I don't want another college coach. Maybe I'm wrong, and I'm sure I'll get toasted if I am, but it seems in the last 20 years that college coaches have failed more than they have succeded. My opinion is that they have less control/power over the players than they would in collge.

Honestly, the only expectations of mine that have gone down with respect to the Harbaugh situation are my expectations for the 49ers' future after they ditch the coach that turned their franchise around and try to replace him with Joe Blow coordinator of the month.

I feel that all this talk and press is going to damage this season and damage future coaching recruitment. Can Ross keep this quiet and not ruin it again? Let's wait for Philbin to deliver a losing season before we get rid of him. If the team were to win 4 out of the next 5 will you still want a new coach?

I'm all for keeping Philbin if we make the playoffs and look good, win or lose once we get there.

I need to see a playoff victory before I start to believe Philbin is worth keeping.

What would suck is if we keep him, Lazor leaves in the offseason to become a head coach, and our offense (and team) goes right back to the bottom next year.

Philbin is not the long term answer. He isn't even a better coach than Sparano. He shouldn't have even been retained. Too many short sighted fans here..."what if we win 4 out of the next 5?!?!" Lol so? This is once in a blue moon opportunity to land a top 3 coach in football.

I think the problem is that you act as if Philbin is the worst coach ever when in reality, his floor appears to be average. His ceiling may only be average too, but this team has not sucked since he's been here.

If we miss the playoffs then **** can him, but you still need to rectify how a horrible coach can coach a team built by the worst GM ever to go 8-8. Your hyperbole doesn't track.

Lazor is not going to be a head coach. Unless Miami scores over 30 points per game in the next 12 games and Tannehill looks like a probowl quarterback.

Yeah, pump the brakes on the Lazor talk. I like what I've seen but outside of Miami, is anyone thinking about him as a head coaching candidate?

Let's say that does happen though. Essentially Miami will be in the playoffs and many will feel Joe Philbin is vindicated. Bill Lazor gets a head coaching job. Maybe it's a college job, who knows. Do you trust Joe Philbin to replace him?

I agree if you're talking about NFL jobs. But remember this guy was in college football not long ago and he could be offered a college job.

Well I'll say this, I've seen 36 games of Joe Philbin and 4 games of Bill Lazor. If you gave me a choice between keeping one of them right now, I'd pick Lazor in a picosecond.

I hope Steve Ross feels the same way.

Not at all. I think he should have been fired last year. Keeping Jim Turner and only firing him because he was forced to makes me very wary of his coaching choices.

He could just do the same thing and hire Bill Musgrave.

With our luck, Lazor takes a college coaching job and Joe Philbin brings in Greg Knapp. Harbaugh goes to the Jets. And I go get myself a length of rope.

Also fought pretty hard to keep Mike Sherman. First choice for the OC job was Ben McAdoo. That wasn't looking so hot in Weeks 1 & 2, but is looking a hell of a lot better Weeks 4, 5 & 6.

Can we take a trip down memory lane and some people remind me what Philbin's credentials and accomplishments were when he came to Miami? I am not bashing Philbin or making a smart comment it is a sincere question?

He carries a trapper keeper and is very organized. I've heard he was the one to draw up Green Bays offensive game plan week to week.

He didn't have any...at least any that would scream, "this guy is HC material!" Never called plays at GB, basically a career OL coach. I guess he showed he had organizational skills and could keep a steady demeanor...that's about all I know of, but I didn't really research him.

He was very organized. Brought a binder to his meeting with Ross.

    You don't want to know.

    But since you asked:

    http://www.palmbeachpost.com/news/s...ns-joe-philbin-didnt-call-plays-in-gre/nPs4Y/

That's a puff piece meant to display all the things Philbin did, since he didn't call plays or install the offense or work with the QBs or any other position for that matter.

If you read it, keep tissue near by. You'll be wiping away tears.

I'm skeptical that anyone Miami asked would note that Philbin had little to do with the prolific offense he was being credited with, and I'm imagining he interviewed very well.

I dont think it matters what his name is. However Dirk Cutter sounds like a bad Ben Stiller character.
