There are a lot of threads out there. Quick blurbs of frustration and disappointment. But...we ARE better aren't we?

Isn't there something about this year's team?

We are better this year. I feel it in my gut, this is the best we have been in a long time. Marino era long. And I think why is that it comes down to points. When you score more than you allow, you simply win. And through 11 games, we are pretty dominant in this stat.
Now, I am not a stat guy, but look at these sloppy and confusing numbers I compiled.

    Year - Record
    2014 6-5. +66 net points(np) 6th in NFL.

    2013 8-8. -18 np 8 teams had better than our current +66 in 2013.

    2012 7-9. -29 np 10 teams had better than +66 in 2012.

    2011 6-10. +16 np 9 teams better than +66 2011.

    2010 7-9. -60 np 7 teams better than +66 in 2010.

This shows how different of a team we have been this season. We are better, we score better.

We currently have 285 points for (pf) 219 points against(pa)

In 2013 we had 317(pf) - 335(pa) all season, that is only 32 more points than we currently have with 5 games to go. 26 pf/gm - 20 pa/gm allowed = 416 points for and 320 points against average over a 16 game season.

On Pace for 416 PF and 320 PA and a +94 net. This is our pace.

Usually a +100 net range is reserved for elite team. 5 or 6 teams a year achieve that. Never do double digit number of teams have 100+ net points.

Let's look at us the years past:
    Year pf - pa
    2014 285-219

    2014 pace 416-320

    2013 315-335

    2012 288-317

    2011 329-313 (Sparano fired mid-season)

    2010 273-333

    2009 360-390

    2008 345-317 (play-offs w/ Penny)

Our defense is par for the course, but our offense? Not even close. Granted we varied quite a bit ver the years, but Lazor and Tannehill have us playing way better this year. Scoring way better this year. We are .3 points away from 6th in the NFL is points per game. In our remaining 5 games, 3 are against lousy competition.

Just think there is a lot to be hopeful about, along with RT17's 2500 yds 20tds and 93.5 qbr

    Thanks

FYI, the last time we had this kind of success was the 2000 season, with a +97 net, and 11-5 record and AFC East title.

Honestly, I don't need stats to see that this team is world's better than we've had in recent years. While I understand that we have to go through the "apocalypse is coming" types of posts since we lost a game to the best team in the league today, Miami certainly stood toe to toe with Denver and looked damn good with 3rd stringers on the field. There is absolutely no doubt that this is a special group that will only get better in time.

I feel we are two players away from being elite. One on offense, one on defense.

We need one 5-star player at RB, WR, or TE... as in a Ricky Williams, a Larry Fitzgerald, or a Rob Gronkowski.

AND we need one 5-star MLB or DT... as in a Zach Thomas or Vince Wilfork.

Either way, I feel we will grow into a genuine playoff team next season.

I agree, I think a tall, big bodied receiving threat is a need, as is a stud MLB.

Going forward, we will need to do our best at replenishing the D, where it is aging. Offense is exciting though. We need to retain Lazor by all means. The points are going up on the board. Yes there are 5 games left, and who knows what will happen...but the pace is for 416 points. We haven't scored over 400 points since 1986. Just sayin.

I'll believe it if this team can win their way into the playoffs the rest of the way.

Glaring needs: Better/healthier corner depth, Safety to partner with Jones, Keep retooling the OL, TE and a big breakaway WR to replace Hartline.

Absolutely. I was thinking about this on the drive to work this morning. I don't feel bad about this team, only disappointed in the loss. The team is showing they are a good team. They just need couple pieces to make that leap to beat elite teams. They hang tougher than most against them. This was Denver AT HOME. What we have right now is not something anyone should be thinking about blowing up.

Tannehill at 20 tds with 5 games left. 30+ is a likely possibility.

Hmm I wonder who the last Miami Dolphins qb was to eclipse that mark...

i refuse to believe that with all the separation I saw yesterday that the performance was indicative of the talent..I think we weren't communicating well, i think we were dealing with altitude issues, I think we played conservative once we lost our 2nd corner, i think the broncos were throwing illegal picks on crossers, and i think that dion jordan is fat..lol

Banged up, out matched, and flat as hell. It happens. This is still an awesome D. A D that can crush a weak opponent. It is not a coincidence that all our wins have been by a wide margin. Next Monday will be no different.

Beat the Fu&&in Jets!!! Stomp their Gang Green A$$. I for one am proud to date of our 2014 Miami Dolphins.Yesn we are 6-5 but easily could be 9-2 and keep in mind that this had been with all of our injuries and one of the toughest schedules in the league. Our D was totally winded at mile high but the will be back this week, and our offense, my goodness are they playing lights out! I think they will continue to improve and we hit New England at 8-5 and beat them to get our first against "elite" status team and look out.
They might lose to Green Bay this week and I am not sure who they play the following week but guys & gals....I'm telling you " the FAT LADY has' nt sung yet ! "......LET'S GO FINS !!!!

I'm not sure missing the play-offs this season will mean we are the same old mediocre Fins. There are a preposterous 16 teams with 7 wins right now. That is insane. Thanks NFC South.

We only played 3 teams this season under .500. And the Bears are 5-6, just under. It has been a ridiculous gauntlet of challenging games. But since week 3, we have shown up every single week. And I'm happy with that. That is good enough for me, as we continue to improve. I want a good team, a tough team, who always has a chance to win. You can't ask for anything more, in a sport where only one team can win it all, and more often then not, the best team does not win it all.

I always try to look at things logically. Love this team for what it is, and what I think it needs. From Irish, to Ross, to Gloria Estefan...whatever... I believe and feel what my gut tells me. If you would have told me in July that, at Manning's best, we lost by 3 points IN DENVER, in the end of November, I'd have done cartwheels. Really really sh!tty cartwheels.

I see a good team rising the Defense and Oline have injuries that show up right now but overall the team is looking better. Finnigan,Taylor, is a concern and Moreno would have helped spice up things a bit more. Now we have the left side of the Oline falling apart this is concerning if we make it to the playoffs I feel it will be a weak link.

I don't see the difference. If I were a Browns fan I would definitely feel a difference, that's how a team progresses from one year to the next. Our team, once again, has the talent to make the playoffs and yet many of the games were lost by the coach which is keeping us out of the playoffs and out of the division race.

A different coach would have us still fighting with the Patriots right now. 3 games out with 5 to go, it's the Patriots again.

(edited, sorry I thought Buffalo was 7-4)

New England is the best team in the league right now. But I digress, if the game last Sunday is in Miami instead of the mountains we win. We have a shot at really making a run at the division and the AFC next season IMO.
