The guy he punched, as I recall, was a jerk and he really had it coming, but even so, players just cannot do that. Boise State during about 3-4 year run around that time, was a dirty dirty cheap shot team. Nothing that happened when playing them would surprise me. I think it was the season before that incident, Boise State knocked 2 Oregon QBs out of a game with blatant cheap shots. I despised them as much as Blount did.
So? World Peace or Artest, he is still a ticking time bomb. What he did in that game, attacking and punching fans in the stands, he should have been banned forever from the NBA.
You have to run a really tight ship to get a guy like Blount on your team. We are talking zero tolerance here, no second chances - i'm not sure that Philbin is this type of guy (the way he handled to the so-called Bullygate was friggin' awful - allowed it to get blown way out of proportion by not dealing with it internally and properly when he had the chance). He can be a useful addition if he feels like he is contributing - lets be honest here, lots of players are quite happy to take the paycheck and ride the bench on Sundays - he can definitely make some stuff work between the tackles in the cold weather. I think Pagano might take a look at him.
You must not have seen the part where some nice fan threw his beer at the guy, cup and all. Blount was trying to knock out team mates for holding him back after punching out a guy who said something to him.
The players dont want him according to Mando. They dont want a selfish player .They dont want to upset the chemistry in the lockeroom which is good apparently.
I've seen the entire mess that involved Artest and what Blount did against Boise State pales in comparison. To say Blount makes Artest look like anyone great like Gandhi in comparison is just utter nonsense.
And if this is true it's the best reason/argument I've heard for not bringing the guy in. He's a total headcase and comes with a lot of problems but if you can rent a guy with that sort of power and ability for a few weeks I say you do it. However if the lockeroom already doesn't want the guy then its a non starter.
If the players don't want him - that usually is not an issue - then that gives me pause. But, not a fan of Thomas and Blount could really y obe a force in short yardage. I also don't think it would be as big a negative if we signed him. Blount has had periods where he was not a scoundrel and I suspect whoever signed him and said to him - "you're not going to be a starter but we're going to use you in short yardage ... take it or leave it." And I suspect it would be different in that situation. For many of these players, expectations are the key. Not justifying Blount but if a player like him signs with a team at the start of the year and expects to start, and doesn't - he's going to get frustrated and blow up. But, coming in in the 2nd half of the year as a reserve - that's a different scenario. I sure would like to see someone else other than Thomas. Signing a big back for short yardage does nothing to D.Williams' work, however.
I agree with you that Artest never should have played in the NBA again, let alone gone on to make millions more but that doesn't make Blount a good guy. Blount has talent yet he's been kicked off of a college team (and rightfully so, that sucker punch could have seriously hurt that guy permanently) and bounced off of what 4 teams now? And he literally quit on the Steelers in a game they WON and somehow this guy is a player we actually should sign? Not following it at all.
While he would be a difference maker relative to Thomas, it's not worth it to me. I'd rather promote D Williams to #2 and bring in Ben Tate as #3. Tate isn't as talented as Blount, but Tate obviously has excelled under our Oline coach. He would be insurance in case we hit some injuries at the end of the season.
Blount should not have punched out the BSU player, even though he probably deserved it. He should not have left the sidelines for the Steelers. I am not sure we should sign him, though will defer to Hickey on this since he was involved with Tampa signing Blount. But, Artest is a ******* freak, going up into the stands and attacking fans. Granted having beer thrown on him isn't cool, but that still does not justify the reaction. As long as the fans stay off the court and not doing anything to put a player in mortal danger they are off limits, To say Blount makes Artest look like Gandhi in comparison is ridiculous.
I would love to see the Dolphins replace Thomas with a back who can get the tough yards up the middle and near the goal line, but I just don't think Blount is a good fit for this team. He seems to be more concerned with himself than he is with his team. I just don't see him as a player who would come in and be a team player. Hopefully the Dolphins can find that big back after this season in the draft or free agency, but they should pass on Blount at this time.
Its a 6 game rental... I don't give a **** about college, Ron arrest, etc... I don't even know why we are talking about that crap. Bottom line, Lamar Millet is 1 nice hit from IR. Daniel Thomas is a powerback with no power. Blount would ne a great addition. Especially in the redone and 4th quarter where a bruiser can do damage. No brainer.
Well everyone in the NFL is one nice hit from IR including Tannehill. But I agree, he's an upgrade over anyone on our team not named Miller, hell he's better than Miller in a lot of things. With our offensive line, he is very necessary for Tannehill to get that extra half a second.
Right. My point about Miller was related to his shoulder. Not to mention general durability issues in college.
Well, hopefully we will actually use him... And really, I have a hard time believing he'll do it again. For 5-6 games @ 10 carries a game or whatever. Worth it. Imo. In b4 NE picks him up and he goes off... again.
I did. Until Blount goes into the stands attacking fans, he does not make Artest look like Gandhi in comparison.
why? He's obviously not doing multiple dick moves, hence all the talk about said multiple dick moves. As for NE quick, how many guys have they picked up that busted? Bet you don't keep track of that do ya.
6 games (maybe a playoff game). I'm not saying we should invest our future into him. Given present circumstances, Miami could use Blount. If he's trouble, you cut him and move on. The risk, which isn't even that great (seriously, this whole thread is about a college punch thrown years ago) is worth the upside for the final stretch. .
He's signed a 2 year deal with New England, according to Ben Volin https://twitter.com/BenVolin/status/535423342678134784 Sent from my Nexus 10 using Tapatalk
Whats Fishy?...we could have claimed him and did not...if we do not want him, we should not claim him to keep him off the Pats.
Whatever dude..we could have used him in my opinion.. Which in the grand scheme of things..means nothing..I would never back New England's play however..but that's just me..TEHO
hickey knows him first hand from tampa, if we didn´t sign him or even put a claim in for him, than i´m ok with it
Good move for them, not that anyone should be surprised. Really can't believe we didnt ditch Thomas for either Blount or Tate. Maybe we put a claim in for Tate, but Vikes would have had priority even if we did as far as I know. Oh well.. Daniel Thomas lives on in Miami!
