin sought input from assistant coaches Mark Duffner and Jack Bicknell, who worked for teams (Jacksonville, Pittsburgh) that played in London last season.

“We talked to other teams, and we came to a conclusion that this was the best way for us to prepare for this game,” Philbin said.

Not sure how you can claim it's a valid excuse and then say it should be used against Philbin as another example?

It's either one or the other, either it's the team needs to be ready to play because they wanted to keep their normal schedule OR it's a bad decision all around, made by coaches or players, and should Miami lose, it's another example of poor decision making from the assistant to the Traveling Secretary, otherwise known as our HC, Joe Philbin...

A little Seinfeld joke there, but still, it's either or here. For me, it's a mistake leaving this late.

Miami’s adrenaline should get team through, but Raiders coach Dennis Allen said his team took until today to seem energized since arriving.

It's easy to see. Criticizing his tactic BEFORE we see whether it works or not...is just senseless criticism. It could work, or it could not work. We don't know. We know it's an unusual tactic, but that doesn't automatically = stupid. But if they show up flat while the Raiders play well and win, then that'll be a pretty good indication that it was the wrong thing to do, that it was unusual AND wrong and pretty much Philbin outsmarting himself. However if it works, if Miami plays brilliant football and the Raiders look flat...then he should probably be praised for figuring out the right course of action in a difficult situation.
