Rexs ridiculous tattoo says everything you need to know about him and his judgment as it relates to being a HC.
At this point, I bet if Ross extended an offer to Brady Hoke, Hoke would say, "I'll think about it, and get back to you." Ross just doesn't have the goods, some do, some don't. Ross is a don't, and has consistently proven that.
as clueless and naive as Ross is, Harbaugh is the one that got away, you'd have to think he'd do whatever it takes to land him THIS time.
I really don't like Harbaugh personally. His entire persona has irritated me since his playing days. He is obviously an upgrade over Philbin, no doubt about it. He is also the best available candidate if Philbin fails to make the playoffs this year. The three biggest concerns are: 1. Ross gives him way too much power within the organization. Harbaugh is no GM, and he won't handpick any GM who won't be in a subservient role. 2. Harbaugh has apparently lost the respect of the locker room he currently coaches. 3. Harbaugh has a huge ego, and his GM has built a very talented roster that Harbaugh benefited from. A roster that Singletary previously squandered. The three biggest pluses are: 1. He is a QB whisperer. Not many head coaches can tout turning around a QB "bust" and developing a second young QB. 2. Harbaugh fits the ideal candidate profile, a head coach who has made it to the Super Bowl (capable) , but hasn't won it (hungry.) 3. Despite his ego and the rumors of a "lost" locker room, his team continues to fight and play at a high level.
I thought the reason he's going to be out of SF is that the damn owner of the team thinks he is more important to the team's success than the coach who bailed him out of a decade of 5 win seasons. I doubt this will be a problem in Miami. Steve Ross is in New York during the week, isn't hanging around the team, isn't trying to make himself the face of everything, and doesn't strike me as a guy who is suddenly going to want credit for everything that goes right with the franchise.
Not really. First off it isn't necessarily him that wants out desperately. It's at least as much them deciding that they don't need him, that all he does is rub people wrong and Vic Fangio is the reason they win anyway. He and Trent Baalke aren't getting along well but that doesn't imply that Harbaugh wants to be the GM or even wants final say authority. The only position he's asked for that is the QB position. For good reason.
I've read on numerous occasions that there's supposedly a lot of friction between York and Harbaugh. York is also one of those owners who likes to front run with his team's success, so that's why I'm reading it like that.
I'm not suggesting that Harbaugh believes he should be the GM of the 49ers. But Jim's ego and "credit" issues are why his relationship with Baalke has been rough for years now. My concern is that Ross will give Harbaugh anything he wants in order to join the Dolphins, and Harbaugh will insist on being above his GM in the food chain in order to ensure that his experience in Miami is different than what it was in San Francisco. Harbaugh, his ego, and his agent all know that he can get that from Ross if he demands it.
Maybe I'm just gunshy, but the last two times the Dolphins gave egomaniacs EVERYTHING they thought they wanted, those *******s decided what they really wanted was to go fishing in the Keys or go back to College.
