Mike Wallace has been fighting for yards. Every time he gets the ball it seems like. I have seen him lay into defenders and fight for yards.
ive been way down on the guy in the past, but hes been the best wr on the team no doubt. I still won't give him too much kudos though, 17 mill and all its kind of expected.
Very happy with the way Wallace played when given the ball today, but a bit suprised that they didn't even try one conventional pass to him today. I guess don't force it when other things are working.
3rd TD of the season already. He is playing with fire out there and it shows. He's not a perfect WR by any means…but he's the best we've got and its not really that close. As for other WRs I really want to see more Matthews. Gibson has the dropsies going on this year for whatever reason…he's normally been so sure handed its frustrating.
After seeing Knowshawn run with such heart and fight for every yard in week one, I've seen this in other players; especially Lamar Miller and Mike Wallace. It seems to be contagious. I've never seen Lamar run so hard, and Wallace's touchdown was as hard as I've ever seen him run after a catch. It was as if he knew he wanted that TD and wasn't going to be stopped.
Not just the effort, but the total awareness of position and body. Reaches his hand out at just the right moment to get the TD. Was just a fantastic play.
He's had two good games, two mixed games. He made a LOT of mistakes in that NE game that I believe will be white-washed in peoples' memories over time. And he made a bunch of mistakes against KC as well. But he played a genuinely good game against Buffalo and fumble notwithstanding, a genuinely decent game today against the Raiders. Three fumbles in four games isn't a good look. Three touchdowns in four games on the other hand, is a great look.
I can take the good with the bad, especially if we start taking more deep shots and he and the QB can stop shooting themselves in the foot on 'em.
You haven't seen him fight like he did today....I was absolutely speechless at his effort near the goal line. Awesome effort!
Its kinda sad that we basically think its special that he is actually fighting for yards, I mean we made the guy a top 5 paid WR and we are excited that he is actually trying to get extra yards and making plays......something tells me he is very aware that he will be looking for a new contract somewhere else next year.
Kinda hard to do when you got 3 more years after this one on contract. Unless he expects to get cut, and great play would kinda work against that, wouldn't it?
He's not Anquan Boldin so yeah we're not expecting him to lower his shoulder. Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk
Some are. He's not going to use his speed that much, so we may as well make him gain some weight. It has worked so far with Dion Jordan!
If the team tanks, and the FO and coaches are changed, then its very likely. But I like the effort and attitude from Wallace that we've seen, and he's been productive. If the team wins and he continues to produce, he'll be back, IMO.
I've been extremely critical of Wallace, but he's a new man this season. I don't even care he's made mistakes, with his speed all I wanted from him was to TRY HARDER. He is. Now....where are all the people that blasted me for wanting that by saying that simply isn't part of his game and is basically incapable of it?
What incentive would Wallace have to do that though? And his cap number is 5 mil cheaper next season than it is this one. Cutting him after the season only gains about 3 mil in cap room too.
I would think he might get cut, if we are making changes in the organization he would probably be asked to restructure or get cut. He makes too much money. I like the way he is playing but he is getting money in the same zip code as Julio Jones and AJ Green and Megatron....he's not in that category.
No one said he should be running anyone over, thats kind of a silly thing to take out of what I wrote. He should be making guys miss and fighting for yards, that seems reasonable to expect.
It's not silly. This thread is based on the fact that he "lay into defenders" and fought for the TD. So yes, it is special that we see him lower his shoulder and fight for yards.
I can only go on what my eyes tell me. Last year he was killed on this board for not fighting for the ball and showing no physicality at all(rightfully so). This year, so far, he has made some tough catches, caught balls in traffic and lowered his shoulder to get some extra yards. I really feel that he desrves credit so far for his improved play. Totally different feeling towards him this year vs last.....nice to see.
