I believe right now, MMoore is probably the better Qb of the two, also believe Tannehill has a lot more upside and can just do more things on the field. Stick with Tannehill
I never stated that the answer for the next long term answer at the QB position will be found after this season. I merely stated that the search will have to continue after this season. The Dolphins have not been able to find that solution at the QB position since the retirement of Marino. It will likely take several more years before they are fortunate enough to find another elite QB. Tannehill is okay if you are looking for an inconsistent QB who can lead the team to 6-8 wins a season. I just don't think he is good enough to lead this team to the playoffs. So I just don't see him as the long term answer for the Dolphins at the QB position.
Dude..when our season looks sucktified...somehow you seem to say something that keeps it real..and makes me laugh. Seriously..thats prettt damn cool. Never loose that.
Theres not a person alive who could convince me Matt Moore is a better QB or has more potential. Moore throws a decent deep ball but his underneath and intermediate stuff is below Tannehills by a decent amount.
Matt Moore does literally one thing well: Throw the deep ball. He doesn't do another single thing better than Tannehill.
Come on he does so much other stuff better: There's holding a clipboard better, growing a soulpatch better, and uhhhhh winning meaningless games that have no relevance in making the playoffs but ultimately set back the franchise by getting them no shot at drafting Andrew Luck better.
I just dont see how one can arrive at the conclusion that Tannehill will always be inconsistent. He had a lot working against him coming out such as lack of college experience starting at QB, lack of repetitions at QB since he was moved around, etc and then coming here and still having Sherman, the same college coach who didnt believe in him enough in college to stick with him over a QB who had no pro potential and wasnt even a better college QB. Tannehill has some work to do to be more consistent but it takes many QBs 3-4 years. Drew Brees, Eli Manning, took 3-4 years as starters, Alex Smith took 6-7 years to become good, Aaron Rodgers was on the bench 3 years, etc. Im just not ready to call it quits on Tannehill. The problem is Philbin and the cast as much as it is Tannehills inconsistency. Not saying we shouldnt keep looking/drafting at that spot but we need help in other areas as well and that could alter Tannehills outlook just as easily as drafting a new QB could be the answer. Tannehill hasnt shown so little that hes given no reason to believe he cant do it imo.
He's not good enough. Philbin is gone...no new coach is going to attach his future to Tannehill. I don't know why people want to hold on to a failed QB. The sooner we get a new QB, the sooner we can turn this franchise around.
I dont see how anyone can rationally dispute this. Whats his division record? Overall record? Clearly not good enough.
My guess is the Rams will be looking hard at Winston and probably in position to have a shot to take him. Add the Bucs and Jets (If Rex is fired) to that list too.
What we know so far about Tannehill is that he can't hit a faraway moving target accurately and he can't make quick decisions involving multiple variables. When he is given a play that involves going to a specific spot at a certain time, he's excellent. That's what you saw against the Packers.
I don't see the value in replacing him this season. I think you have to at least give him the rest of the season. Having said that, I don't think he's the answer. He's way too inconsistent and turns the ball over way too many times. He has poor pocket awareness, doesn't read defenses very well and has way too many mental lapses to ever be a top QB.
Ok ... so whats YOUR plan smart guy? Again..another expert who knows 17 isnt the answer..yet doesnt know what the answer is.
Really, the "plan" is pretty much the same for everyone - stick with him until we have someone better, either through FA or the draft, and until then hope for the best. In the meantime, Tannehill is getting outplayed by backups (Austin Davis) and rookie QBs (Derek Carr, etc...) this season who have legitimate reasons not be performing at a higher level...
Davis and Carr are absolutely not outplaying Tannehill. Carr plays from 20 points down every week and pads his stats after the outcome is decided. Davis has had a few games where his team got down big and he padded them and hes had a few his defense and running game failed him and he was forced to throw thus stat accumulation. Tannehill isnt perfect, far from but hes better then either of those guys. Though I like what i see from Davis as far as his future....
Tanne's best pass was when he threw the TD to Landry in the end-zone. He had mega pressure in his face and lofted the pass with touch, over the defender for the TD. It was also nice when he escaped pressure and hit Wallace for that first down.
Not a chance. I've watched 3 games of Carr and 3 of Davis. They aren't outplaying Tannehill, not even close. Austin Davis does not have an NFL arm and Derek Carr looks like the rookie that he is. This team would not be putting up 24 points per game with either of those quarterbacks. Probably around 15-17 with Carr and maybe 20 with Davis. We'd also be turning the ball over more, and we've been turning it over too much.
I'd LUVVVV to see how the young QBs now and throughout history would or would've looked had they been burdened with as much responsibility as Tannehill and had 37 pass attempts dialed up per game [and typically NOT during garbage time]. Even Matt Ryan wasn't weighed down as much as Tannehill, since the early part of his career featured Atlanta running to set up the pass, as well as saw Atlanta frequently gaining positive yardage on 1st down to make 2nd & 3rd passing that much easier in less predictable situations. It also saw Michael Turner closing out games so, you know, pressure wouldn't be placed on Ryan to air it out and risk stopping the clock when the goal is to keep it ticking. So many little things that fans fail to take into consideration when evaluating a young QB or comparing him to his peers. Hell, I already mentioned how GOD AWFUL Roethlisberger looked during his 3rd year when his pass attempts per game were bumped from 22 to 31 as more responsibility was added to his plate. I mean TURRBLE!! Ben would be SITTING THE BENCH behind Tannehill if he were here and in his 3rd year. As inconsistent as Tannehill appears to be playing, he's still performing night & day better than how Ben played when he was forced to incur this much responsibility. Actually, Ben was still 6 attempts shy of Tannehill's 37. At least Tannehill has some shining moments under this much pressure and pulls off some wins. Ben on the other hand was 1-7 with a 53.7 rating, 5 TD, 21 INT, 57.9%, during the 8 games when he had to pass it 30+ times. Even with Tannehill averaging 37 attempts the past 21 games [and 19 games over 30 attempts], he's still 10-11 with an 81.6 rating, 32 TD, 22 INT, and 60.4%. But yeah, let's do what Pitt didn't do with Ben and pull the plug now, ensuring Miami never finds out what Tannehill does or doesn't become.
I honestly thought he threw the ball away. I was really surprised when it turned out to be a touchdown.
Tannehill has playmaker ability, which he has demonstrated at times. It's just a matter of consistently putting it together. I have no problem with him as our QB, but I am not opposed to drafting a QB in the 4th or 5th round as a project or to bring competition. To me, using a first round pick on a QB would be a waste when we need help at linebacker and the O line.
I love you man. That ain't gonna stop the complainathon tho. Don't be mad at them, they're passionate people who seriously don't have a clue. But they mean well, most of em anyway.
So lazor for the first time I saw got a lil frustrated in an interview, he kept being asked why why why does the offense play like crap in all the first halves of the games, he stumbled around his words, saying the usual, " I don't know" bs, then all of a sudden he was asked why the 2nd half looked so different against the packers and he came out and said, " he started running around a little and that seemed to change his rhythm"...... He said that...well, wtf, Ive been saying it for freakin years, and none of these Moron coaches seem to understand that this kid needs to be moved around constantly, especially early in the game, I mean tell him!!! For christ sake, literally tell him on the first drive if he sees a lane to go for it and run, roll his *** out 4 times a game, 2 to each side, run him in the read option at least five to 7 carries a game... the solution to starting fast is right there in front of his blind *** eyes, call the correct game early, stop trying to be all perfect and get his *** dirty early..Jesus, this is not hard to see. I you want the best the skill set has to offer then you run Him, east, west, and most importantly north...force him to engage.
Bro, Ryan has not hit one pure, long, downfield throw to anyone where he just unleashed it..actually I don't remember any time where it was pure.
I want the coordinator and the qb to understand that when he uses his legs, and when he rolls right or left, he's most effective thereafter, so start coaching it in him and start figuring it out..your late to the party.
If Tannehill's half as dependent on things external to him (receivers, blockers, offensive schemes, coaching decisions, etc.) as these sorts of posts make it seem, he's probably never going to be good enough. When you're good enough, your individual ability shines through, and it overcomes whatever is going on around you. You aren't dependent on these other variables, and in fact your ability outweighs them and makes them better than they might otherwise be. It's really simply a sign the guy isn't good enough that we spend so much time speculating about what could theoretically improve external to him to cause him to play better. The fans of teams with adequate QBs are likely talking about how much some of the inadequate players around them benefit by being on the same team as the quarterback. Here, we talk about how much the quarterback needs the variables around him to improve to benefit him.
Just because their paid pros doesn't mean they see it..I don't think they see it.. If they saw it, that first play on that drive to close the packers out would of been on the move, it was wide open on both first and 2nd down. if they got it, there would of been more than zero rollouts on Sunday, if they got it, you would consciously see Tannehill scramble north and run for first downs.. I think he had 3 carries and no rollouts, yup, they don't get it. The good news, like I said, I think lazor might be starting to get it, and when I say get it, I mean two things, what's best for this team, and what's best for this qbs growth.
