Oooh, you fooled me Section...I read the your title and not the poll question before I answered it... How can Philbin save his job ?? Reach the playoffs... Joe Philbin should not be fired if....at this point I don't think he should be able to retain his job, even IF we miraculously reach the playoffs or even higher... But it won't matter anyway what you or I think, it only matters what Ross thinks and Philbin won't be fired if he reaches the playoffs...
As bad as the coaching seems to be, the talent level on this team is not very good. We are still in the vile clutches of Ireland...
That's a good question, Jen and No, I don't think Ross will fire Philbin if we reach the playoffs...You're right, he's shown a distinct edge of loyalty to his employees...sad thing, is that this is a trait that is necessary for the real estate and business world, but not for professional sports...
I voted for what would end up keeping his job, which is making the playoffs. However, from everything I've seen, it'd take a SB win.
So if we lose to Chicago then to Jax, is Philbin a goner? I'd fire him personally but I'm not Ross. I do think if we are 2-5 its a legit firing.
At 2-5 you might as well fire him and promote Lazor as the interim coach while also begin interviews.
Reaches Playoffs. That would put him in the top 3rd of the league based solely on results. If he gets panned for losing, then he should get credit for winning (if it actually happens). I think the team is good enough to pull it off, partly based on the way they played this past Sunday.
winning at a .333 clip will get your fired rather quickly. I think if we don't make the playoffs he's done, or should be. But who knows how Ross the Clown will deal with the situation
If he took the team to the playoffs, that to me would demonstrate improvement. Whatever mistakes he's made, and there have been plenty, can be forgiven if he continues to improve. Unless a fluky 8-8 record got the team to the playoffs with an embarrassing one and done performance.
I'd think 2-5 with a loss to the winless Jags would do him in but then again he survived bullygate so who knows.
I'd guess that Ross would be happy with Philbin just getting to the playoffs. I'd set the bar higher myself, and expect a WIN* in the playoffs to save his job. *If we lost a very close game to a really good team, I could live with that too, UNLESS it was bad clock management or other bad coaching that cost us the win.
