Has a bad coach, ever developed a good or great QB?

It's like anything else. It's a system. Both can affect one another. What's your proof that those qbs couldn't have gone somewhere else and been just as good with a bad coach? There is none. This is an exercise in futility basically.

Is a below average QB any better because his HC hides his flaws or do we just remember them more fondly? Shula had Woodley, Parcels had Hostetler and Cowher had Stewart. None of these guys were quality QBs and most likely would have vanished into NFL obscurity had they been on lesser teams.

Meanwhile guys like Fouts, Esiason, Rivers don't get their full due because they haven't benefited from a strong HC.

I think Tony Dungy is the perfect example of this. In my opinion Dungy wasn't ever really that good of a coach, but he was lucky enough to have one of the greatest QBs of all time who essentially doubled as an on-field offensive coordinator. Dungy was fired in Tampa because he couldn't ever build a good offense, but Peyton single-handedly erased that deficiency. But even now when you look back on that Colts team, and how many amazing players they had, I wonder how the heck they didn't win 2-3 rings.

Carson Palmer's play in the back half of 2013 wasn't subpar at all.

RE: Norv Turner, Wyche ect - just because a guy isn't a big winner as a head coach, that has no bearing at all on whether or not he is/was a great QB mentor or offensive mind. Some of the best coordinators and position coaches in league history never amounted to squat as head men. The skills don't always overlap.

Absolutely true but if the coach isn't winning the QB isn't either and both their reputations will take a hit for it.

I don't know if there's another coach in the League I'd take over Bruce Arians, honestly.

I always felt bad for Indy, when they had to take back Chuck Pagano after his cancer recovery. I would of kept Arians.

I will never, ever judge a QB by his team's success. Wins and losses, and especially championships, are a team stat and result.

I remember when me everyone I was chatting with on the Herald Site and Finheaven at the time wanted Aaron Rodgers during that draft. I remember the fans consensus was to take Brees as a free agent. Then there was a chance for Manning coming here a few years ago that evaporated. We were in the drivers seat for Luck and blew the suck for Luck sweepstakes. We've just made the wrong choice too often.

You will NEVER hear me say loosing to get a better pick is the right choice. Maybe that **** flies in NBA...but not in football.

Did those coaches really develop those QBs or are they all so good that they'd have made dozens of other coaches look good too?

Has a good coach ever failed to develop a QB who many thought was good, but just did not have the talent to be developed further?

I think that you could argue that Jimmy Johnson and later Cowboys coaches failed to get the most out of Troy Aikman due to their style of play and success in doing so. It worked and they won, but I don't think that Aikman was often asked to play up to his ability. You could definately argue that a variety of other coaches who specialized in defense or were very conservative held back their QBs because of a fear of the passing game.
