You are blowing his comments waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyy the hell out of proportion. It means EXACTLY what the hell he said. Leave your house. Go to the grip store. Then buy one. Then come back here and we'll talk.
WHY are we comparing Tannehill to Andrew Luck again? I mean, really. The Colts were a perennial playoff team up to the season they tanked to get Luck. Seriously, does ANYONE legitimately believe that they didn't tank to get him? The Colts weren't as bad as that terrible season said they were. Not to mention, Luck is the best prospect coming out of college since, I don't know, PEYTON FREAKING MANNING. So, take a great prospect, put him on a team that perennially makes the playoffs, and whaddya know...THEY MAKE THE PLAYOFFS. Then, you have the Dolphins, not relevant, particularly, since the Marino era, and they draft a raw prospect at QB with a wicked high ceiling, put him on a struggling to go .500 team, and then whine and complain that he isn't doing what Luck did. Sounds reasonable.
I full heartedly agree his book isn't written. I lean to think he will end up being our guy. I think he realizes the potential, but is not there yet. I also recognize others have valid concerns. What frustrates me is the outright i am right your wrong perspective as if they are so much wiser about football than most. Someone poses that there could be mitigating factors its called making excuses and is used to show why they are smarter and correct yet they ignore their own excuses when pointed out to them. Then they proceed to tie RT to henne, beck et al. Each qb is diff n each was limited in ability/potential, Rt clearly imo has more potential than they ever did. Just because each has same floor, doesn't equate to same ceiling. Rt has already shown abilities they never did imo. But people may disagree and that's fine. But its the arrogance in the disagreement that creates conflict. None of us will influence the outcome in this debate. I just wish we would not not pick everything ad if perfection is achievable. To me RT was work in process and was surprised he started day 1. Bit expected growing pains. Wish we had a real qb coach. Oh well just my 2 cents which isnt worth 2 cents
Tannehill running the read option , and keeping 5 to 7. Times a game is why the backs are hitting 5..there's so many passing concepts you can design off what's happening there..we need to be a read option offense and he needs to be a read option qb..if you want the best qb he can be that is.
Wilson is a good QB, but good is all he is. Also comparing him to Luck is comparing him to a once every 10-20 year prospect. Not exactly fair, and FWIW their rookie and second seasons weren't all that different. You're a gteat poster here and I often agree, I just don't see it on this one.
Because they run a system that is designed for him to only read half of the field. A lot of crossing and rub routes against man coverage with wide open receivers. A lot of bootleg dump offs which travel 2-4 yards in the air and pick up 15. He improvises well and his legs are a weapon. However he doesn't do the things needed for me to call a QB great or elite. Yes you can win with him, and no he isn't a bad player. However when I actually watch him either live or on tape, its clear there are a lot of things he doesn't do well and is semi-babied by the system. Just my opinion. I understand it isn't the opinion of many, but if I changed it without being convinced, that would make me a flio-flopper. That isn't to say he can't be great. He just isn't there yet IMO.
We've also seen Tannehill, and the entire team under Philbin look good, play well, seem to have turned the corner only to lay an egg the next week or two. Lets wait until after the SD game. If we win that RT plays well, I will be willing to say I was wrong about him and Philbin. Right now, I think the FO should still be considering all options for next off-season, with HC/and QB being priorities.
I agree with this. I don't think he's the guy either. I think he lacks talent to be consistently good. However, he has played well the last few weeks. I want to see him play the Chargers and really the Bills and Pats again. If he shines in those games, I may be willing to change my opinion. And of course, it depends on how many games we win. If don't make the playoffs, see ya, I don't care what else happens. This is a QBs league and if you cant make the playoffs by year three, who needs ya? Its next up. Hopefully we will.
The guy has had one game with less than a 100 passer rating. How is that "having a hard time" exactly?
I wish RT had better football instincts though. They need to actually call his number on his run plays. Otherwise, he doesn't usually take off until someone is at his laces. His run plays should develop more organically sometimes, when D coverage is good. That being said, he is better than half the QBs in the league. He may never be elite, and thats fine. 90% of teams have to thrive without an elite QB. I do think he is good enough overall, while I fear he could disappear any given Sunday. And that would be extra painful during the play-offs. But it happens to the best of them. That is the reality.
That doesn't really explain having a passer rating > 100. Being down by a lot and having to pass more is going to lead to inefficiency, not efficiency.
Outside of Pennington's 1 season here, I don't think any QB has done more to win for us since Marino. Other QBs always had excellent Rb's and tight ends, and usually a playmaker or two at WR. When we win, it is usually on RT's shoulders. And some times we lose despite valiant efforts. And yes, sometimes the kid disappears. And he needs to improve, and keep growing and learning. When you can come out and play so well, as he did on Sunday, there are not a lot of QBs who can give you that. You think Geno Smith will ever put the Jets offense on his shoulders and dominate like that? There just is not enough talent at the pro QB position to be so picky, and discard so quickly. Like a 4 year old coloring on a piece of paper, and tearing it up after 3 minutes and starting over on a new sheet. You cannot do that with young QBs, who have a lot potential. There simply is no more paper.
I cant argue with you and who knows maybe he ****s the bed against the jags just like last year against the lowly bucs.I am hoping and praying his play is for real but I am worried defences will start shutting down the read option. The safeties will start cheating up if they continue to ignore the longball so I still think they need to attempt it to keep the defences honest.
Let the safeties cheat up and we will start having some big plays. Team aren't that stupid, they are still scared of Wallace I don't care if they haven't hit tons of long passes. If your the team who cheats and gets beat, you are going to look even stupider.
miss evaluation on your part..why are you all still discussing wilson in a tannehill thread. because whenever any other qb who has performed above ryan, does something wrong, you tie it to tannehills progression..thats why.. circumstances and variables are so different in other places. lets focus on our guy and discuss other qbs in the '' other qbs thread'
Like I said its fine to disagree. If I'm wrong I'm wrong...I mean anyobe here who has never been wrong scream out loud. *crickets* Someone specifically asasked me so I answered. I actually agree, lets stay on topic.
last game he posted a 110 passer rating in the loss..fact still over a 100 on the year...with subpar weapons..isolation.
I'm tired of trying to avoid the topic in a tannehill thread, so lets go there. I think some folks are pissed that they mis evaluated the guy predraft and are always looking to cut on him first chance they get.also, they want our guy to have the same success that he has had so they look for any variables that would deter our qb from achieving what wilson has already done.. The mind..the leadership..the athletic movement..its all there in isolation..you can fit it in any system and you will come out with the same results..no defensive system can affect what russell wilson can do athletically at the position, weapons can definitely affect the wins.. a perfect example of this is his passer rating this year..hes still over a 100, no percy, no golden tate, no Zac miller...I mean their receiver and tight end unit is weak sauce yet he's still over a 100.. the guy just did something no other qb has ever done on the field..300 yards passing 100 yards running...yet they lost, if that isn't the very definition of a one man show i don't know what is.
please don't tell me you think he's a '' damn good player'' in one sentence then blast him every chance you get in every thread you can.. '' damn good player'' is not the same stance as when you described him as Adequate and mediocre'' in other threads. your stance on the player is duly noted, he's broken every freakin record in his first three years and won the Super Bowl and put up incredible personal numbers, and yet you call him average because he has a very good back..
like tannehill has to do most games in his career? I mean thats been one of the huge arguments about Tanny vs Wilson is that Wilson's numbers look better because he's asked to throw less.
so what is he trav?..''adequate, mediocre'' or a ''darn good player?''..cant be both. cause unless your clear as to where you stand on him as a qb in isolation, then your claims go in one ear and out the other..telling us he hasn't won the past two games while having a historic performance in one of those losses is a perfect example of talking out your glutes.
so if I'm reading you correctly, your point is he doesn't have the game to bring his team back from behind.. lol
agreed. he's a damn good game manager QB. Probably as good as you can get in that category. But he's no Manning, Rodgers, Brees. Probably hovering around 10th best or so. which is pretty damn good for a game manager type
All I'm saying is that if you have to pass more then according to Stringer that causes a drop in efficiency, which plays directly into the argument of the anti-Wilson crowd.
Kind of interesting stats grading of QBs on this site. Shows different-than-normal type stuff, good or no? http://nflsgreatest.co.nf/2014/10/week-7-quarterbacks/
he has two and a half years of tape to know what he is..if you haven't figured it out by now your reaching.
