What if he wins 9 or 10 games and misses the playoffs? Like those Ricky Williams teams in the early naughts. At this point anything less than 9 wins is a huge disappointment for sure.
The problem is, that against the Broncos, Ravens and Patriots and maybe even the jests D, we'd never recover from a slow start. Our D has played just well enough...afterall, they did give away the Lions game. And you're right, they have come out and been able to recover from the slow starts the last several games, but we still can't depend on them coming out fired up yet...that is Philbin's MO...keep a steady even keel and that, in the long run, doesn't work in the NFL... I hope they just continue on the way they're playing now, but can we really depend on that happening, given Philbin's teams history ?? I don't think so...
Philbin isn't going anywhere, barring an epic collapse. I think the talent won't allow anything epic to happen. I think we have 11-12 win talent, and a 6-8 win head coach. 9-7 and he stays, and I think we have 9-7 written all over us.
I don't know, we might bee seeing a different team lately.. if it was last season's team, we'd have probably lost the Bills game and maybe even the Jacksonville game (which is equivalent to the Bucs game last year), it may be too early to tell, but it looks like this team is finally winning the games we should as well as the ones we have to.
Yeah, I'm quietly optimistic too, but like I said in one of my other posts, I can't get the bad taste out of my mouth of Philbin coached teams (heretofore) coming out flat when they simply should not...
Well it seems like the fans here are content with it...they'd prefer to keep a guy who isn't even qualified to be a head coach in this league rather than pursue one of the 3 best coaches in football.
Man that's some journalism, first they said they are pursuing him based on random thought, no sources just trying to connect their own dots, and now that we're in the playoff hunt, we're not pursuing him anymore! The day that a journalist publishes an article admitting they were bs'ing and wrong will be the first one.
I dont see Philbin losing his job at this point. The team seems different right now. They are starting to play like they really want it on the field. Sure Philbin has made some bonehead moves the most egregious being the timeouts against Green Bay but overall I think he has done a much better job. Just cant see replacing him right now but then there is alot of football left. An epic collapse like last year and he will most definately be on the street, but let me ask this; If we manage to get a win in Denver this week will you all still feel the same?
Denver is irrelevant in the larger scheme. if we beat them and miss the playoffs he goes. If we lose to them and make the playoffs he stays. Pretty simple, really.
