There has been a lot of discussion on this forum in recent years that the Dolphins don't get much love from the national media and especially from ESPN.

I was just watching NFL Prime time on ESPN and Trey Wingo, Merrill Hoge and Tim Hasselbeck were all praising the play of Ryan Tannehill in the game against the Chargers.

Hoge also took the time to bring up the fact that the Dolphins defense is one of the top defenses in the NFL and all of them agreed that the Dolphins are a team to watch over the remainder of the season.

I have been stating all along that once the Dolphins started winning games, the national media would give them the attention many fans on here felt they deserved. If the Dolphins continue to play like they did yesterday, they will not be ignored anymore on ESPN or any of the other national media outlets. Winning solves the issue of being ignored by the national media and the Dolphins are finally getting the positive press, simply because they have earned it so far this season.

Nice. Peter King has us at 8 in his fine fifteen. that puts us above 5 other teams currently holding playoff spots. I'd say that counts as respect, if not attention.I always love checking out all the media after a big win like this. Its part of "relishing the win"

Honestly, I could care less anymore what the media says, because even when they're praising us, it's not out of respect. They read a stat line for the previous Sunday and then talk like they've seen every game, and I can do without that kind of commentary.

LOL, I didn't want to say it but yeah when a team starts getting heaps of praises it can hurt a team if they read and start believing too much in what they are hearing. They can tend to slack off and forget what got them where they are.

I hear what you're saying. I don't pay a whole lot of attention to the Dolphins national coverage for that reason. They don't offer me any particular insight outside of what the league might think of the team. However, as national sports media outlets, their NFL guys have to cover all 32 teams. Their coverage of the best teams or the more nationally-popular teams (Cowboys, etc) is going to be better. Up until this last couple of weeks, the Dolphins haven't particularly warranted any special media attention outside of Bully-gate. So... once we start winning games consistently, I think you'll see more than just superficial coverage from the national media.

    But, we gotta win.

That dominating win against a good Chargers team certainly got the league's attention. Now beat Detroit and Buffalo.

Hope the team can ignore this and not sip that spiked ESPN koolaid.

Absolutely right, jw, but a loss against a team we should beat (jests, for example, stick out to me) and we're back to being trash again...It's great to hear the good reviews and accolades, but to be consistent in winning...that's the key...

We've been a .500 team for a long time now. We've lacked relevance and not merited National discussion.

That being said, I don't really care about what some guys at ESPN think. Its nice to see more highlights on Sportscenter. I'll admit I care about that.

Bottom line is we have a pretty killer six game stretch coming up starting with Detroit and the second half of our division games.

We've got to pull an upset or two and beat the Bills imo.

If we can go 4-2 in that stretch then we're talking a pretty strong team. If we go 3-3, we still have a shot at the playoffs.

I hate the talk from ESPN - in part because they always and only talk about who is hottest at the moment. There's never been a network more focused on the "now" than ESPN and all that is is 15 minutes of sports crap. What matters is the 2nd half of the season and winning that.

I love how we are playing, though. But, still ...

Most of the media types are bandwaggoners. Before the game they said the Chargers were a superior team and picked them to win handidly. Now they changed their tune

There won't be too many teams to upset if we beat the Lions next week...because we'll be favorites in all the rest of the games except for the Pats and Broncos.

True. These weeks are the weeks Miami let's their fans down. As soon as they get good press, fan support, they crash and burn. Week 10 is an important one for us.

All I care about is that the Dolphins have finally arrived. We are watching good fun football, we have the system and a team that can contend. We are set, just need to keep improving consistency. Finally, we've suffered for decades watching boring losing football with no end in sight, no hope, we are out of the tunnel.

I'm with most here. I could care less. Remember when Tom Jackson told the world that Patriots players "Hated their coach." Yeah, then they went on to win the Super Bowl for this coach they "hated." These idiots have to fill hours of time so they just throw **** at the wall. If the narrative changes, they don't care. On to the next game. I trust what my eyes see and what I know. What some clown on tv says after not following the Dolphins at all means nothing to me.

The difference between this team and recent years past is the margin of victory. We're winning in convincing fashion. All 5 wins have impressively been by at least 13 points, with an avg margin of victory of 20.2 points. Last year's 8-6 start on the other hand featured just 2 wins by 13+ points and had an avg margin of victory of 7.1 pts, with 5 games won by 4 pts or less. We were 8-6 but we were essentially still a .500 team, and we finished the season as such. This year's 5-3 start isn't much different on paper than 8-6, but now we're actually playing like a legitimate 5-3 team.

Even the 2008 11-5 team won just 2 games by 13+ points and averaged a 7.3 pt margin of victory, and that was against a gift-from-the-Gods schedule. Our total margin of victory this year through 5 wins is already 20 pts more than the 2008 team had in 11 wins. Heck, we're a Davante Adams tackle away from beating Brady, Rodgers, and Rivers over an 8 game stretch.

Exactly. I enjoy sports talk radio, nfl.com, sportscenter and such, and it's more enjoyable for me when the Dolphins are the subject of conversation (unless it's for bullygate or something of course).

I'm in the "couldn't care less" group. ESPN and most of the media are nothing more than scoreboard watchers.

Seriously, I know the Defense follows the Media so it was always times like these, that the Dolphins laid absolute eggs even going back to the Marino and Zach Thomas era and as recently as 2013 after a 3 game win streak against the Jets, Pittsburgh and NE. It's best the team stay as isolated and focused as possible and not get complacent because they haven't accomplished their goal yet and if they back off now, they won't have accomplished anything.

I agree, I am in the "I don't want the media's attention group" The media likes to jump on our bandwagon after we do well and jumps right off if we don't. I like what Jared Odrick had to say and I hope the whole team feels and acts the same way. We have something special cooking here in Miami and I want our players to keep grinding away and to not drink the koolaide. As long as our boys keep "playing like crazed dogs" as Deej likes to say, we will continue to play well..I much earlier picked us to go into Denver 7-3 with us having a great chance to beat the Broncos as long as we put heavy pressure on Manning in which he has a tendency to get rattled and start throwing int's which will give us great field position and lead us to the "upset." We need to go into Detroit with our lunch pails and stay very focused and play our Strong Defense and our OL play tough and give Tanny time and for him to stay focused and keep moving in the pocket like he has been doing of late and take off running when nothing is there and we CAN and WILL come out of Detroit with the VICTORY. GO FINS!!!!
