That's not fair to say. Do we know for sure Belichick wanted to run a wide open offense that year, but couldn't, because of Brady? Brady has done everything BB has asked of him. Whatever offense they put in front of Brady, he's executed. Protect the ball, short routes, strong defense and run game? Done. Wide open with welker and Randy? Done. Two tight ends shrink the field again? Done. Single great TE, not much else? Done.

Contrast that to Lazor scaling his desired offense down, and shrinking the field for Tannehill. Again, not saying Tanny AND the WRs can't improve, but for now, they had to scale it back.

I just want to mention that it's possible that Eli didn't "tag along," and that he actually led 2 different fourth quarter comeback wins in the Super Bowl, with both drives being last minute touchdown drives. There is another, far more famous quarterback who is known for his unquestionable clutchness who has not done that.

I still consider him a tag a long. He wasn't the reason they made it to the playoffs. He had a 73.9 QBR during the regular season. They limped into the offseason and then he got hot, yes. But they didn't make it to the playoffs off his back.

This is true. In his third year here he was winning superbowls. He isn't doing that now.

If we're going by this thread's definition of "tag along," one could argue...

    I'll stop here.

He did it twice, though. IMO, that's worth something.

Of course it is fair to say. Brady is a better QB now than he was in his third season. And no one was pointing to Brady as one of the top 5 all time great QBs in his 3rd season, they can do that now because of his accumulated body of work.

And, again, Brady didn't make the offenses work ON HIS OWN. He had receivers making plays, he had tight ends making plays, he had an offensive line mauling people for him. It's ignorant to act like Brady did all this on his own. Let's not talk about his defense...

Speaking of Brady looking awesome, has there ever been a team in history that gets more late flags after unsuccessful plays? If it's a penalty, why not throw the flag when it occurs, and not when the need for it arises?

Yeah but it was the defense that kept them in the game for that long. Especially that year when the Pats entered the Super Bowl 18-0 with Randy Moss. They were crushing people. Without that defense holding that historical offense to 14 or 17 points they would have been blown out. That defense gave Brady pressure all game long. I give that defense more credit than Manning. Giants offense struggled pretty much the whole game. Manning did just enough for his team to win. He threw one TD pass. The defense destroyed that high power Pats offense.

Brady has had some of the best offensive linemen. That's for sure.

This is what kills me the most. We keep making reasons (some might call excuses) for our QBs since Marino, while scrubs like Eli and Flacco win Super Bowls. Neither were playing out of their minds at any time in their career except getting hot in the playoffs.

I give that Giants defense credit, as well. I'm just generally curious as to why Brady immediately achieved GOAT status by leading a defensive team to a few late field goal drives in Super Bowls when Eli's teams needed touchdowns and got touchdowns and he's a "tag along." I'm not saying Eli is the GOAT, but I am saying that there are different standards at work.

It's only true that both of them had great TEAMS they were playing with, and defenses that could be counted on. If Tannehill had the same stuff those guys had, we'd be 11-2 right now, and none of you guys are complaining. However, we don't have what those guys had, and yet you guys all turn and point at Tannehill. LOL. It's comical.

Agreed. Even when they didn't have great playmakers, he had an amazing OL that kept him free of duress. We saw what happens to a great QB when his best target isn't 100%, his playmakers aren't making plays and when he is getting hit against us in week 1.

He had a 69.7 QB rating and all the talking heads were starting to question whether he was on the decline. Funny how when a HOF, probowl QB doesn't have people around him doing their jobs that he becomes very pedestrian.
