Giants fan here. He is the prototype powerhouse guard I wanted on our offensive line. This guy is an absolute stud. His pass-protection is impeccable. He initiates contact on the DT and then just sits in his gap without giving up any ground backwards. He has that physical specimen 6'5 340 pound 34.5 inch arm powerhouse frame and a powerful anchor point on initial contact with the DT. Also his kick-slide/feet is outstanding for a man at that size. When he gets his hands on a DT, stunts his upfield rush, and they try some type of speed move, he can slide his feet, and stay in front of the DT. That pocket is nice and firm inside, creating more time to throw, clear throwing lanes, and extreme comfort for the QB's feet and mind. He is a big part of Eli Manning's success this season. The Giants give their rookie LG Weston Richburg slide protection help with their C JD Walton all the time so Jerry is constantly left on an island against his DT with a ton of ground to cover. And he STILL holds up. We got him at an absolute steal on like a 1 year $600k contract. Ridiculous. Praying we resign him this offseason.

...and you can keep him. He was hot garbage every year. He only kept starting every year because Ireland couldn't find anyone better. We still don't have a RG but I'm glad we cut the fat(literally) from this team in the form of John Jerry.
This happens all the time. A talented but lazy player on his rookie contract stays on the team because there is no real competition or because he's drafted in rounds 1-3 but he is a lazy butt and really isn't worth much. So the team releases him and no one wants him all that much. He signs a minimum contract and realizes, either he improves and busts his butt to get better or he goes by the wayside. Often he will improve. Some of those players will then sign larger deals and continue to play well. Others will improve, get a decent contract for 3 years and go right back to their old ways. A lot of it is the coaching as well. Vernon Davis was super talented but just very inconsistent. Until Harbaugh game in and Davis loves him and has been a much better player - right there among the top 3 TEs in the league (along with Graham and a 100% healthy Gronk).
But....but ...he is a bully. Thats really an oxymoron .Dont we want our OL to be bullies or will the NFL start sending them to Anger management classes or Etiquette college.
PFF has him rated as the #6 best overall Right Guard26 other teams are getting inferior RG play than the Giants are with Jerry

Sometimes players lack motivation, take time to develop or are not used well by the coaches. IMO the latter has been the biggest problem here over the last 20 years or so.
I didn't. Those guys were easy to like. They weren't evil cheaters with a cry baby QB who clearly blows refs.
Yep, glad you're having some success with him up there. He was a hot mess down in Miami. No hate here, if he has got it together up there good for you and good for him. BTW, I think there are many Dolphins fans that are closet Giants fans. I know I'm one of them.
I agree with Da Phins AND Rafael here. Sometimes a little fear is a great motivator; sometimes coaching staffs aren't so good. Pick one, or pick a little of each one. I heart the Giants. There is no closet involved. Super Bowl 42 was one of the best games that ever happened in any sport, at any time. Super Bowl 46 was the icing on a delicious cake baked with the tears of Pats fans.
Jerry always made me salivate with his potential, not surprising an unmotivated lineman with the Phins coaching staff (particularly the ol coach) never got close to it. Giants probably do better at that stuff
I like to think of it more as the Bills lost that game not so much the Giants beat them. Giants allowed two 3rd downs to be converted and basically the Bills ran out of time. Some coaches are good and know how to use the player, some coaches suck and stubbornly try to fit a square peg in a round hole, and sometimes a new coaching staff gets a player after he's been newly motivated by having been cut, and is able to realize his potential because he's finally willing to listen and/or work. Sometimes the player fits better with another set of players, sometimes the player is used differently in a way that plays to his strengths and minimizes his weaknesses, and sometimes the culture or scheme fits the player better. The recurring story of players on whom we have given up going on to start for other teams has to be a combination of all these factors. Only logical explanation. It's not just a one way proposition. Look at Satele after the Colts and Raiders (and we ourselves) threw him in the junkpile. Or even Daniel Thomas lately. You never know. Redemption can be just around the bend.
I really haven't watch any Giant games, so I have no idea how Jerry has played. Yet I have absolutely no respect for any rating put out by PFF. This was the same outfit that continued to rank Tannehill as one of the top QB's in the league early in the season when he was playing awful. PFF is nothing but a rating system put out by individuals who seem to have limited knowledge in the game of football, IMO.
Same here. Super Bowl 42 was the best Super Bowl I ever watched in my life (I'm too young to remember the 72 & 73 Dolphins). Patriots were on track to complete a perfect season, and the Giants staged a huge upset, thus preserving the '72 Dolphins as the only undefeated team in the Super Bowl era. I don't think NY Giants fans realize how happy & relieved & grateful Miami fans were about that win.
Randy Starks was drafted by Tennessee 71st overall and considered a bust. Obvious He totally changed. Happens
If John Jerry suddenly turns out good I think that's just another black mark for Philbin's file. Philbin is a former OL coach.
How do you figure? Its not like Philbin was playing him out of position or didn't give him enough of an opportunity to develop. Jerry showed flashes with the Phins of his potential but then would eat himself out of a position.
