[h=3]Dan Marino: Not evaluating Philbin or Tannehill[/h] http://miamiherald.typepad.com/dolp...rino-not-evaluating-philbin-or-tannehill.html
Translation: I am evaluating them, but not in an official capacity and will tell Mr. Ross what I think if he asks me
Hmm. So the BR stuff was all just conjecture if not complete bull****. Boy, that clicks/credibility ratio should be pretty high.
Meaning stay out of the way, basically. The last thing the team needs is media reports of any kind on Marion's opinions of the current team. If he says something good he's just toeing the line, if he says something even remotely non-supportive then it'll be plastered on the front page. It's a no win for him and the whole organization.
This won't expose him. Nothing ever does. He did the exact same thing with the whole "team reaching out to Cowher and him declining because he's mad at them", when in the end it was supposedly a person from marino's camp in no official capacity reaching out to some other random person in Cowher's camp in no official capacity and the declination had nothing to do with anything Miami specific as Cowher has declined every team.
Perhaps. My translation more or less is, "This was NOT supposed to leak and I need to do whatever I can to squash it"
Based on what I know...and I know a fair bit...I will say this: 1. I don't know if Dan truly is tasked with evaluating Philbin, Tannehill and staff or not. I truly don't and I won't assume one way or another. 2. The Dolphins have uncharacteristically been WAAAAAY over the top in their protests toward any tidbit that suggests Dan is involving himself with the players or the evaluation of coaches. And that may be an understatement. They've practically gone nuclear at even the hint of a suggestion that could potentially imply that this is what he's doing. And yes, I do think #2 is pretty suspicious.
all it takes is one player to make your team good. look at Clemson vs the FSU the other night. Clemson puts in backup QB and they win game. Before that, they couldn't move the ball
I think he meant that Philbin would know what to do with a talent like Brees, while Sean Payton is in New Orleans screwing the pooch.
Dude, first of all, Clemson lost that game. Second of all, while I do agree that Brees is a great, if not elite, quarterback, a quarterback is not going to correct bad route running and stone hands.
Why would that be the case, when the fans, on whom the team depends for revenue, would conceivably want him to have that sort of role?
Yes you are Dan. Yes you are. And even if it's not your "job" you should be telling Ross anyway. Someone needs to get through.
Well to be fair Dan didn't set the world on fire as an analyst, so perhaps it would be wise not to rely on his evaluations.
