NFL-AM Discusses Pros Tannehill with some impressive performances Found a way to win in December Talent Cons Weak against the run (two bad games AFC too competitive Tannehill inconsistent Other Miller needs to be used more.
Before last week, I thought yes. After watching the Jets dominate the LOS for three quarters, my answer is now no.
By that standard, the Patriots are not a playoff caliber team either. One game, especially a division game, does not define a team, and by the way, we won that game!
I think the concern is the 6 yard pass plays going on. The Jets were starting to sit on the Dolphins routes. There is no doubt Tannehill is really great at throwing 5 yard pass plays. Something like 80% of his attemps are completed. Going from 11 to 20 yards it drops to 50%; that is not a good thing. http://www.orlandosentinel.com/spor...just-shortpassing-offense-20141203-story.html#
I'm just speaking in general. Its getting annoying that people keep acting like Tannehill isn't consistent. Our major problems have nothing to do with Tannehill right now. I mean if Wallace had caught the damn TD and Miller didn't cause the INT, the passing game would have carried a 100-ish QB rating for the Jets game.
If we get in, we're likely facing Bengals or colts. I think we can beat both of them, so yes I think we're a playoff caliber team.
Yea thill stats lie in the jets game. A friend of mine, a jets fan, said he thought tannehill played great. I've been saying to a lot of friends that tannehills not the problem, Wallace is. Wallace proved me right Monday.
I'd characterize Miami as a contender at this point, meaning they can get in. I could see them beating Cincinnati or Indianapolis, but I don't see them going further than that despite having played Devner, in Denver, well and already beating the Patriots to this point. I think both of those two teams are still ascending, especially running the football, where as Miami's leveled off quite a bit both in terms of injuries (Albert, Clay, Finnegan, etc.) and the defense has not looked very good back-to-back weeks against the run or rushing the passer. Again, this week being what it is, it's essentially a playoff elimination game. If Miami wins, I think labeling them as a "playoff caliber" team is fine, though I think that definition is more along the lines of being a consistent playoff team over a span of seasons, which is why I threw out "contender".
We might actually trash the Colts. Luck is damn good but they really can't run the ball or play any defense against good teams.
I'd take it a step further. The offensive line at this point is a mess and Miami's been forced to short passes for the most part. The receiving corps as a whole probably needs an overhaul after this season to better fit this offense philosophically/schematically.
Neither of the bolded is true. 1). We're not bad against the run, in general. Our starting DB is hurt and we're starting guys we signed off the street 6 days ago. We're schematically trying to compensate. If/when we get healthy in the secondary, our run D will improve. 2). Tannehill has been anything but inconsistent. He's a solid 200-250 yard passing, 2 TD, 65%+ completion QB.
Tannehill has completed at least 70% of his throws in the last 5 weeks, a feat that Brees, Brady, and Marino have never done. But you know, let's keep saying that Tannehill "Isn't consistent"... SMH
When we're healthy... yes, we are clearly a playoff caliber team. I don't think we have enough talent to overcome losing practically all our corners, our LT, our #1 TE, and our #1 RB. We need a couple of key additions and better depth to be considered among the legit playoff teams. But, I think we're very close.
I hope you're right. Our DL has not played well the last couple of weeks, and I'm not certain that is due to adjustments behind them. You think the LBs have been forced to play the pass more? I can't say I'd argue with you. I just hope you're correct, and we can get back to containing the run.
The Chargers vs Patriots game is awesome. If the Patriots win & we beat the Ravens we move into the 5th seed or if the Chargers beat the Pats we are one game behind & have the chance to take the division. There's hope in Miami
I think the answer is we'll find out every week for the next three weeks. We can only lose one game to have any chance. If we win three games, we'll see. If we lose two or more, than no way. If we run the table, there is a chance we'll have a bye.
It goes both ways though. If the ball Tannehill threw right into the defenders face on the out route was caught, if he hits Wallace on the stop and go, if he doesn't throw the ball 10 yards out of bounds when he breaks the pocket and Wallace is open deep, etc Tannehill still unfortunately fits the inconsistent label. He stares down receivers, throws into obvious coverage the defender has won, lacks pocket awareness and touch on underneath and intermediate routes and that contributes to his boneheaded plays that might not show up in the stat sheet each week but will eventually come back to bite you. On the other hand, he does the complete opposite of those things throughout the same game and the offense clicks and looks like a playoff team. Reminds me of Cam Newton so far in his career. So far he's put up some great stats in years 1-3 but the inconsistencies you've seen with him (bad accuracy, literally terrible accuracy and ball placement, no pocket awareness, no touch, bad fundamentals and footwork) are catching up this year. It's weird how Ryan and Cam have traded trajectories. Ryan looks like a star and Cam looks like a backup. This is a big month for Ryan. More good than bad and we're in the playoffs and dangerous. More bad than good and we miss again and people question his future.
I have been contemplating this all year. When were clicking we can beat any team in the year. We can match up with anyone, and we had a good run for a few weeks where it all clicked but ultimately I feel were not ready for a playoff push.. Injuries are hurting us, for most of the year we come out to slow. In the playoffs you cant do this and come back... I like the direction were heading but were not their yet IMHO...
i heard someone n tv say this....the dolphins have had the most difficult schedule leading up until this point, with the easiest moving forward.
Just FYI if you're going by that. Even if Miami beats Baltimore this weekend, if both Pittsburgh and Kansas City win, Miami would NOT be in the playoffs if they started Monday. The tie-breakers don't go Miami's way any longer in that scenario, regardless of San Diego winning or losing due to KC's tie-break over them head-to-head. So, even at 8-5, Miami would be out of the playoffs, if they started Monday, if things break that way. In short, root for Cincinnati (Pittsburgh twice, Cleveland) the rest of the year and whoever plays Kansas City the rest of the way. Throw in San Diego this weekend as well as it keeps Miami's hopes for the AFCE title alive.
Labor blames Tanny for that INT, by the way. Tanny is consistently bad in the 4th Quarter too Consistency isn't just game to game. It's quarter to quarter as well. By quarter: 1q - 111 qbr 2q - 84.4 3q - 106.4 4q - 75.1
And we showed we are capable of beating the Broncos, we have already beaten the crap out of the Patriots, and have beaten the crap out of the Chargers who are likely to be in the playoffs as well. The Ravens game will be very telling as well, but I believe there is no point for further discussion on this matter, we are a playoff caliber team, case closed.
I would not be upset if Wallace was benched for Bmore. He's shown great effort at times, but other times just head scratchingly lazy almost when it comes to going after a ball. I realize his speed helps out the rest of the WR's but come on, he's gotta step the eff up!
Someone go tell the chiefs they aren't "playoff caliber", since they lost to the raiders. So tired of this nonsense.
and I constantly argue with folks about the emotional part of this game and its affect on results, if a team is hyped to play and the other team isn't, don't matter the records.
It takes 16 games to make the playoffs though... After 12 games the Falcons are in a playoff spot, but I don't think they are playoff caliber or will be holding down a spot in 4 weeks time. It comes down to winning a big game down the stretch against Baltimore or the Pats. If they can earn a win, I think they are playoff caliber.
Bench Wallace? With Hartline already banged up and Clay questonable, no way. If anything he still commands respect and keeps the opposition's best cover corner occupied.
Here's a run down on our OL player rating so far this year from PFF: Satele- Overall -5.6, pass -5.9. run +2.1. Gave up 2 sacks, 7 hits, and 7 hurries. James- Overall -7.9, pass -5.3, run -3.1. Gave up 2- 9- 20. Albert- Overall +17.5, pass +12.6, run +6.3. Gave up 3- 1- 5. Dallas- Overall -27.9, pass -18.0, n- -11.0. Gave up 2- 5- 23. Colledge- Overall -13.5, pass -3.6, run -11.3. Gave up 5- 2- 6. Pouncey Overall -11.0, pass -9.6, run -1.9. Gave up 3- 0- 18. Shelly- Overall -7.4, pass -4.1, run -4.1. Gave up 2- 3- 5. (only 314 snaps) Fox- Overall -2.3, pass-2.5, run +0.7. Gave up 0- 1- 1. (57 snaps) Garner- Overall -0,7, pass +0.6, run -1,4. Gave up 0- 0- 0. Combined the OL has given up 19 sacks, 28 hits, 85 hurries, a combined 132 QB pressures over 12 games. Last year, it was 41 sacks, 39 hits, 114 hurries, a combined 194 QB pressures. This year, we're starting two guys, in Satele and Colledge no other tea wanted for obvious reasons, lost Albert, and now have James, Pouncey, and Dallas playing out of position. If not for Lazor and Tannehill with all the quick, short passes to negate opponents pass rush, we may have been about the same level of production as last season. Instead we have the most prolific offense we've had in decades behind a bad line. In this playoff run, EVERYONE is going to have to step up, not just the QB.
Playoff caliber as in competing for SB? No, we are not there yet. We need an improved QB, Oline, receivers, and playcalling.
I'm not sure how having injured corners affects the running defense, I could certainly see how it would affect the running game.
