I am saying this for this reason. The Patriots defeated the Broncos and we already beaten NE once so far. Based on these facts, if the Dolphins win out not only will they be in the playoffs, they will have the #1 seed with home field advantage. I like those odds if we can pull that off.

What are your thoughts on that?

Winning out seems improbable, but it does seem like this team can beat any team out there, including Denver and we already showed we can beat NE.

Just keep winning please. Crazy how crowded the AFC is right now. If we keep winning, it will sort itself out.

I don't know if there's a 13-3 team this season. Denver got curb stomped and while New England is good, they can be beaten. I like Arizona but I don't 13-3 like them.

I think its waaaaay too early to pull out "they control their own destiny" talk, mostly because almost all of the teams in the NFL do control their own destiny at this point of the season. The only teams that it don't apply to is teams like the Jets and Bucs, because their destiny is already obvious.

I think the bottom line is Denver was at NE in the snow, doesn't have a great run gane and their defense is built to win when they acore points and keep the other team mainly one dimensional. I wanted Denver to win but in retrospect it was never likely.

I think people need to remain calm. We are a good team that stomped an above average team yesterday. we are good enough to contend for a playoff spot but I wouldn't call us good enough to run any kind of gauntlet, especially the next 6 games.
I see New England getting the #1 seed. they are in a very good rhythm right now. If Gronk stays healthy would be the caveat.
    -We need to beat Baltimore.
    We need to beat Buffalo.
We need to beat the Jets twice and Minny once. ...that gets us to 10 wins and maybe a wildcard spot with the crazy AFC right now.
If we can pull off one upset vs Detroit, New England or Denver, the you get 11 wins and ensure a playoff spot. I don't see us sweeping New England and I don't see us winning in Denver. our best shot is Detroit.
With Megatron and Bush likely healthy, I think we lose in Detroit. end up with 10 wins and the final wild card spot.

My thoughts are it is highly unlikely.

The way the Pats and Steelers are playing right now. We will be shooting for a 11-5 wild card.

You know who also controls its own destiny? The Bills. I think that says it all. But hey, at least we are not the Jets.
I just want this team to continue to play like they did the last 5 weeks. Not everything was great but when things went wrong they kept fighting. That's a team I can enjoy watching.

Dreaming of 8-0 seems pie in the sky to me, but 5-3 again seems very doable. Just as importantly, if we go 3-2 over the next five while New England goes 2-2 (look at their schedule, its not impossible), then the game in Foxboro sets up for the Division Crown. We'd have the tiebreaker and home games vs Minn and the Jets left at that point.

Don't forget we own the tiebreaker with NE if it comes down to it. I think we will beat NE. We are not the same team that beat them in September. I think we will surprise some people if we keep playing like this and I think we will.

How do we own the tiebreaker? We still have to play them and the rest of our division again. We own nothing.

I think we can beat any team in the league. That being said, I can understand not counting any games as wins for us, but I'm also not going to count any games as wins for the other teams.

These teams in the AFC race play each other plenty of times... I think people are forgetting that.

    CIN [5-2-1] - CLE | NO | HOU | TB | PIT | CLE | DEN | PIT
    PIT [6-3-0] - NYJ | TEN | BYE | NO | CIN | ATL | KC | CIN
    KC [5-3-0] - BUF | SEA | OAK | DEN | ARZ | OAK | PIT | SD
    CLE [5-3-0] - CIN | HOU | ATL | BUF | IND | CIN | CAR | BAL
    BUF [5-3-0] - KC | MIA | NYJ | CLE | DEN | GB | OAK | NE
    MIA [5-3-0] - DET | BUF | DEN | NYJ | BAL | NE | MIN | NYJ
    SD [5-4-0] - BYE | OAK | STL | BAL | NE | DEN | SF | KC
    BAL [5-4-0] - TEN | BYE | NO | SD | MIA | JAX | HOU | CLE

Basically... it's going to play out where ten wins will more than likely be enough for a sixth seed. These teams will beat each other up, there will be upsets, and this team just needs to worry about taking care of business and going 5-3 in their next eight games IMO.

EDIT: For those wondering... teams in red are in "the hunt" for a wild card (basically I'm assuming NE, DEN, and IND win their division), teams in bold are above .500, and teams italicized are away games.

The Broncos suddenly look beatable. With the Fins pass rush Manning could have trouble.

As GIK34 points out, we are in a decent position ... And we DO control our destiny fr either the DIV or WC!

Can't fall asleep though, as BAL + PIT have relatively easy schedules remaining ...

CIN, KC, BUF + CLE all have tough remaining schedules ....

Bottom line .... Can't lose more than 3, and need to beat BUF + BAL along with NYJ, MIN, NYJ to seal the deal ....

I'm not convinced yet that 10-6 will do it...hate to say it, but I have a feeling 11-5 will be needed to lock in a spot. I think Pitt will be a lock, 4 division winners, leaving 1 spot to fight for with KC/Balt being right in it, maybe even Buffalo. I know it's getting ahead a bit, but that's why I really think Buffalo/Baltimore are 100% must-win games. Excited to see how it all shakes out...at least we're in week 10 and have a real chance of making a playoff push.

If Pittsburgh wins the North, that would leave two spots. They play the Bengals twice in December. That could eliminate the Bengals.

Would love to see that...though I hate the Steelers...they could really help our situation. Could very well happen, Cincy's without some serious players in the coming weeks.

Every team controls their own destiny during the season. Even if their destiny ends up being 16-0 or 0-16.

While I believe the Dolphins could beat any team on any given day. I also think they could lose to any team in the NFL on any given day. That is just the way it is in the NFL.

So I think the chance of them winning out is very unlikely. I just don't see them going into Denver or New England and winning those games.

Therefore I see them with at least five losses. That means they will probably have to win at least 5 out of 6 from their remaining opponents to get to 10 wins and possibly get a wildcard spot in the playoffs.

We all hope they win out, but I think any Dolphin fan would gladly take ten wins and a playoff spot and see where things go from there, once the playoff season begins.

With so many teams in the AFC having winning records at this time, it could take 11 wins to be a wildcard team, but I still think 10 wins should be enough. If the Dolphins do win 10 games and fail to get a wildcard spot, that would certainly be a major bummer but I would still consider the season a success.

I felt going into the season that the Dolphins needed to make the playoffs for Philbin to be retained and for Tannehill to keep his position next year. I think both of them have improved greatly as this season has progressed and as long as the team doesn't fall apart over the next 8 games, it appears they both will be a part of the team for many years to come.

I certainly wouldn't be calling for their replacements if this team goes 10-6 and they still don't make the playoffs. Ten wins would certainly be enough to show me that this team is headed in the right direction.

I think that it depends on how things end up. Right now things are good. Imagine if we get to 9 by winning at New England, and then choke away the final two to miss the playoffs. I think he'd be gone then, regardless of winning record.

I am very happy to be seemingly relevant again. We put together some very nice games. But it's hard to believe in being a powerhouse right now, and that's essentially what we are talking about. Sundays sure have been fun though!

If we win out we are 13-3 and have swept the Pats, then the Pats would have a wild card and we would be AFC East champs.

Yes we would win our division at 13-3 and we do need Kansas City to lose 1 more if we win out because of head to head.

Hey I am saying all of this, saying ahead of time that we will own the tiebreaker and could possibly win out. I just believe we can do it. It's not that I am lacking information. This is just the fan in me believing that is possible and I am going on a limb here and saying that it will happen.
