Yeh.. Thats what alot of people are saying. The ball was still placed exactly where it needed to be.. Regardless if it brushed the shoulder pad.. And had Landry arm not been held.. He would have gotten both hands up to catch the ball.

I have been impressed with his stretches of completed passes in multiple games this season. In one game he had what, 14 in a row to start and a few other games close to 10 in a row. Great stuff and smart.

Because he hit the receiver in his hands and the ball popped up in the air. Are you suggesting that he now catch his own passes? How is putting the ball in front of the guy in his hands, which then tips off his hands and into the air the quarterback's fault?

    I mean damn.

If the owner does not fire Philbin, then we might. Hickey has gained my trust, and I believe another good offseason will improve the roster enough to make the Dolphins a playoff favorite nest season.

We'll need a very good off season. You can't depend on rookies. They hit walls, they take time adjust etc. Not every single one no, but you get the idea. You need to bring on some vets too, and sign the ones we have coming up for FA.

I'm not into assigning blame. Saying a particular INT is one person's fault isn't a good practice IMO. Landry should have caught the ball. But I also think that Tannehill didn't make a great decision. Landry has a guy draped on him, and it was a contested pass.

You cited 5 qbs to make your assumption that basically they all are regressing..

    Not true..

Kaepernik and Wilson have already proved they were undervalued coming out, the have the big game numbers, championships, champ appearances, playoffs, and critical playmaking ability to prove it..they win games unconventionally at the highest level.

Cam newton is the same to me, never was a fan, don't think hes nearly the passer that Wilson and Kap are..you call it regressed I call it means to an end.

    Rg3 has regressed..and he's an idiot.

There really isn't a lot of these style if qbs, I think in general they have showed that their styles can be successful in this league, and should always be looking for the next one that has the dual threat skill set.

I don't buy the fact that it was contested simply because the ball was completely out of play for everyone except Landry. Nobody could make a play on that ball and you want your QB to be able to beat great coverage with a great throw.

You could very easily say both. Blaming someone or something isn't the way to go. You say things in different ways to get your point across. I haven't seen the all 11 to argue hey, ney or whatever so. Now if the guy does something blatant to directly cause the loss of a game, then you can say 'x' lead to the loss. It have to be a pretty big boo boo - like fumbling on a kneel down and the defender getting a TD off it etc.

  14. CaribPhin

We converted 57% of our trips into TD's last year on 2.9 trips per game. This year we're converting 50% on 4.9 trips per game. If we converted at last year's rate we would score 19.5 points per game from TD's vs this year's 17.15. Red zone percentage doesn't seem to be well correlated with wins though. The top 5 in red zone percentage this season are:

    1. Oakland - Yup
    2. Denver
    3. Atlanta
    4. NYG
    5. Chicago

While a high percentage is great, amount of trips and amount of TD's are very important. Oakland scores on 77% of redzone trips but get less than 2 per game. Honestly, the percentage statistics look random using an eye test. Scoring attempts and total scores seem more correlated with winning, but ultimately you want a healthy mix of all three and a great defense.

your not funny or accurate in your assumptions, but its what you have been doing lately, making grand assumptions and generalizations based on specifics..

please don't tell me about my world, my world has been more accurate than any other world you will find..

I really don't need you stating your exaggerated generalizations based on the fact that I commented on a throw our qb makes.

Your easy to read at this point, you have a problem of taking someones analysis and making it into what you think the person is saying overall, when in reality, the person is just trying to make specific points, be critical while being fair.

why don't you try reading between the lines a bit more and stop trying to protect everything that is dolphin or Ryan related that you interpret as a negative..its deeper than your comprehending.

    check your jests thats all.

your making jokes because why?, I thought years ago that the read option could work on this level and that i wanted a skill set like it on our team, { have I not been justified there} or is it because I continually stress the importance of ryan tannehill using his complete skill set in order for him to be the best qb he can be, and for our offense to be the most effective it can be?..what have I been wrong there?

cause those are the specifics I'm referring to, so if you think those specific points of view deserve your jokes and exaggerations then like brothers do, Im gonna tell ya how I feel..you don't see me running away..

DJ..I know how you feel about running QBs. I was ribbing you about it...like in another post CK said something about Landry Nd I told him his opinion didnt count..because he never liked him. I didnt literally mean his opinion didnt count. I didnt literally mean you never want a QB to throw the ball.

I remember the Tannehill vs Luck vs Wilson vs RG3 vs Kirk Cousins vs Foles Thread.

Some had Tannehill last, 2nd to last behind RG3, but lets reevaluate. Only 3 are starting for an NFL team. Foles is unfair because he is hurt but Cousins and RG3 have no excuse. So yeah Luck was and is still the number one pick if you have to redraft.

Luck: 99.4 RAT 3,641 Yards 29 TDs 10 ints 63.4 comp Easily the best of the group but we all knew that going into the draft
Tannehill: 93.4 RAT 2,582 Yards 20 TDs 8 ints 66.1 comp Not bad Tannehill considering his start. Cant wait to see what he does next year with a full year under this system under his belt.
Russell Wilson:93.0 RAT 2,230 Yards 14 TDs 5 ints 63.6 comp Decent year but is projected to have his worst season in his NFL career minus the ints. He does have a scary amount of fumbles, with 7.
RG3: Not fair to base off stats because he only played 4 full games. But in those games, he only has 2 TDs and 3 interceptions. He just can't stay healthy for a full NFL season. Biggest disappointment in the draft, and he was the Rookie of the Year. Thats why you should wait the 3 years to see what you really have.
Kirk Cousins: 86.4 RAT 1,710 yards 10 TDS 9 ints 61.8 comp* Only played 5 full games in the NFL this season. Not great but not Terrible. I think he will be a great backup in this league. Hard to judge him on his little play in the NFL.
Nick Foles: 81.4 RAT 2,163 yards 13 TDs 10 ints 59.8* Only played 7 full games. Player who regressed the most imo. Having 2 ints last year in 13 games to 10 this year in 8

Tannehill has grown by leaps and bounds this year. I'm psyched, because it's tough being a fan of this team and always waiting for people to fulfill their potential. I think the team can do great things next year even if Tannehill improves only a little bit over this next offseason, but Tannehill's record shows that expecting him to grow a little bit more would not be crazy.

There's one more cheap year of him, and then the team needs to get to work on an extension, because the one year cap hit for the option year doesn't make a lot of sense, IMO. A lot of the recent QB extensions have looked good, but have been team-friendly, so an extension isn't such a scary thing. For example, Dalton and Kaep got deals that are decent for both sides.

...and this doesn't tell the whole story. Lazor has been noticeably more successful in the redzone than Sherman despite what the stat percentages would lead us to believe. Lazor's 50% redzone TD rate includes 3 separate victory kneel-downs {Sherman had none}. Lazor's 50% includes 7 or 8 4th quarter RZ trips where Miami had comfortable leads and/or were content to run out the clock and settle for FGs {Sherman had none}. One of Lazor's RZ trips ended in a FG with time expiring in the 2nd quarter on 3rd & 2 {Sherman had none of these}. Lazor lost another RZ opportunity when Tannehill fumbled vs Buffalo {Sherman had none}.

Sherman had so few RZ trips that, when he played tough RZ defenses, his lack of success barely damaged his RZ TD percentage as much as it should have if he actually reached the RZ at the rate Lazor does. For instance, Sherman DIDN'T reach the RZ in his week 16 shutout by Buffalo [10th ranked RZ defense], so the Bills never had a chance to stuff his TD effort while they were busy wiping the field with his offense.
Against the other quality RZ opponents, Sherman's RZ TD rate was:

    • 0/2 vs #2 Carolina
    • 1/3 vs #3 Cincy
    • 1/3 vs #5 Balt.
    • 1/3 vs #7 NYJ
    • 1/1 vs #7 NYJ [20-7 loss]
    • 2/3 vs #9 Tampa [22-19 loss]
    • 0/0 vs #10 Buffalo [19-0 loss]
    • 3/4 vs #10 Buffalo [24-21 loss]

Against middle to bottom half RZ defenses, Sherman's RZ TD rate was:

    • 2/3 vs #15 New Orleans. **1 TD was meaningless 4th qtr during a 38-10 rout.
    • 2/4 vs #16 NE [27-17 loss]
    • 2/3 vs #16 NE
    • 1/3 vs #17 San Diego
    • 3/3 vs #18 Indy
    • 4/6 vs #20 Pitt
    • 1/2 vs #22 Cleveland
    • 3/3 vs #26 Atlanta

    Lazor's RZ TD rate
    • 1/2 vs #3 KC. The "unsuccessful" RZ trip was with time running out in 2nd quarter and needing to kick FG.
    • 1/2 vs #4 Buffalo
    • 2/6 vs #4 Buffalo. *Is actually 2/4. 1 RZ visit was a kneel down and 1 was a clock run out late 4th qtr. Additionally, 1 "unsuccessful" RZ trip was from Tannehill's fumble. 1 was hindered severely by Shelley Smith hold.
    • 1/4 vs #6 Jax [27-13 win]. *Is actually 1/2. 1 kneel down, 1 clock run out, and 1 "unsuccessful" RZ trip was in 4th qtr w/ comfy 24-6 lead.
    • 3/4 vs #8 GB
    • 1/4 vs #9 Detroit
    • 3/7 vs #15 SD [37-0 route]. When our offense scores 37 in a blowout, who cares about RZ stats. 1 "unsuccessful" RZ trip was w/ 27-0 lead.
    • 3/6 vs #17 NE [33-20 win]. *Is actually 3/5. 1 was late 4th qtr w/ 30-20 lead where we ran out clock and settled for FG.
    • 4/8 vs #23 Oakland [38-14 route]. *Is actually 4/6. 1 kneel down. 1 late 4th qtr clock run out.
    • 3/6 vs #28 Chicago [27-14 route]. All 3 "unsuccessful" RZ trips were 4th qtr w/ a big lead. 1 clock run out settling for FG. 1 TD nullified by a dumb Charles Clay hold. Lazor was 3/3 through first 3 quarters while building 27-7 lead.
    • 5/5 vs #29 Denver. Denver is much better than their #29 ranking as they allowed a handful of garbage time TDs during blowouts.

If we omit all those trivial, "unsuccessful" 4th qtr RZ visits while leading by 2+ scores, Lazor's RZ percentage jumps to something like 64% [27 of 42], and that doesn't include the end-of-half FG against KC or Tannehill's fumble. Only 1 of Lazor's games was genuinely below 50%- Detroit. Meanwhile, Sherman had 5 games genuinely below 50% and 1 game where he didn't have a chance to get there.

    Lazor's offense ranks #1 in RZ trips [4.9/game] and #3 in RZ touchdowns [2.5]. {tied with GB, Denver 2.6, NE 2.7}
Sherman's offense ranked #23 in RZ trips [2.9/game] and #19 in RZ touchdowns [1.6].

    Lazor's offense ranks #4 in yards per pt [13.3] behind Philly [13.2], NE [11.9], GB [11.5]. {Last 3 games have been 11.8}
    Sherman's offense ranked #22 in yards per pt [15.8]. {Last 3 games of 2013 were 25.1}

Show me a post where I'm a "hater." I want wins and success and so I'm critical of the Coaches, Offense and D. I said ideally, we probably needed to run on that first down play, Tannehill riffeled the ball with Landry only 4 yards past the LOS, and more importantly on that play, all the receivers needed to get more separation something we were plagued with last year I hope doesn't re emerge as a problem the rest of the season. It did seem like Mathews was more open for a bigger gain on that play.

Tannehill has taken a huge stride forward in that he is now no longer the kind of quarterback who occasionally loses games for his team all by himself. What he's progressed to now is the kind of quarterback whose play makes a team play at least at about the 8-8 range, and if it gets help from elsewhere on the team (defense, running game, turnover margin), it can be playoff-caliber or even highly competitive. If he can take the next step, then he can become the kind of QB who can win games by himself and make his team highly competitive, regardless of whether other parts of the team come to his aid. This is the Aaron Rodgers/Peyton Manning/Tom Brady/Philip Rivers class. Andrew Luck is on the cusp of joining that company right now, while Tannehill still has a bigger stride left to get there. Right now Tannehill has pretty firmly established himself in the Alex Smith/Andy Dalton/Joe Flacco category. There are quarterbacks who bounce back and forth between those categories -- Russell Wilson, Tony Romo, Ben Roethlisberger, Matthew Stafford, Matt Ryan, etc. -- and Tannehill may find himself in that group before long.

    Since London Tannehill is

    5-3
    237.1 yrds per game
    71.2% completion
    16 TD
    6 Int

I know that the year in stats are worthy but this is a "what you have done for me lately league" and the truth is what have these QB's done in their last 4 games...

    RT= 142 atts, 103 comp (72.5%), 963 yds (6.8 YPA), 9 TD's (6% of atts), 2 INT's and 106 QBR...

    A. Luck= 162 atts, 95 comp (58.6%), 1,310 yds (8.0 YPA), 10 TD's (6% of atts), 3 INT's, and a 97.5 QBR...

    RG III= 116 atts, 81 comp (69.8%), 831 yds (7.1 YPA), 2 TD's (2% of atts), 3 INTs, and a 85 QBR...

    R. Wilson= 106 atts, 64 comp (60.4%), 740 yds, 3 TD's (2% of atts), 2 INTs and a 83% QBR...

Another huge improvement is that we have only had 15 three-and-outs so far all season (2nd fewest in the NFL).

    Last year we had 46.

Thats what I felt before the draft, and what I still believe. Luck way up high at #1, then RT and Wilson down lower bunched together, then Griffin further down. Didn't think much of Foles at all at that point, and thought he was over drafted. Time will tell if 2013 was an aberation.

I think that Luck is the Dan Marino of the group, but if RT can be the Warren Moon or Boomer Esiason (to keep the analogy going) of the era, then we're in good shape.

That is good info. We should include other stats to be fair. Isn't he like 34th in yards per? Bottom 5 in 4th quarter play also. I am very happy with his progression. That being said, there are some things that pertain to our losses that do not include defensive collapse. It is good to have an average QB. That is better than what we have had for a while. It is good to say that QB play is not our problem.
