Not sure why we'd want a coach whose teams have significantly regressed.

Sure, his GMs have been bad, ok but......

Many of the same people saying he's had bad GMs also said Ireland was a bad GM, so why doesn't Philbin get the excuse Ryan is being given?

I can't speak for everyone, but I did say that about Philbin. That said, we're 7-5. We should be 9-3. Maybe better. Should never have lost to the Bills. And I directly put that on Philbin. Not to mention the two game collapse in 2013. We were talented enough to beat the NYJ and Buf. And yet, we were outscored 40-7 IIRC.

Ryan w/talented teams has gone to two AFC championships games. He was close to getting to the SB with Mark Sanchez. Went 8-8 with Geno Smith. That's nothing short of impressive.

In addition, Philbin doesn't scheme or system of any kind. He's a CEO coach. I don't see the value of a CEO coach who can't make the playoffs and makes the amount of errors he makes. I'd rather have a HC who can scheme.

I cannot imagine an alpha like Rex working under a beta like Philbin. I'd be surprised if Rex accepted a DC position underneath a guy softer than him mentally.

If Rex arrives in SoBe it'll be as a head honcho or not at all. And because of that, it's not likely.

    Rex as DC? Absolutely.

    Rex as HC? No way.

Aren't you the guy who has been advocating blowing up the entire defence? Now it's top 5 to suit your argument.

Lol. Philbin would have a coronary by seasons end with Rex as DCoord.

Ross isn't likely to replace Philbin even if we miss the playoffs, unless a "name" coach becomes available. Rexie is not a "name" coach.

Unless Ross is willing to pay Ryan over four million dollars a year to be the DC, which I doubt. I don't see Ryan being a coach anywhere next season.

I believe Ryan will take a job in television and it is projected he will probably earn nearly 4 million dollars in a television job.
I think he will be entertaining in that job and he will realize that it's a lot more fun talking about football than it is having to spend hundreds of hours each week preparing his team to play a game.

I would love to see Ryan as the Dolphins DC next year, but it won't surprise me if Ryan takes a television job and never coaches another game after this year.

Hey, Tony Sparano went 11-5 and won the AFC east his first year as HC. Sure his teams declined after that but what do you expect he was stuck with a poor GM in Ireland and a bad QB in Henne. Given the right personnel he is bound to succeed.

See how silly that sounds. That's exactly what Jets fans see when the read this thread.

Because the Dolphins never mortgaged their future in order to dupe their fans into buying PSLs.

I do think Rex Ryan was a victim of a really bad front office, I can't see how anyone would have succeeded with Geno Smith as their Qb and Vick cashing checks without preparing for games as the backup, Rex did get screwed in that regard without a doubt. The Jest have never gotten any offensive weapons and their overall talent is the about as bad as any team in the NFL. Rex also requires good CB play for his system and he has none so he was basically set up to be fired, I have no doubt it was intentional.

That said, I don't think he's a good fit as the HC here if things go south. I do think that with him as HC/DC and Lazor as OC we actually could be a really good team but I just don't see that scenario happening. The poster that brought up him hiring Sparano as the OC hit the nail on the head.....no way. IF Rex has really learned from his mistakes and we kept Lazor this could actually work but honestly it seems like a made up scenario from someone spit balling ideas and trying to get attention for a website.

One think I really like about Rex is that his teams never quit. His team is not good, but it is because they do not have good players. It isn't because he is a bad coach. He's somewhat of a loose cannon, but not nearly as bad as what his dad was.

Rex's non-quitting teams and strong defenses were good reasons for the Jets to retain. However, no longer think he is a good coach due to the following:

    1. Player Development - his top picks perform great but the team depth has decline as very few mid, late, and udfa contributing.
    2. 2 FU offensive games - in addition to the Dolphins game, the Jet's had another lopsided play calling game against the Giants where they pass on almost every play. At that time, Rex explained he didn't understand his offense.

IMO, these are signs that Rex does not do a good job with managing a coaching staff nor has a handle on the roster outside his key starters.

Mangini was better at the above and worked with the same front office. Rex inherited a team with a strong roster and led them deep into the playoffs, but never had regular season dominance that Mangini had until Farve was injured. If Ross were to hire an ex-Jet coach, he would be more impressed with Mangini's skill and personality than Rex's.

Philbin also hasn't made the playoffs and if we don't this year, the "my guy" thing wears thin....Ireland was "Ross's Guy" too, and he is gone.

I REALLY hope this happens. I think rex is the guy who would keep Lazor in place - but is a great motivator and players coach. Defense will be much better and this team won't give up and quit when it counts ALL THE TIME LIKE CLOCKWORK like Philbin coached teams do. This season is over. Another aganoizing .500 year. I've had enough. Bring on some Fire, bring on Rex!

I'm on board. Totally done with Philbin. When it matters the most his teams just always look flat...maybe uninspired is a better word.

Whoever continually makes the decision to play Dallas Thomas should be black-balled from the NFL.
