I don't think it's a matter of Billy Turner being bad. Daryn Colledge has been abysmal all year, but plays (Philbin connection). Smith has been decent (Benton connection). Dallas Thomas playing over anyone is just wrong.
Dallas Thomas isn't a uniquely bad player. There are guys in the league who will give you game plan ruining play in the league. It's just their coaches frequently don't start them unless they've got no better options and work hard to make sure they're schemed around as best as possible. I don't think either of those things are happening.
No, as much as I want to, I'm not. Unfortunately...or fortunately, I'm confused myself, I had to be at a fundraiser for work this morning so I wasn't able to watch most of the game. I finally got to watching right when they overturned the fumble and Baltimore took the 21-13 lead. What I did see though just confirmed what I already thought to be true: Joe Philbin is not the right coach for this team and the O-line is still *that bad* to where I doubt they'd have made any serious noise in the playoffs. I could have seen them winning against the Bengals, but that's about it. Maybe they'd have given Indy a game. Maybe. But they're done. At this point, I don't think I can stomach watching what I missed already knowing the outcome. That said, I'll do reviews for the Patriots and Jets games. I know I won't be able to see the Vikings game as we're celebrating my great-grandmother's 96th birthday that day.
Dallas Thomas has a clothing line that only makes cargo pants so that he can finally be involved in creating a pocket.
Dallas Thomas has won every sack race he's been involved in. Dallas Thomas doesn't eat breakfast. He just can't make pancakes.
As bad as he is, do we have a better option? I think people assume that we have better options at G and RT on this roster although I'm not convinced there is.
With everything on the line, how can this team put Thomas out there. Even when he's getting support, he's still collapsing the pocket. What I don't understand is a collapsed pocket with 3 and 4 rushers, critical drops, bad penalties and an abandoned running game yet some morons still want to blame the QB. I don't get it.
That had to be one of worst (if not the worst) attempt at pass protection I've ever seen. Ever. Dallas Thomas was a turnstile today.
Guys, We should have known he would be fat, worthless and better off if he never existed...his name is Dallas, after all.
Dallas Thomas became a problem when the team went down 21-13, and they abandoned the running game. At that point Elvis Dumervil pinned his ears back and abused him. The running game shouldn't have been abandoned at that point, partly because the team had Dallas Thomas at right tackle and needed to dissuade the likes of Dumervil from thinking he could defend the pass exclusively.
The QB is part of the issue because he's unable to surmount those circumstances like the great ones do. And at this point in the evolution of the league, having a great QB is almost a necessity, unless you've attained the unlikely scenario of having a far superior surrounding cast.
Yes. Because you can't do any worse. When someone is that bad, you put the water boy in and see what he can do. Or Philbin himself. Of course you replace a guy like that. If he were pulling that disappearing act on New England - he was missing more team meetings on the field this day than Jonas Gray ever did in his life (or the Cowboys - back in the 'olden days' for some of you - when JJ was there), Mr. Thomas would have been in street clothes and on the waiver wire before the game was over. Even if they had to go with a TE at LT. Or the #3 QB.
Oh, and, yeah, don't let it get on your nerves too badly but it really has to be said: Thank you once more, Jeff Ireland, the gift that keeps on giving. Genius knows no bounds.
You aren't going to fill 4 holes in an O-line in just one off-season. We made huge strides with acquiring Albert and James this year. Thomas was supposed to be on the bench and was never supposed to see any action as a Tackle. Give it a few months and he'll most likely be gone. He stunk today for sure. No reason to make a federal case. He's nobodies long-term answer, least of all ours.
The saddest thing is that he has improved this year.......I mean think about that. Why do I see us going Oline in the first round again? sigh.............
I am well aware that Thomas should be nowhere near the field. Losing Albert was a killer and moving James to LT made an opening on the right side. Did I expect ALOT out of Dallas Thomas? NO...did I have high expectations of his play? NO. Did I at least expect him to be serviceable? Not get totally run over, around and through? Surprisingly YES. I thought he was at least capable of standing still and at least impeding the oncoming rush. Today was ABYSMAL. He really could have got someone injured. That is no joke
Come on, Great QB's do not need protection. Tannehill has to find a way to find the open receiver, jump out of the way of two unblocked lineman, and challenge the defense down the field....all in under 2 secs. Should be easy to find one in the draft. Poor Dallas Thomas, only getting paid to do a job he has no way of doing. What could be the reaction of Philbin, Lazor and Thomas when the team watches that game film. All three should be equally mortified.
I agree with everything here except the first sentence. Dallas Thomas is uniquely bad in the same way Jonathin Martin was uniquely bad. These guys ruin gameplans each and every week. Both are so uniquely bad, I'm surprised each is still in the league. I project both will be out by 2016 and looking for employment elsewhere besides the NFL. But yea, the coaching staff did an exceptionally bad job of covering Thomas up today. It was ridiculous how time after time he was 1v1 no matter the results
They hate Jonathan Martin here in the Bay Area. I just laugh and tell everyone I told you so..then I remember we have Dallas thomas. God how did we ever have those 2 guys on our roster at the same time?
It said something along the line of "Dallas Thomas is currently the worst starting lineman in football, and is trying to collect the first block of his career" LOL
Except this really isn't about Dallas Thomas. It's about coaching staff and front office failure to find a way to mitigate the damage.
