If I'm in his corner I'd sure be telling him to come back. Take that time to prove your work ethic, and prove you've grown up and matured. I think with the NFL's focus on off field stuff right now, it's too risky for him to come out the way he is.

Jameis needs 1 more year of college to straighten his ****ing head. Loads of talent on the field, but a damn knucklehead off it, and not "goofy ****" knucklehead, but "real troublesome ****" knucklehead.

Personally, I think he'll stay one more year in college. So basically Mariota would be the top QB prospect on next draft, and he's a good but not great prospect.

This is last years assessment. Mariota has been everything you could want in a QB this year. He's grown into a vocal leader on his team, he's making throws into tight space, running the ball, dropping bombs on a dime. He finally had his first turnover 2 weeks ago on a strip sack vs. Arizona, but to be fair his OL has been decimated to the point they had DL starting on it.

Barring an enormous meltdown he's a sure fire first round pick this year and likely a top 10.

Once again, since.....forever it seems, our OL is still the root of our problems. When they do their jobs, we score and win...when they don't...See GB...although I think the defense takes the blunt of the GB loss. But Tanny couldn't get much done because there was no run game. Once again, Satele, for all those who think he's the next Dwight Stephenson, didn't get the job done and was mediocre at best. Pouncey, I'll give a bye to due to coming back and getting his game legs under him, but there was no run game or even a threat of one.

I'm not convinced he's the next elite QB, but he's not Chad Henne or any of the other clowns we've had since Danny retired...

FSU supposedly doesn't want him back for another year. He's a great talent but I wouldn't touch him with a ten foot pole. His decision making off the field is indicative of a guy who just doesn't get it, and is a long ways away from getting it.

^^^This is what I got when I searched this thread for Zac Taylor. Personally, that's where I would start first. Tannehill has to have ALL the tools to help him succeed before you can dump him, and I don't believe this coaching staff has helped him progress at all.

I hinted at this earlier in the thread, or in another one. I can't remember there's so many about this it seems. I wouldn't move on from him yet. If I'm not mistaken we can pick up his option still for next year right? So do that, and bring in competition. Chances are, if we're lucky we will have a new coaching staff. That includes replacing Philbin & Taylor. Personally... It doesnt make sense to me that our QB can play poor at the start of games, then better in the second half. The only way that makes sense to me, is that he is completely unprepared, or incorrectly prepared to face our opposition each week. Now as incompetent as Philbin has proven to be as a coach, and as unqualified as we all know Zac Taylor is to be a QB coach... that's where I'm pointing to as the issues. I think its Lazor who's helping him in the second half after we make some adjustments to what the opposition is showing on defense. It just doesn't really make sense. It's not as if he starts the game asleep, and suddenly at halftime has a cup of coffee and is ready to go. It's beyond that, to me, it screams coaching. The guy can clearly make plays and make the throws, the preparation appears to be off, That's on the staff IMO.

There isn't an option for 2015. He's under guaranteed contract for 15. The option is for 2016.

Tannehill will probably start for us in 2015 even with a new coaching staff. I don't see Matt Moore sticking around though, especially if a quarterback is drafted in the first three rounds.

The pellet gun thing isn't getting enough press because of the rape allegations. That's my honest opinion. You go into the police reports on that stuff, and it's an ongoing problem and it's one of a few indicators that Jameis is a dope. The New York Times article puts it in good context, I think.

Oh I agree. But when you look at what crimes Cam committed in college, I'd say he matured quite a bit.

Bo Jackson, after trying to give advice to Winston, apparently frustrated with the young boy, says that he's gonna have to make a lot of changes or else.

you better really study this kid if your thinking about hitching your wagon to him..at this point, as far as his personality goes, and going back to last year, I just don't like his punk ***.

I have been disagreeing with some of your evals lately, so you not thinking mariota won't be a first round pick doesn't shock me right now, while your boy is out crab legs, and lord knows what else, standing on tables and acting like a scumbag, Mariota is doing something to get better and staying humble..

would you or anyone else like to bet about mariota not being a first round pic?

did you watch his actions before the title game last year? how bout after?

hes a punk right now, no sense arguing it, question is can he become a man in time before the punk wins.

That is crazy talk. Mariota is a solid #1 pick and a better/safer pick that Manziel.

    On Mariota:
Thoughts on Prescott? He gets a lot of (better) comparisons to Tebow.

As much as I think this is a real long shot, if Harbaugh were to come here there is no doubt in my mind that he would turn Tannehill into a top tier QB.

If this ugly trend of inconsistency continues you are then forced to invest in a different QB likely via draft. All you have to do is look at my avatar to see how I feel, although I wouldn't be upset about a Christian Hackenberg possibly in the second. Trading for a QB rarely works out and the FA options are thin.

I really REALLY just wish these flashes weren't so far and few inbetween.

The problem with Winston, Mariota, or anyone else in the draft is that they will take time to develop. So if you're ready to can Tannehill based on 2 seasons and 5 games then you sure as hell won't be satisfied with what any of the college kids do here.

Aaron Rodgers didn't even play till his 4th season, the scrub. Brees and Eli struggled early despite having much more college experience than Tannehill. Peyton threw a million ints his rookie year. I'm sure he'd have been run out of town in Miami, who's a available in the 98 draft to replace this bum?!?!

he's also had five different starting lineups and true freshman starting at left tackle.

We are in the minority who really like him I'll tell ya that, have you been to the draft forum.?

I haven't studied Dak in isolation, not until we're out if the playoffs do I go there mostly..

Have you ever though that your undying loyalty to Tannehill has also blinded you to the possibility of Matt Moore being a legitimate starter? Because outside of his concussion-plagued year in Carolina where he never should have been on the field t begin with, he was a 90 QBR type of passer that the team has really rallied behind. He also has proven that he has the arm to run this offense and he's 8-3 in all of his career games at a Dolphin. So if I'm the GM, and Tannehill is suddenly playing on a sprained ankle, the decision is very easy...hand Matt Moore the reins for a 2-3 week test run.

If Moore finds a way to score against Chicago, then maybe he finishes out the season as QB1. If not, then you evaluate on a game per game basis and start the guy you have the most confidence in. Because Philbin made it perfectly clear on that 3rd and 9 play late in the game against Green Bay that he just doesn't trust Tannehill enough to make the right decisions when the ballgame is on the line. That makes the GM's job very, very easy....Moore is the answer for the next few weeks by default.

Moore isnt an upgrade to 17 IMO..its got nothing to do with my loyalty for him. I want to win..more then I want 17 to be the QB.

Yet, seemingly every time Moore gets in a game, he throws some terrible ball into a terrible place, and it ends up a pick 6. If your issue with Tannehill is decision making, I don't see how Moore solves that issue for you.

Tannehills shown he is capable of playing well beyond Moore. His issue is consistancy. If he looked bad all the time..we arent having this discussion.

I'm with you 100% here but Tannehill needs to find consistency soon or these discussions will become relevant.

I personally think it's ridiculous to talk about other QBs right now. We're 5 games into the season and it's not like Tannehill has regressed.

I agree. I think a big reason for the inconsistency could be the coaching he's had. Coming into the league he was familiar with Sherman's offense from Texas A&M and had Zach Taylor working with him. Obviously that didn't translate well, but he had a very limited receiving corps as a rookie and the worst offensive line in franchise history last year; IMO, that's not playing with a full deck.

Now, entering Bill Lazor, it seems to me that Zach Taylor is pretty much an ancillary part of the staff (Philbin had him conducting a study on fumbles and how they're recovered in the offseason) as opposed to doing things directly related to the improvement of Tannehill - not that Taylor's got a vast wealth of knowledge to draw from anyway; he's Sherman's son-in-law and seems to be here due to nepotism more than anything else.

So, I think that Tannehill's inconsistencies lie in part due to having a poor receiving corps, poor O-line, and not having had proper, albeit tougher/harder coaching, to learn from. I think that takes an adjustment period to get used to, but he's clearly shown, in brief periods, what he's capable of. However, now you're dealing with the head coach pulling the rug out from under you in circumstances (Buffalo game week 2), and a first-time offensive coordinator who's not yet the best play-caller in Bill Lazor.

There's been nothing steady for Tannehill in his career to this point and it's almost like he's got Alex Smith syndrome. Consistent play-calling, receivers, coaching, etc. I think could really improve his own consistency. I doubt we'll get that while this current staff is in place.

I'm excited for the second half of the season to see what happens. I think everyone is still trying to get the kinks worked out of the new offense. Not trying to make excuses, but it's just what my eyes tell me.

I think Lazor was brought in mainly to help Tannehill grow. We haven't really seen that quite yet but it's still early. I'm optimistic. If Ryan turns into Alex Smith then we have something cooking.

Get rid of Philbin, let Tannehill have a true coach to learn under and we will be fine. All this team is missing is a true head coach.
