We can scratch LaRoche off the list.

I'd like to see us get on the Morse Horse next.

Getting Jeter on board as a minority owner, or really in any capacity, would be one of the smartest (if not the smartest) things Loria has ever done as an owner. What do you do if you are one of the most despised owners in professional sports, and want to fix your image? Partner up with the most popular player your sport has had over the past 20 years. This would be incredibly savvy if Loria can pull it off.

Why did we give up Heaney? Why?

Better question is why give up Heaney for Dee freaking Gordon. Also another question is why they went after Haren, who isn't any good anymore.

It certainly doesn't look good, but I don't think it's as bad as everyone seems to think. Gordon is a solid 2B, and apparently the Marlins weren't that high on Heaney. Reports around the winter meetings are that he's a polarizing prospect. The Marlins also get Gordon's deal paid for and $10M either towards Haren's deal, or straight up cash if he retires, which they would then use on another SP.

The Marlins gave up a bunch of prospects here, but they could easily end up winning this trade in the end.

The best thing that can come out of this trade is Haren retiring and the Marlins getting the 10 million in cash.

    Dee Gordon in April: .333/.356/.464/.820

    Dee Gordon after April: .279/.318/.360/.678

He is fast though and will steal bases when he gets on base.

If Andrew Heaney doesn't vastly improve from his stint last year and Gordon ends up as the long term answer at 2B (both very realistic), this trade will be far from terrible. It's funny how overvalued prospects are in today's baseball. Most of them don't pan out. Remember how the Marlins refused to trade guys like Logan Morrison, Jeremy Hermida, and Chris Volstad when they were supposed elite prospects? How did that work out? What about when the Marlins traded Miguel Cabrera for a package of prospects that most people felt was great led by Andrew Miller and Cameron Maybin? Years later it's now one of the worst deals in baseball history.

I get that the perception is that they Marlins prospects had more value in this deal, but obviously they really didn't. The Marlins were shopping Heaney. That wasn't a secret. You think they took an offer that was worse than others they had on the table? Would I have loved to see them get more from a package like that? Of course. Am I going to freak out because the Marlins finally did the opposite of what they've always been criticized for doing and traded prospects for players that will help them now? No, I'm not.

Marlins just traded for Mat Latos.

    No terms disclosed yet.

    Nice piece.

A top 4 of Fernandez, alvarez, Latos and Cosart is pretty good once Jose gets back

That sounds like a pretty great trade if that's all they gave back. And on top of it, makes the Mia-Tor deal from a few years ago look even better as DeSclafini came to the Marlins in that deal.

Now they just need another power bat at 1B and this could be a pretty good team. They still have Eovaldi to move.

If he's healthy, he's much much better than solid. That's a pretty good deal.

But you traded your TOP prospect for an overrated piece. Gordon isn't not very good.

Yes, but that top prospect may never amount to anything, and if the Marlins could have gotten more for him, don't you think they would have taken that deal? It certainly looks like an overpay, but it could very easily end up being a good deal in the end.

I'll also be going to that.

Last year the average ticket price for the ASG was ~$1000. I imagine by 2017 it'll be a little bit higher than that.
