Nobody made a lowlight reel of Big Ben & Mike Wallace misconnections because..

On the other hand, Tannehill & Mike Wallace had enough lowlights for someone to assemble this video..

I don't know where people are coming up with this idea.

Most of the Mike Wallace "deep ball in stride" plays I've seen feature Big Ben doing a simple dropback, no scrambling, and heaving the ball deep to Wallace, in stride.

    Interesting.

After a quick search of draft profiles, it seems many pundits were almost unanimous in questioning Tannehill's deep balls. I think it's just not one of his strengths, but that's okay. He finally has enough games under his belt where hopefully we can start to see improvement.

Obviously these are just certain individuals' opinions from 2012, but they include some respected sources like draftbreakdown, Matt Miller, and thephins' own, Alen. I think most of those profiles are pretty accurate, especially if you read them in their entirety.

Also, although it doesn't talk about his deep ball, this is a kinda awesome pre-draft profile of Ryan with a Dan Marino perspective:

    Food for thought nonetheless.

Excellent read, I agree that everyone should read it.

Tannehill has a .500 record. He has an excellent opportunity to make it better. Do. Or not do. There is no try.

Yeah, a video with 10 or so passes...and about half were completed

It also didn't show the bomb that Wallace was interfered on in the OT game vs. the Bengals, which was a perfect pass and actually set up the walk-off safety. Or one of the best, most athletic plays I've seen in my life at the end of the Panthers game when Tannehill put it on his hands which if caught may have put us in the postseason. This was a video showing 5 deep ball incompletions, one or two of which could have been interference, and another 2 or so that could've actually been caught.

Oddly enough, most of the plays on this "lowlights" video, look wildly similar to plays on the Steelers highlight video I posted earlier. Why does one team's fans celebrate the plays, and another team's makes a "lowlight" video of them?

How is the debate still going after this ^ post?

This proves EXACTLY what we're saying in regards to Tannehill struggling to connect deep.

I like Tanny but you are exactly right. So he struggles with a deep ball....O'well, he's evolving in enough other areas to compensate for that shortcoming. But it's always comical to see posters just not want to accept that and instead pretend like the issue is with a WR who has done it many times before and that we see open deep quite regularly.

I think you are pretending that people are pretending that. From what I've seen and said myself, the people that oppose the point of view you and others have, is that Tannehill is not horrible at it, he is not great at it, he is average at it. The elite QB's have relatively the same percentage at deep balls as he does. But I guess if we don't agree that he is horrible at it, it is assumed we think he is great at it. This is all non sense. It's a moot point, the numbers back up the fact that he is not bad or good at it. Who care's? We are winning games, we have a winning record, there is a great chance we make the playoffs, We have the #2 defense in the league, if you look at the numbers for the past 6 games Tannehill is in great company with the elite QB's in this league, but yet we keep having negative threads like this with false statements with nothing to back it up.

So the fact that Wallace's two Dolphins seasons will basically mirror his final season with the Steelers and Roethlisberger means what? Was that Tannehill too?

I posted a Steelers highlight video when Wallace time after time had to come back, or adjust, or dive...same as the Dolphins "low light" video. My point isn't anything against Wallace...he does get open...the point is that these throws are low percentage throws and even the very best only hit them in stride occasionally.

Say he gets behind the D 4 times per game and is the fastest guy on the field. That is 64 times a season. Why has he had only 10 TDs in his best year with a top deep ball thrower if these perfect 50 yard bombs are always so successful? I know this is crazy sounding, but it literally sounds like this is what some of you expect.

Are you guys sure he is the exact same player he was 5 seasons ago? If he gets 11 TDs this year and beats his career best, will you ask what Big Ben was doing wrong?

I would love to see a couple more big plays in the passing game, but you have to wonder what other teams think of our passing game. Now I don't analyze any tapes, but here is what I know.
    • Our running game is solid, still there are not a lot of 8 man fronts.
    • We move the ball well until we get into the redzone, which to me is an indication that defenses respect the deep ball at least enough. Now I understand we are missing a big TE, but if we were not able to stretch defenses vertically, we would struggle between the 20-yard lines, too.
    • We struggle in the redzone, which also tells me that we don't have a great running game and the good average yardage has more to do with defenses respecting the pass instead of our oline dominating the LOS.
I'm very interested in the second Pats game. We were running on them all day and they refused to put an eigth man in the box until the very end. What will they do this time?

The only thing I'm arguing is with the natural haters of the man who love to blame 11 for these issues. Everyone recognizes its a low percentage play, but in 2 years Ryan has failed to hit one of the best burners in the league deep in stride even one time....you would think it would've happened by accident at this point.

Thats not accurate at all. Really...when say something like that...not hitting ANY of them..it makes it hard to discuss or take anything you say very seriously.

20 yard passes are intermediate distance. Compare the low pct 40+ yd throws. RT basically never tries those to anyone but Wallace, which pulls his overall pct down when comparing all passes that are 20+ yards.
