I was reading some of the dolphins media guides and thought to myself ,hey would these guys be good enough to help this particular team at least enough to hide our weakness.

on offense I would choose these guys n their prime.

OT RICHMOND WEBB , OG KEITH SIMS , FB KEITH BYARS , AND WR /TE/ QB JIM JENSEN (the crash would help Tannehill a good deal .

on defense I would bet you a case of beer that if we had ZACH THOMAS AND DERRCK RODGERS WE WN THE DENVER GAME .

Of course I think Louis Oliver ( favorite defensive player of all time) and Curtis Johnson would be great enough on defense to get us at least two wins.

I know , its lame but just for the hell of it I wanted to throw out some names to see if these guys would have made a bg enough of a impact or not.

We desperately need a franchise QB who can throw accurately beyond 20 yards.

Branden Albert. Tannehill with the light coming on could be doing more with better protection, IMO.

    I loved that old O-line.

I also think a leader on the second level of the defense would help tremendously.

Linebackers. Jenkins looks pretty good, but that's about it. The rest have too many problems with one yhing or another. Move DJ to OLB and find someone for the middle.

Smart, instinctive, gym rat LB in the mold of ZT
Power RB - Moreno would fill this need but he's injured too much.

That's about it. I would expect Hickey to go LB early this year unless we have to fill holes from departing FA (pouncey / Odrick)

    - 2 offensive guards
    - 1 TE who defenses have to respect every play
    - 1 MLB who can play all 3 downs

By this statement I'll assume you just don't even watch the games. Anyone with eyes can see that a highschool player with decent hands would have been able to reel in a nice chunk of the deeper passes tannehill has thrown.

A Reliable stud at MLB. A guy who we can count on to get the defense into the right call and position as well as making tackles and the occasional big play.

A true #1 WR (6-3 220 type) who can make plays and score touchdowns, but who isn't a diva or nutjob.

Derrick Rodgers? above average at best.

LB's: John Offerdahl, Zach THomas and Bryan COx (in that order) - caveat - the briefly healthy Offerdahl
Safeties: Oliver, Jones and Marion (in that order)
CBs: Surtain, Grimes, Vincent, Madison (in that order)

I was surprised by Derrick Rodgers too.

And Madison is better than Grimes. Troy Vincent nearly as good as Surtain

People have forgotten just how nasty Madison was inknew his prime. He's a our all-time best corner, IMO.

Troy Vincent had a much better career post Miami, imo.

Madison was great in his prime, but IMO, it was short-lived. He was still good afterwards, but I'll take Grimes overall.

I want either a tall WR or a really athletic, tall TE. Someone who aggressively goes for the ball.

2002 Ricky is a great answer. He could make up for that deep ball problem/non-problem (depending on where you stand there) by taking a screen pass or two 80 yards and by breaking a few runs for 60 plus.

I can't even imagine the havoc Marino would unleash on the league today with the way the passing game is favored by the refs.

He just said the other day on TV that he'd throw for over 6000 yards in today's game. I don't doubt him one bit. Seriously.

I don't doubt him either. Tack on maybe 70 TD's.

People who didn't see it may call this an exaggeration, but he did break the existing touchdowns record by 25% at the time.

Pretty much this. I also second the two guards notion and there are still a lot of questions in the defensive backfield outside of Grimes and Jones. Grimes is getting long in the tooth and our two young guys haven't really stepped up so far. How long will Delmas be around? Need a complementary running back too, in my opinion.

I don't think he was either of those things.. I just don't know if he would have jived with Philbin or been a patient soldier with the development of Tannehill. And the whole domestic abuse thing.

Definitely a running back. I think Miller has grown a lot this year, but he needs help. I wanted Hyde this past draft, but that might just be the Buckeye in me.

Any big play wide receiver is going to be disliked here. I'm not knocking the QB with this statement. I can't think of a time after Marino when the best WR (or the one capable of the biggest plays) on the team wasn't also the most polarizing player on the team outside of the QB. As a fanbase, I guess we need a team full of Ed McCaffreys or nothing.

I know you are just playing around with this, but you would also have to include other teams greatest players. I think we would still win against Denver if that was the case. How about the 72' Dolphins with Dan Marino, that's just not fair. lol

I am very optimistic about the new Dolphins offense being able to plug in college beasts to play in the spread, effectively from the start.
