The best thing about this thread is it makes the Jonathan Martin is no longer a Dolphin thread show up in the similar thread box.
tempted after your comment, but I've been 6 months clean and free. not going to do it. wouldn't be prudent.
I hope this is true. I still don't really think Lamar Miller is even average by NFL starting RB standards. He just seems too easy to tackle for me and rarely wears down a defense like I'd want the Dolphins RB to do (Moreno). I think Martin brings a little more of this than Miller would. For a 4th or lower, I'm down
I'm all for drafting Gurley but if we are as good as I think we are and he doesn't blow at the combine...no way we get him IMO.
Which is fine and dandy but still going to cost a draft resource. There are other holes on the team, this one could be shored up now if it's a reasonable pick. Mark Barron got sent to the Rams for a 4th and a 6th, Jonathan Casillas got traded as well. Martin hasn't been traded because there is most likely an auction going on over there right now.
Apparently this rumor is feeding on itself. [h=2]ESPN stokes fake Doug Martin trade rumor[/h] http://www.sbnation.com/nfl/2014/10/28/7085049/doug-martin-trade-rumor-espn
Adam Beasley @AdamHBeasley Trade deadline is less than two hours off, yet Dennis Hickey is here watching practice. Read into that what you will.
martin is used up. shiano ran his wheels off in college and in the pros. trading for doug martin would be like getting toby gerhart.
Same here. I didn't approve of his hire because he was on a losing team and he's never been a GM but I am pleasantly surprised by what he's done so far.
When Ross hired Hickey, I felt that it was simply because no top tier GM candidate had any interest in the job. So far though, I feel Hickey appears to be a major upgrade over our prior GM. Right now I have more faith in Hickey going forward than I do in Philbin. Yet Philbin still has nine games left this season to make a believer out of me and I hope he does.
I'm pretty happy we got past the trade deadline without doing something like moving Rishard Matthews or making some sort of job security move for Philbin.
It's a non-issue now, but the reason Martin was not doing well is because he was not hitting his holes and he was not doing well in his blocking assignments; this is per his HC who threw that out in the media several weeks ago. Maybe it is partly his o-line, but it is certainly a bunch of Martin as to why he is not playing well. I, for one, am glad he did not come to Miami.
So far Hickey has done a good job in yr #1, he replaced some of Ireland's guys with players who arguably are doing much better. Mitchell, Delmas, James, Landry, Fede have all chipped in in large ways filling for players Carrol v Finnegan the jury is still out
Finnegan to me is a big upgrade...not just his play (slightly better) but his attitude, charisma and leadership...not to mention getting under WR's skin (Marshall). Love a feisty player.
