Guardians of the Universe... other than the cheesy intro, was surprisingly good. I was a bit skeptical of the movie, but really found myself enjoying it.

Got kicks out of the 80's movies references to TMNT and Footloose and some of the other humor and the music. My youngest liked it so much I had to get her the soundtrack for the movie.

To me it was what Green Lantern should have been and best of all, no Ryan Reynolds. lol...

Just got back from seeing Fury tonight and was griping about the same thing you mentioned in your spoiler. But it was a great movie, the tank battles were sweet and left me wanting more. Too bad there weren't more, best parts of the movie as far as I'm concerned.

Finally relented and watched Godzilla... heard it was bad, but didn't expect it to be this massive nuclear blast size of a steaming pile of GoJira dung...

5 mins into it, I was done with this stupid move and spent the rest of the movie lampooning the story and actors with my kids - which was far more entertaining than the movie or the stupid (over)acting. Who read this script and said, "Yes! We need to make this!"

And what is up with the creatures? Their eyes look like they were designed by Audi as a new style of tail lights. They also have these weirdly long and skinny limbs and look like they were based on werewolves from Underworld half transformed except they crawl around on their wrist-like joints... And, while they are slim, trim, and angular, Godzirra himself has these has short stubby arms and major fat *** thighs that only John Madden could love. Godzirra must've been eating some nuclear cupcakes and lots of them. Fatboy needs to diet and his face looked like a hairless bulldog.

And what was the conflict between Godzirra and these critters again? Did their awakening disturb Godzilla somehow? Is it like Highlander where they sense each other and there can be only one? (Species of MUTO in this case?) Were they taking his Nuclear cupcakes when we missed it with the ridiculous over acting from Ford and his wife, Chevy? One critter was hatched ala Frankenstein's monster because some scientist's decided to nuke and electrify it because that is what scientists do? Yeah... and they other critter hatched because it was stored with nuclear (new-clur) waste and the mating cry caused a metamorphosis to MUTO from chrysalis, then lays waste to Vegas... Who wrote this shat?

Anyways, doing what all MUTOs do, these two MUTOs are simply trying to settle down, eat some nuclear subs the military keeps supplying them while starting a family when Godzilla, ahole that he is, decides "Oh, Hell no! Not on my watch!!" and like a murdering neighbor comes over and starts some domestic violence against the female. While he is curb stomping her with one of his flabby, whale sized legs, her ma MUTO heroically comes, literally, flying in to save his woman... to no avail, as Gozirra ends up tail whipping him thru a building and firing his superman like laser beams down her throat before ripping her head off... weird that in this PC correct society, that they would allow this to happen on film. I mean, think of the children for God's sake!!! :shifty:

lol... anyways, this movie sucked a bag...

    Anyone heard from Nabo?

John Wick... this movie didn't know what it was or what it wanted to be... maybe because it had 2 directors, maybe because it a montage of other movies... It felt like one of these movies where guys kept saying 'Hey, what if we did 'this' right here" and one of the director's took a hit and said "F**k yeah".

Guy has wife. Wife dies of disease. Guy gets dog. Guy loves dog. Guy has really awesome Ford Boss 429 he likes to rag out. Ruskie punk wants it. Guy says no. Ruskie breaks in, beats up guy, kills dog, and steal's car. Guy ends up being the "guy you send to kill to kill the boogeyman". Game - on. Guy kills like 60 people in this movie. Guy get's new dog at end. Who saw that coming?

My name... is John Wick. You killed my dog. Prepare to DIE!!! lol...

Great action and fight scenes where Wick was practicing "Gun-fu" where he was fighting with guns constantly. Some of the fight scenes didn't make any sense though, like why fight at all, or to the death, when you could just shoot them to start with ala Indy Jones and be done with it? Would have made much more sense and been way cooler. And the "evil" chic. Just kill her.

Also, what is it when a guy can snap off deadly head shots across a crowded room on the run while injured, but can't nail his antagonist at all until the end of the movie in a very anti-climatic scene.

Some of the story was borrowed from other movies.
Like the whole revenge over a dog thing. Back when Alec Baldwin was making cool movies, he did this in "Thick As Theives", a really cool little flick no one ever heard of back in the 90s. Guy has a dog. Guy loves his dog. Really, really loves his dog. Antagonist kills his dog. Somebody's gonna pay/die. Lot's of somebody's.

Other parts were straight out Mel Gibson's "Payback".

Entire opening 15 mins of the movie was a trailer park of bad/funny cliche's and stolen scenes. It felt like a chic-flick with all the crying and touchy-feely BS before the action finally starts. Dark/wintry/overcast/rainy/guys standing in the rain at funeral... deja vu...

You're left wondering how Keanu Reeves ended up in a script that was so meant for Nicholas Cage. lol... And the Ruskies... really? They're more typecast and stereotyped than Italians/Mafioso types.

Couldn't stop laughing when the badass Ruskie Don was singing about the "Boogeyman"... how stupid.

To it's credit, some of the fight scenes were totally fkn awesome.
Mostly the one in his house where they send in like a dozen guys, but even it reminded you of "Leon, The Professional" from the 90s where you know to start with how it's gonna end. Still, really cool fighting/kill scenes, especially the last one with the knife where he rabbit punching into the guys chest.

Still, have a few drinks, expect cliches, expect to know how it's gonna play out, laugh at the humor. I'd watch it again, although I'll fast forward straight thru to where the action starts and thru anything with the Ruskie Don talking/singing... on second thought, just watch Payback
where the dog doesn't die, just the bad guys

    10/10

Let's get this out of the way... The movie is a half hour too long. Some of the movie can be confusing. There are a few plot holes. The dialog can be a little clunky. How is it a 10/10? Because despite it's flaws, it NEVER stops being amazing. It's breath taking, emotional, scientific (doesn't violate laws of physics or based on real theory), inspiring, fantastically acted, fantastically directed, and the visuals are insane... It's everything. It's a jack of all trades and nearly a master of everything. Interstellar is the equivalent of a grand slam.

Hipsters will hate it. It's Christopher Nolan after all. It's cool to hate on him now. But Interstellar is what going to the movies is all about. Best movie of 2014. Can't wait to see it again.

I'm not gonna act like I really understood much of the scientific dialogue in Interstellar, yet it was probably one of the best 2 hr 45 minutes I have ever spent in a movie theater.

Lots of maternal themes, and the monster is more metaphorical than actual. But goddamn, effective horror. Aussie film. Really took me by surprise. Lots of tension. Best horror of the year if you ask me. Incomplete thoughts in sentence form.

Starts out kind of slow. A lot of one-liner, "we want to remind you of who these characters are" type moments. Once the story picks up, it's pretty decent. Not as good as the first one, but the first one is legendary. There was no way to top it and DDto suffers next to it. I still enjoyed it for what it was. Carey and Daniels were excellent. Both are underrated, IMO. I'd watch it again.

    Loved interstellar.

'St Vincent' was heartwarming and amusing. It's a good movie to take your mom to.

'Birdman' felt like a play. Very verbose, about an hour too long, I'd called it neo-artsy. I've never seen so many people walk out of a theater.

    The Babadook: 7/10

Australian horror film. It has received tremendous reviews and I was excited to see it. The movie is actually quite good, despite my 7/10 rating. Unlike most horror movies, this film is about something, which does layer the film quite nicely. It has its scary moments, but overall it wasn't that scary. I didn't really enjoy the ending though. Kind of been there, done that. I wouldn't put it above "Sinister." The two main actors (one of who is a child) are awesome. They do such a great job, it really brings you into the story.

    Worth a look.

This documentary was riveting, engaging, and immersive. It could have been edited a little better in regards to its transition as a movie, but the footage you see embeds you into the unit and at times you forget you're watching a doc. You get a good look into the war in Afghanistan, its challenges, unique battlefronts, but more importantly you get to be a soldier as you watch. It is that part of the documentary that elicits you to feel the camaraderie between these guys at times overshadows the war itself, or why the soldiers are there in the first place.

I recommend it to anybody. If you like this kind of stuff, I highly recommend Restrepo too. Very well done documentary in the Korengal Valley - the most dangerous place on earth they say. Here is Restrepo.
